Railroads of Australia: Burra Station 2017
A short visit at the railway station of Burra, South Australia, filmed on a hot day in january 2017 with my Lumix TZ81.
It was a busy station, being on the main line to Broken Hill from 1888, and on the route to Perth from 1917 to 1937. An arched roof over two tracks and the platform, providing shelter for passengers from 1870, was demolished in 1935, after which the refreshment room closed in 1936. The last passenger train ran in December 1986 and the station was closed in 1988. The last freight train ran on the line in 1999.
2014 after a renovation it's a bed & breakfast hotel. You're welcome!

Burra Town
Staying in the Clare Valley and this is a visit to the town of Burra. In this video we take a look at the Bon Accord Mine and the museum as well as some of the historic sites in Burra. If you have watched the video on Mintaro and the one on the Monster Mine this will complete the circle totally.
Burra is an easy 30min drive from Clare and well worth the visit if you are in the valley area. The Burra Heritage Passport system of a key and guide book enables visitors to explore and discover sites of historical significance at their leisure. We only did some of the sites but it is worthwhile if you are staying a few days to do the tour. Available seven days a week from the Burra and Goyder Visitor Centre.
Best watched in HD.
As always just having a bit of fun and sharing the sites of South Australia that we have visited.
Take care and stay safe.

Abandoned Burra Railway Station Part 1 , Rail yards , Turntable , Silos
This video tours the burra station and rail yards in the town of burra , Soith Australia. Burra once had a railway that was used often as it was a main railway link to Peterborough from Roseworthy. However in the late 1980s the line between burra and Peterborough was closed and ripped up in 1992. The last parts of the line can be found at burra , roughly 163 kilometres from Adelaide. The last steam train to burra was held in 1992 with 621 and another diesel locomotive . Videos of that are up on YT. The last train to burra was in 2004 and the last train to use the line was in 2007. The station has been turned into a Bed and Breakfast although it seemed like no one was there when I went . There’s also a train carriage on the platform . Opposite the main platform is a goods platform . There’s a picture of me sting on it in the video . The rail yards also have a turntable and some large silos.

Here we see a passive crossing just outside the station . The crossing has old crossbucks which have been either bent or had parts removed plu some very faded stop signs and rusty poles . There are also some other signs around like a sign saying End of main line , plus KM markers and and speed sign . There is also a semaphore signal nearly which has had parts removed but this has a wooden relay case with Mck&h relays . There is also a points junction next to it . At the end of the line on the other side of the station there is a Searchlight signal. It has a Westinghouse base and a Mck&h searchlight . It also has a KM marker on it.
