Corrotown, Slip Saddle + Bush Creek | Bike Travel Destination QUEENSTOWN NZ
COROTOWN
Corotown is one very long trail from Slipe Saddle to Bush Creek. The start is really steep with a very deep rut that is a real technical challenge. The end, Bush Creek, is a long flat trail that crosses a lot of creeks which can be a bit annoying but this trail is really an adventure by itself.
Coronet Peak to Arrowtown Cycling via Bush Creek
New Zealand ????????December 2019.
We started off with a trip up the new gondola ???? at Coronet Peak ???? as there was a locals free day.. the girls joined us for this portion of the trip before we said goodbye and started our cycling ????♂️ adventure.
As if last weeks cycling trip ????♀️ wasn’t ambitious enough this week was a whole new level, by the end of the day I even destroyed my bike!
The first trail was known as Rude Rock, starting from the gondola at Coronet Peak with open views ???????? of the valley below, a fast trail full of hidden twists and jumps.. definitely got the adrenaline pumping! ????
The second section was known as the Coronet face water race, which ran horizontally alongside the mountain passing streams and waterfalls ????, some sections had been exposed to landslides which was pretty scary ????.
The third and final section was the most challenging.. known as the Bush Creek ???? trail, it wound down through a hidden valley running alongside a river which seemed to be very swollen and deep at this time, crossing the deep river many times we progressed into Beech forest ???? which was very steep and muddy. This is where I lost control of my bike ???? and destroyed the chain guide.. the rest of the trip was myself rolling down the hills, scooting the bike and being pushed by Jirka and Elie to Arrowtown.

Down at Corotown – Queenstown // Slip Saddle & Bush Creek
Descending the Corotown Track with snow on the Grade 6 Trail Slip Saddle was a gnarly mission. But it was one of the best rides of my life!

Queenstown Arrowtown - Arrow River Trail
Weather being not favorable, we chose to walk the 5km Arrow River Trail. Cycling not recommended for this trail - steep mountain slopes and narrow pathways. The other Arrowtown Trails are:: Bush Creek Trail - 4km; Sawpit Gully Trail - 12km; Hayes Creek Trails - 1 and 2 hours ; Millennium Walkway - 5km and Macetown 4WD Road - 6 hours return.

Coronet DH | Bike Travel Destination QUEENSTOWN NZ
CORONET DH
One of the original trails on the mountain and has an amazing start with cool features. Unfortunately the recent work on the slope has degraded the bottom part so people use it less but it can be still worth a try especially at the top.

Kawarau Gorge Gold Fields Mining Exhibit Highway 8b NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND
QUEENSTOWN The Kawarau River gorge with its steep hills and rapidly flowing river is exceptionally scenic and we made many stops to take photographs. We stopped at a tourist site outlining the gold mining history on this river. Gold was discovered on the Shotover River in 1862, and it became the second richest gold-bearing river in the world. Makeshift towns of tents, stores, bars and grog shops sprang up almost overnight, establishing not only Queenstown, but also Arrowtown, 21 kilometres to the north east beside the Arrow River, and many other small encampments.

Martha Mine 1.
Martha Mine in Waihi, New Zealand. A look at this huge gold mine right in the middle of town. A mountain bike/walking track goes all the way round the rim.
Check out the view from above on Google Earth.
When they stop gold mining here, it is going to be made into a recreational lake.
It will take 6 years to fill up!!!!
See Martha Mine 2 for a different view.
