The Okavango Delta is one of Botswana’s most iconic safari destinations. The world’s largest inland delta is a maze of winding waterways, lagoons and lakes, and is home to abundant and diverse wildlife; all sustained by the cool, blue waters of the delta. Meander through the channels on a mokoro or take in the surrounding sights and sounds on a 4x4 game drive.
The Okavango Delta is brimming with staggering natural beauty and once-in-a-lifetime safari experiences.

Gettin' Lost in Botswana
We explored Botswana for 23 days. It was our second time in this beautiful country as there was so much more to explore such as: Sleeping under the stars at the saltpans 'Makgadikgadi Pan National Park', the beautiful offroad route trought 'Chobe National Park' (Maun/Kasane), were kept awake in the middle of the night by roaring of lions @ Kgalagadi Transfortier Park, rode the most sandy road of our life @ Kalahari Desert and met lovely people from Maun were we spend a hole weekend on their farm/village in the mountains.
Curious what else we experience? Then look at:

Mogotlho Safari Lodge, Botswana
My photographs:
This lodge is located at the following geo coordinates: 19°13'10.679S 23°57'36.737E
Nestled in-between a Leadwood forest, overlooking the Khwai River and beyond which joins Moremi Game Reserve, sits the beautiful Mogotlho Lodge.
The lodge boasts a majestic thatch roofed dining and lounge area which leads out onto an elevated viewing deck over the riverbank. Spectacular sunsets can be admired over sundowners from the quaint bar or from the deck of your comfort en-suite tent.
Once here, you are close to the heart beat of Africa, you can sense the big game heritage from the moment you arrive. Long drinks on the wooden patio overlooking the Khwai River, makes Mogotlho one of the most popular game lodges in Botswana today. The exceptional location of Khwai makes it a regular host to elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. This is the perfect location for observing the perennial drama of the African Bushveld.
Activities at the lodge include morning and afternoon game drives, as well as after-dark spotlight game drives, in our own concession, and into Moremi or Savuti, never forgetting our drives along the Khwai River. A cultural visit to our own partners, the village of Mababe, can also be arranged, as well as guided safari walks along the Khwai River.
For the more adventurous, full-day private or group game excursions, or mobile overnight camps are also available in the Okavango Delta, true wilderness at its best, where guests also have the opportunity to experience a boat cruise. For those wanting to relax, we have a very comfortable lounge for one to just stare over the ineffable splendour of the Khwai River and all the life that flocks to its banks.
Accommodation includes twin beds with full bed linen, ensuite bathroom with shower.
Laundry services are also available.

An average day of camping in Botswana.
Most videos describing elephant encounters are often blowing out of proportions with distressed animals. In areas where not hunted like Botswana elephant bulls roam gently next to your campsite eating of the vegetation. I was on foot making some video with my cell phone of the camp while my fellow travellers were resting. Three large bull elephants were eating behind the tents and one was curious about me. As most elephants do he came on to me to make a statement and check me out. I kept my nerve when he gave a warning 3 meters in front of me. According to my guide I did great, just had not to take a step back but stand my ground showing to be not afraid in ellie language. Please do not create these situations on purpose at home or camp if you are encountering an ellie. It need some animal behaviour knowledge.

Flying over the Okavango Delta in Botswana
The Okavango Delta in Botswana is home to one of the last areas of Africa with wildlife live undisturbed from the influence of mankind. It is also one of those magical places you do not realize exists until you are flying over it at 110 mph, meanwhile regretting you had not budgeted more days for exploration.
Safaris and fly-in camps can be arranged from town offering a host of activities on the accessible islands from game drives to traditional Mokoro canoe rides through the flood plains.
Hundreds of wildebeests grazing, pockets of elephant herds, hippos spotted in the rivers and crocodiles so large they could be viewed from the plane! While these sightings were worth the cost of the flight alone there is still so much more that could not be seen.
Your chance to view Africa's Big 5 can all be accomplished in the delta, as there is a relocation program for rhinos, a healthy population of lions, leopards, water buffalo and the largest population of elephants in the world found here.
Travel advice for those heading to Maun, Botswana.
• Don't forget your passport when you go to the airport for your flight, if you don't have it you will be turned away even though you have no intention of leaving the country.
• If you are a solo traveller call around to the airlines early as it is often hard to be filled on a charter plane with an empty seat. I waited several hours and luckily was filled in the afternoon.
• Sign up for a Mokoro ride and ask for references on who has seen what wildlife recently. The Mokoro is a hollowed out tree used as a canoe, the African version of Venice's gondola rides.
