Celebrating Christmas at Kinkuna Burrum Coast. This gorgeous spot is just south of Bundaberg along the coast. Beautiful beach and camping on the dunes which you can't beat.
These camp sites can be booked through the npsr website There are no facilities onsite so be prepared to be self sufficient. Bring all your supplies including water and gas. You are allowed to light fires assuming there is no fire ban at the time. Bring your own firewood though as it is illegal to get wood from the park.
We turned right into Foleys Road from highway 3, left into Goodwood Road, right into Coonarr Road then right into Palm Beach Road where we aired down our tires as soon as we got to the entrance of the park. You won't hit soft sand until you get closer to the dunes but the roads do flood during rain so make sure to check weather and road conditions.
There are numerous tracks that crisscross just off the dunes and they are soft sand so make sure to air down your tires, bring a shovel and recovery gear. Softroaders can tackle the tracks but you will get bogged if your vehicle has low clearance and gets hung up on the sand. The sand on the beach is coarse and depending on the conditions, can get very boggy. There is also a sand mine in the area which is apparently great but we decided to leave that for next time after we install a lift kit on the Xtrail.
We had a grand time here even though we got stormed in. We decided to leave a day early especially that there were heaps of campers coming in after Christmas and they were starting to dig up the tracks.
