Places to see in ( Burry Port - UK )
Burry Port is a small town five miles outside the larger centre of Llanelli in Carmarthenshire, Wales, lying on the Loughor estuary. The town's population was 4,209 in the 2001 census and 4,240 in 2012. The town is home to a harbour and is where Amelia Earhart landed as the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. The Pembrey Burrows sand dune and wetland system, home to a country park and the Cefn Sidan sands, lie nearby. The town also has a proud musical heritage and is also home to Burry Port Opera, Male Choir and Burry Port Town Band
Burry Port lies 5 miles west of Llanelli. It sits at the mouth of the Loughor estuary, looking south towards the picturesque Gower peninsula. West of the town's shoreline is Pembrey Burrows, a large area of burrow and marshland which historically occupied many square miles of land, much of which has later been reclaimed. To the north of the town is the hill Mynydd Pembrey, or Pembrey Mountain. Further north lie the Gwendraeth Valleys. The Gwendraeth Fawr runs north easterly from Kidwelly for about twelve miles (19 km). The land around the valley itself contains large amounts of coal as well as limestone. The Gwendraeth Fawr flows the length of the valley and joins its sister river the Gwendraeth Fach west of Kidwelly before flowing into Carmarthen Bay.
People made a living in Burry Port from farming and fishing before the industrial revolution brought the railways and collieries to the area, As Pembrey Burrows was a hazard to shipping, local people would also salvage what they could from boats wrecked in storms while navigating the Bristol Channel. Pembrey sands have proved the final resting place of many ships, some by mishap, others it is said lured to their doom deliberately to provide plunder for the wreckers known as Gwyr-y-Bwelli Bach or The Men of Little Hatchets. They were named after the locally made tool, a hatchet incorporating a claw for ripping open cargo and equally useful for dispatching unwanted witnesses to the wreckers' activities .
With the closure of all the mines at Cwm Mawr the railways up the valley were lifted. The harbour is now a marina for small leisure craft. Pembrey and Burry Port railway station still exists and is served by regular services east via Swansea and Cardiff to London and west into Pembrokeshire. Burry Port boasts a small supermarket, specialist shops, several hairdressers, a beauty and skincare salon, an array of pubs and fast food outlets, a library and a large secondary school. Burry Port lies on the Millennium Coastal Path from Bynea near Llanelli to Pembrey Burrows. The town is also home to a lifeboat station which is situated in Burry Port Harbour.

Speed Boat trip to Whitford Lighthouse from Burry Port Harbour.
A thrilling speedboat ride from Burry Port Harbour in Carmarthenshire, out to the derelict, cast iron, Grade2 listed lighthouse in the Burry Estuary. It's very difficult to get to, and rare to see it up close. I was privileged to have the opportunity to go out to see it and capture it on video.
Pembrey & Burry Port's entry for Wales in Bloom 2016
Once again the Town has pulled together and provided some stunning displays for this year's Wales in Bloom Competition. This includes the outstanding replica of the Town's iconic Harbour Lighthouse, amazing floral displays throughout the area, a school entry by Pembrey Primary School, and a beautiful display by the Globe B&B.
The Assessor this year was Mr Jim Goodwin, and we look forward to finding out the results in September.
A big thank you to all the hard working and dedicated teams of people who have put in a tremendous effort for this year's entry.
Exploring Whitefords lighthouse (uk last standing iron cast lighthouse)
so today guys i decided to vist this amazing looking lighthouse that ive wanted to see for a few weeks i didnt have much like on my side but the weather held up enough for me to get some pictures here is the history of the lighthouse
instagram
Whiteford Sands and Whiteford Point Lighthouse is located on the north-western tip of Gower. This is a vast two mile expanse of beach leading out along the edge of the Loughor Estuary. This walk is varied and includes the sand dunes of Whiteford Burrows, that are backed by pine trees. This area is a nature reserve owned by the National Trust.
The decommissioned cast iron lighthouse found at the furthest northern tip of the beach is believed to be the last remaining cast iron lighthouse found in British Isles. The Llanelli Harbour and Burry Navigation Commissioners constructed the lighthouse in 1865 to mark the south side of the channel to the port of Llanelli; it replaced an earlier wooden structure of 1854. The lighthouse remained in use until 1933; more recently the Nature Conservancy Council took up the lease from the Llanelli Harbour Trust.

'Lest we Forget' ~ Pembrey & Burry Port ~ Remembrance Day 2016
A wonderful turnout for this year's Remembrance Service at the Memorial Park in Burry Port, Carmarthenshire on a beautiful Autumnal morning. It was good to see a few WW2 Veterans present, Local Dignitaries, representatives from the Armed Forces, Public services, the RNLI ,as well as local youngsters from the area.
Unfortunately Arthur Perry, who is featured on many of my previous productions, was not well enough to attend this year...so we all wish him well.

Summer at Burry Port Harbour July 2015
There was a strong chilly wind coming off the Atlantic, and the beach was nearly empty, but with the tide out, it gave me the opportunity to capture some footage from what is normally under water. Burry Port Carmarthenshire, West Wales, 31/07/2015.
