Missouri's Civil War Bushwhackers & Outlaws
In the border state of Missouri, the conflict over states' rights and slavery led to a bloody guerilla war in which good guys were hard to find and outlaws were celebrated as heroes. Today, the Show-Me State offers travelers no shortage of stories of the bandits who shaped the Civil War and the Wild West Era. Bushwackers On Mainstreet Lexington, Missouri - June 18, 2016
~ Living History of the Bushwacker's took place on Lexington, Missouri's Main Street. Two historic reenactments took place on this sunny and hot 18th of June Day. Robert Maupin, Family and Friends from the Big River Ranch hosted the event:
Many of those who took part are direct descendants of the Bushwackers.
Lexington is rich in its history. The Civil War Battle of the Hemp Bales was fought here. For those following Hemp History's trail, someday visit Lexington's Historical Museum. If Main Street could talk...
Special thanks to Robert Maupin, Family and Friends for staging this event. Thank you to the Band of Brothers Missouri Boat Ride for their period soundtrack.

Taking the HHR Geocaching In Da Woods
Took a trip for a FTF this morning :) Cache I was after was GC2Y3T9. What an adventure. Here is the info found on the cache page:
-----------------------------
This is rated 2.5 because of the condition of the road getting to the cemetery. You will cross a low water bridge and the road is overgrown.
The coordinates will take you to the grave of Eliza Gabbert. From there, on a heading of 290 degrees go app. 90' to the grave of Capt.James M. Gatewood. The cache is located at north 37 degrees 43.A minutes, A being the date of birth of Gatewood minus 1082, west 094 degrees 07.B minutes, B being the date of death minus 1490. The cache is an ammo box with log and swag.
Eliza Gabbert was the daughter of William Old Man Gabbert the leader of a group of local Bushwhackers. Due to Eliza's activities during the Civil War local heritage groups placed a Confederate style stone at her grave.
Lady Bushwhackers were active in Vernon County serving as spies, couriers and scouts. More history about Eliza and other Lady Bushwhackers can be found at the Bushwhacker Museum in Nevada, MO.
James M. Gatewood was a Captain in the Missouri State Guard (pro-Confederate) and raised a company in the Montevallo area. Old Montevello was just south of this cemetery. The town was burned by Federal troops in 1863.
More details on the Border War/Civil War in Vernon County can be found in the book, Fire and Sword, A Missouri County in the Civil War by Patrick Brophy.
Jeremy Neely on bushwhackers
