Opening and closing films for 2019 Busan International Film Festival
2019 BIFF 개막작...영화 '말도둑들, 시간의 길'
Asia's biggest film festival, the Busan International Film Festival, is set to kick off next month for a ten-day run.
Around three hundred films will be showcased at the festival,... and our Choi Si-young takes a closer look at the opening and closing films for this year.
This year's opening film at the Busan International Film Festival is 'The Horse Thieves. Roads of Time' directed by Yerlan Nurmukhambetov and Lisa Takeba.
The film starts with a breadwinner going to market to sell his horse but instead getting killed.
This film from Kazakhstan is similar to classic American Western films.
This film is narrated from an omnipresent point of view,...
Closing film is 'Moonlit Winter' by South Korean director Lim Dae-hyung.
The film tells a story of love once lost but recaptured afterwards between a mother and her daughter.
The festival will kick off on October third, and to commemorate the 100th
anniversary of the Korean film industry, ten major Korean films will premiere at the festival.

The UNTV news broadcast highlighted KPIFF 2019's Directors Showcase which is an omnibus of films from renowned Filipino directors about domestic and international migration.

국내외 유명 스타들과 영화인들이 부산의 가을밤을 수놓았다.
3일 오후 부산 해운대구 우동 영화의 전당에는 제18회 부산국제영화제 개막식이 열렸다. 또한 개막식에 앞서 레드카펫 행사가 더해져 개막 열기를 북돋았다.
이 자리에는 하지원, 유인나, 김소연, 예지원, 윤진서, 소유진, 신지수, 강수연, 한예린, 한효주, 구혜선, 김선아, 김윤혜, 김효진, 홍수아, 전혜빈, 황우슬혜, 강한나 등 여자배우들이 대거 참석해 화려한 자태를 드러냈다.
이번 부산국제영화제 개막식은 배우 강수연과 홍콩출신 배우 곽부성의 사회로 시작되었으며, 폐막식은 배우 송선미와 윤계상의 사회로 마무리 될 예정이다.
3일부터 오는 12일까지 9일 동안 진행되는 제18회 부산국제영화제는 개막작으로 선정된 부탄의 고승이자 영화감독인 키엔체 노르부 감독의 '바라 : 축복' 을 시작으로 전 세계 70개국에서 온 301편의 영화가 관객을 만나기 위한 준비를 마쳤다.

21st Busan International Film Festival kicks off
And some exciting news for movie lovers in Korea...
This year's Busan International Film Festival,... arguably the biggest in Asia,... kicked off Thursday with an impressive lineup of world premieres and award-winning films.
Our Lee Ji-won was there for the opening night,... and filed this report.
Residents of Busan may still be cleaning up from the effects of Typhoon Chaba, but that hasn't put a damper on the excitement for the city's premier event.
The Busan International Film Festival, which kicked off on Thursday, invites over 150 directors and movie stars from around the world... to share their talents -- from popular Korean actress Park So-dam... to Souleymane Cisse, a prominent African film director and a juror for one of the festival awards.
The festival, which is Asia's largest, features roughly 300 films from 70 countries, including over 120 world and international premieres... and numerous award-wining films from this year's Cannes Film Festival.
And to celebrate its support for Asian films and directors over the years, the festival will open and close with Asian films in the spotlight.
The Iraqi film The Dark Wind by director Hussein Hassan will close the festival,... while a Korean film will serve as the opening act for the first time in five years.
A Quiet Dream, by Korean-Chinese director Zhang Lu, is about a young woman who owns a small bar and three men who wish to win her heart.
Filmed in black and white, the atmosphere retains a dream-like quality that draws the audience into the story.
The festival also features a series of public events including forums, master classes and open talks,... where the directors and actors can share their insights with audiences.
