Tourism Kuranda invites you to spend some time enjoying the many things to see and do in this little piece of paradise.

Cairns is a very pretty tropical city in Far North Queensland. We arrived to spend some time relaxing, to explore the esplanade and waterfront. We also took the Skyrail up into the rainforest Wet Tropics, travelling from Cairns to Kuranda by cable car, train and bus. A great day out for sure!

We got the train to Kuranda and visited the Butterfly Sanctuary, Koala Gardens and Bird world.
We got the Kuranda Skyrail back down which is a cableway gondola and rides above the tropical rainforest.

Cairns 2009 - Kuranda Koala Gardens
Kuranda is a village in the rainforest not far from Cairns. It has plenty of tacky tourist attractions, but I couldn't resist the zoo with koalas, roos, crocs and snakes.

When we were visiting Cairns we decided to go to a village called Kuranda. So, we woke up pretty early and we went to Kuranda Station and enjoyed all the way up to there in that famous scenic railway. Then we walked around the village, shops, cafes and restaurants, and ended up visiting Koala Gardens, Birdworld and Butterfly Sanctuary. Finally, it was time to come back, and the best way was the skyrail with a birds-eye view of the Australian World Heritage protected tropical rainforest.

Kuranda mit Railway & Skyrail
Der vielleicht beliebteste Tagesausflug von Cairns aus führt in das Dorf Kuranda, welches im Regenwald auf der Great Dividing Range liegt. Am besten fährt man morgens mit der Scenic Railway, einer alten Bergbaubahn, hinauf und am Nachmittag mit der Skyrail, einer Gondelbahn, wieder zurück. Auf diese Weise bekommt man nicht nur unterscheidliche Eindrücke vom regenwald, sondern kann auch die Barron Falls von beiden Flussseiten her in Augenschein nehmen. Die Skyrail besitzt 2 Zwischenstationen, an denen man aussteigen kann. Die obere Zwischenstation bietet Ausblicke auf die Barron Falls, bei der unteren bieten sich Exkursionen in den Regenwald an. Meistens steht hier auch ein Ranger zur Verfügung, welcher kurze Führungen anbietet. Auch in der Eisenbahn werden Erklärungen gegeben. Der Zug legt an einem Aussichtspunkt eine kurze Pause ein, sodass man aussteigen kann. Kuranda selbst ist sehr touristisch geprägt, mit zahlreichen Shops, Bars und Restaurants, bietet aber z.B. auch einer sehr gelobten Schmetterlingszoo.
