Partners in space: CSIRO and NASA celebrate its 50th anniversary
The 26th of February 2010 marks the 50th anniversary of CSIRO's partnership with NASA in solar system exploration. Learn more about our historic collaboration in this video.
The milestone in international cooperation marks the completion of the first half century of treaty level partnership in space tracking between CSIRO and NASA.
Since the early 1960s NASA has contracted CSIRO radio telescopes to augment its network of tracking stations for particular missions as part of its Deep Space Network (DSN).
CSIRO manages the Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex (CDSCC), one of three DSN stations around the world used for communicating with NASA's spacecraft.
In this video, key personnel from CSIRO and NASA reflect on the accomplishments of the CDSCC and the DSN, which is founded primarily on its people and the strength of international collaboration stretching back to the beginning of space exploration.

The Rabbit in Australia (1979)
The story of the European rabbit in Australia must surely be one of the most amazing examples of an animal's ability to colonise a new land. Just how and why this happened makes a fascinating study.
This film traces the history of the rabbit from its evolutionary home in the Mediterranean through to its introduction into Australia as a source of food and sport and as a reminder of the English countryside. The rabbit population explosion began about 1860, and within 30 years, rabbit numbers had reached plague proportions over large parts of southern Australia. The long battle to control the rabbit had begun.
With the introduction of Myxomatosis in 1950 came the start of a big research effort aimed at a complete understanding of rabbit behaviour and ecology. Not many animals have ever been studied in such detail, so that we now have a much better understanding of how rabbits feed, breed and survive in different parts of Australia.
The film shows some aspects of social behaviour, reproduction and predation. It shows that, while rabbits were ideally suited to Australia's temperate areas, they have also adapted to living in arid country and even in alpine regions.

Abandoned :Ottery arsenic mine
#Abandoned arsenic mine I found while out road tripping just by chance.
It is very poorly sign posted and I almost drove past the turn off but being the curious person I am, I turned around to go check it out anyway. It was very obscure and just a simple sign on the road saying arsenic mine No direction no nothing.
As you can see in the early 90's a lot of work was done by national parks to try and preserve as much of the site as they could but as I state in my video the next government stopped funding so now all good intentions are now falling into disrepair.
I videoed alot of info so I don't have to repeat myself here and it will get you watching the video.
Very interesting find. Very interesting that it is so open to people accessing the arsenic which I find very strange.
I hope you enjoy this video. Leave a comment and give me a thumbs up.If you live in northern nsw Australia and might know of any abandoned places that you think I'd like to explore, I'd love to hear from you.

This video should tide you all over until I get back and you never know I might even video my time away while #trekking the wilds of the Australian tropics for you to watch.

I decided to post this video because my youtube buddy recently upload a video that reminded me I had this video on the back burner. He #tours around my area on his bike and even though I now zip about motorbikes I really enjoy his vids. Go check him out as I said. Heres the link.
CSIRO - A national resource (1986)
Since 1926, we have played a major role in making Australia's primary industries amongst the most competitive in the world. But, in recent years, the structure of world economics has changed radically. One of our major aims today is to develop new areas of expertise to meet the challenges of the world revolutions in technology and information systems. CSIRO is now, more than ever before, designing its programs around the specific needs of Australia's industries and the welfare of the Australian community.

Agriculture in Australia
Australia is a major agricultural producer and exporter, with over 325,300 employed in Agriculture, forestry and fishing as of February 2015. Agriculture and its closely related sectors earn $155 billion-a-year for a 12% share of GDP. Australian farmers and graziers own 135,997 farms, covering 61% of Australia's landmass. Across the country there is a mix of irrigation and dry-land farming. The CSIRO, the federal government agency for scientific research in Australia, has forecast that climate change will cause decreased precipitation over much of Australia and that this will exacerbate existing challenges to water availability and quality for agriculture.
There are three main zones: the high rainfall zone of Tasmania and a narrow coastal zone; wheat, sheep zone, and the grazing of sheep plus beef cattle) and the pastoral zone. An indicator of viability of agriculture in the state of South Australia is whether land is within Goyder's Line.
