Additional Notes:
As many tourists pass through Patong, the local vendors on the central streets don't get many repeat customers. That's why the fruit seller can get away with selling subpar coconuts etc with little to no effect on their trade. Something to bear in mind when dealing with the locals.
Balcony Watch
I couldn't resist another episode of balcony watch, seeing as I was not given a sea view and only had a sea of balconies around me.
Gig hotel now not guest friendly
As of early November 2016 the Gig hotel (my previous number 1 recommendation) charges 1000 baht to bring a lady back to the room, regardless if you stay alone or not.
Looks like pure greed for the high season rather than changing to be a family/couple friendly hotel. The thing is they are a decent hotel with a great rooftop pool in a great location so it's a shame. Almost all male solo travellers will be put off by this new policy - I know I won't be staying there again.
Sansabai Sports Bar
This small bar is popular with Aussie's, and I was more than happy with my 180 baht full English Breakfast. My hangover was a distant memory on leaving.
Rain in Patong
Phuket receives a lot more rain than Pattaya and Bangkok so if you are holidaying there during the rainy season the prices are lower but you roll the dice with the weather. It rained 3 out of 4 days I was there, and not just short showers.
Number 6 Restaurant
This cheap Thai food restaurant always has long queues outside, and receives great reviews on tripadviser. If you are planning to visit then maybe try to go outside of peak hours.
C & N Hotel
I booked a studio room and it was obvious from the old plug sockets and bottle opener in the bathroom that it was a very old hotel that'd had a makeover.
The room I had was ok, but everytime I opened the curtains it felt like the whole of Patong could see into my room.
At night I returned home at the very late hour of 4am and was surprised to be getting blasted with heavy bass music from Tai Pan nightclub. Request a room on the North side of the hotel if staying here.
It was an ok hotel and was guest friendly (500 baht for a 3rd girl if you're having a 3some). But I don't count this place in the top Patong hotels as it had no swimming pool, and I could see the noise issue being a problem.
As such, I didn't include C & N hotel in the Bkk112 recommended hotels of Patong. But if you are really stuck for a place to stay then it is an above average place and the staff there were very helpful.

The good, the bad and the ugly:
The good:
Guest friendly, no fees to bring back a lady
Great central location for the Patong nightlife, restaurants and shopping
The beach was a 10 minute walk away which is ok for Patong
Amazing desktop computer in the room with 50 mbps download internet speed!
Bad things:
Swimming pool was ok but was quite small
No fitness centre
The hotel was a bit worn out and not the cleanest in parts
There is noise at night from nearby bars, I wasn't affected by this but it could bother some people if you are sleeping at an early hour
The Ugly:
Be aware the cheaper Superior rooms and the back have no balcony, a poor view and are very small. A Patong bargirl scoffed at me when I showed her my Seacono keycard and told me the rooms were too small, that's why it's essential to book the Grand Superior rooms at this hotel...
Overall:
I liked Seacono Boutique hotel, and it was my favourite place on my recent visit to Patong. I liked the location being so close to Bangla Road, with many bars and restaurants being just a couple of minutes walk away.
The main thing for me was having the desktop computer in the room with 50 Mbps download speed. As a YouTube addict I was in hogs heaven watching all my favourite channels in 1080p on a big screen. This might not be a big thing for all visitors so if you're not bothered about the desktop computer then maybe give Seacono hotel a miss.
I was sad to move on from this place in the end. All the little grievances I had about the room evaporated when chilling out with a frosty beer watching YouTube in 1080p...

Patong Beach is the true heart of Phuket, and what makes it so attractive to many, is often what other people hate most about it. Patong is big, bold, crowded, bright and loud. And yet millions of people flock here every year like flies on honey. If Bangkok is the Big Mango, then Patong is the Big Durian: you’ll love Patong, or you’ll hate it! The original success and popularity of Patong beach mostly rotate around two things: a fantastic beach and a legendary wild nightlife.
Just walk up and down Bangla Walking Street at night, and you will understand instantly why it is so popular. Everyone is there: guys, girls, couples and even families with kids. And why not? Patong has rooftop bars, beach clubs, world-class nightclubs and excellent Night Clubs. For many, it’s a once in a lifetime party experience (once a year for some). For others, it’s mostly a curiosity to tick-off their ‘must-do’ list, and talk about once back home. Just look at the crowd staring at sexy and very feminine ladyboys dancing on a street stage in a very tiny outfit, and you’ll get the picture, literally. And don’t forget to close your mouth.
The Beach of Patong
The beach is 3 kilometers long and often crowded in the middle part during high season. Forget about parking your car anywhere around there, and even parking your motorbike can be a problem.
The northern part of the beach, not far from Novotel Phuket and Graceland resort is more beautiful and a lot less busy. In this part of Patong, there are fewer people and more parking, plenty of local food and fruit vendors to enjoy. Water is also bluer during high season, and there are plenty of palm trees to sit under.
The water at the southern end is not always as clear as in the north, because below a large bridge, a river flows into the sea. Under the bridge is a surprisingly old-fashioned fishermen village, where most longtail boats are parked when not in use. Since it is easy to access, it may be worth a photo.
On this part of the beach, you can rent umbrellas and beach chairs which are now available on 10% of the beach (probably more now!). A long floating pontoon is installed during high season for tourists to ride those longtail boats that will take them to the beautiful and secluded Freedom Beach.
Patong Nightlife
Patong nightlife essentially rotates around Bangla Walking Street, all the way to Rat-U-Thit Road (the second road parallel to the beach). Every evening from 6 pm, this road closes to the traffic and turns into an incredibly busy walking street. On each side, a vast amount of entertainment battles to grab your attention, senses, and money!
Whether it’s with bright light, loud music or ladies wanting you to have a seat at one of the many open beer bars or even touts inviting you to have a look at the naughty shows (you should never follow touts by the way!). Patong has evolved a lot though, there are now great live music bars, enormous nightclubs, rooftop bars and of course, Go-Go Bars are still here.
Further is the Paradise Complex, known to be the gay street, easy to spot as it’s right at the feet of the Royal Paradise Hotel tower. It can be worth a visit, it’s friendly and you can watch a small ladyboy cabaret show for the price of a drink.
Shopping in Patong
You could say “there is something for everyone in Patong Beach” but in fact, it’s clearly tourist-oriented. As you walk the street, expect to see souvenirs shops, tailors, Thai massage-foot massage-soapy massage, tailors, suitcases shops, tailors, art galleries, tailors. Did I forget most visible and often invasive: tailors!
Night markets have become incredibly popular in Patong and there are no less than four to explore, Otop Market, Malin Plaza being the most popular. There are also two shopping malls here to enjoy. Jungceylon and Central Patong both offer a more sophisticated shopping experience as well as an excellent way to escape the heat with plenty of restaurants, shopping and activities. If you want to know more, read about the Jungceylon Shopping Center, but don’t miss the Banzaan Fresh Market just behind it, it is a chance to see real fresh local fruits, spices and products!
