“Twyfelfontein, Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain”. (“Orgelpfeifen, Verbrannter Berg, Zweifelhafte Quelle”).

Namibia Travel Guide - Experience Marvelous Namibia
Namibia Travel Guide - Experience Marvelous Namibia
Namibia is in Southern Africa, bordering South Africa, Botswana, Angola, Zambia and the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia boasts remarkable natural attractions such as the Namib desert, the Fish River Canyon Park, Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert. Its people speak nine different languages, including some of the Khoisan languages which include the 'clicks' that present an enigma to most native English-speakers. Namibia produces some of the world's highest quality diamonds.
Few countries in Africa can match Namibia's sheer natural beauty. The country's name derives from its (and the world's) oldest desert, the Namib, and there are few more stirring desert realms on the planet, from the sand sea and perfect dead-tree valleys at Sossusvlei to the otherworldliness of sand dunes plunging down to the sea at Sandwich Harbour and the Skeleton Coast. Inland, running through the heart of the country, a spine of mountains creates glorious scenery – the Naukluft Mountains, the Brandberg, Spitzkoppe, Damaraland and the jaw-dropping Fish River Canyon. With rivers and wetlands in the Caprivi Strip and the endless gold-grass plains of the Kalahari, it's difficult to think of an iconic African landscape that Namibia doesn't possess.
Make no mistake: Namibia is one of Southern Africa's best places to watch wildlife, at least in the country's north. Etosha National Park belongs in the elite wildlife-watching destinations – big cats, elephants, black rhinos and plains game in abundance. Two other areas are emerging as complements to Etosha. Damaraland is a wonderful place to see desert-adapted elephants and lions, and also happens to host Africa's largest population of free-ranging rhinos – rhino tracking is a real highlight here. Over in the Caprivi Strip, the wildlife is returning, with Bwabwata and Nkasa Rupara becoming wonderfully rich parks to explore. This being Namibia, there are private reserves (Okonjima and Erindi premier among them) as well as game farms that serve as havens for rescued wildlife.

Waterberg Plateau Park -- Another good place to watch wildlife.
Sossusvlei -- The most popular entry point for people wanting to visit the Namib desert.
Skeleton Coast -- The northern coastal part of the Namib desert, named for the dozens of ships that were beached in the thick fog that is frequent where the desert meets the Atlantic.
Spitzkoppe -- the Matterhorn of Namibia.
Fish River Canyon Park--The second largest canyon in the world.
Opuwo-- capital of Kunene Region and an ideal starting point for stocking up before venturing further into Kaokoland and the rest of NW Kunene.

Namibia - Damaraland

In the north-west Namibia is one of Damaraland, in whose center stands the Brandberg Massif. My journey continues past the former mining town of Uis, which once had the largest tin mine, we visit a Herero dealer and visit the Burnt Mountain, which evolved from cooled lava. The organ pipes are a 100 million year old basalt rock. In Twyfelfontein there are up to 6,000 year old rock paintings. UNESCO has declared the Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site. At the end of my way through the savannah, we come to the Petrified Forest. The logs are approximately 300 million years old. Africa always surprised.

We are on the way to the northwest of Namibia. First, there are a few pictures of iGowarti Lodge in Khorixas. From here it's not far to the natural beauty of the Damaraland, the Organ Pipes, the Burnt Mountain and Twyfelfontein. These sights but we've left behind us. The road now leads to the north of Kamanjab, west of the Etosha National Park, past all the way up to Opuwo in the Kunene Province.
The road to the north is partly difficult, because often it is only on dirt roads that are smooth but overall, as one would imagine at first. Up here you will find a bit more Africa. Disorganized lively, colorful and a little bit. On the highway donkeys are driven, although farms must be properly fenced to change every once in beef critters cross the street and go back to their farm. Of course we put on our 350 km trip and a break in a beautiful open-air restaurant, as I have seen so often in Namibia. Was able to catch a bit of life I, where it is difficult to film a normal life, because when European tourists come to normalcy comes to a halt. The Namibians give their guests a lot of attention. Is the unpleasant but almost never.
On our trip we were lucky enough to have seen a giraffe in the wild. Majestically she eyed our bus. At one point we see water but no elephants, but the impact of the power of the pachyderms to impress us. Finally we come to Opuwo, the only town in Kaokoland. 4,000 inhabitants and for that very lively. Our lodge is a whole lot about the city with a beautiful view. Only one place is not here. A shortcoming of many lodges: You are always a bit away from the places, so you have little opportunity to delve into the normal life of people in the region.
The music is by Hiddeminside.
