Neck Point Nanaimo BC presented by Mike McKillican
Description
Neck Point is a destination waterfront park for Nanaimo and the region. The park is recognized as an environmentally sensitive area and is well known in the community for its historic, scenic and natural features. Additional land was aquired in 2009 and the park now provides visitors with 36 acres of a waterfront setting to explore. Visitors will find rugged rock cliffs, with pebble bay beaches, and winding trails through Garry Oak groves. The park is a great location for photographers wanting to capture the essence of Nanaimo and the west coast lifestyle.
The park is also popular with scuba divers as an access road allows for drive up diving. Divers tell tales of an impressive array of sealife off the rocky headlands at the end of the parks namesake 'neck'. There is a deep water rock wall face that is reportedly home to a friendly octopus.
The headland area in the north section of the park is a great spot to watch for Orca and Sealions and otters. During herring season the beach is awash with the row (January).

UFO: Downtown Nanaimo Vancouver Island: June 30 2014

This video of a UFO was captured on my iPhone last summer. I wasn't sure if I would ever share it for a number of reasons. Primarily being I'm not entirely convinced UFOs are otherworldly or paranormal in nature. Regardless, this was thee incident that made me decide I needed a new camera.
I live in downtown Nanaimo in an upper level condo suite. I'd seen these reddish lights over downtown before, but had been hesitant to tell anyone. This time, I happened to have had the curtains open when I saw one of these lights coming from the North. I ran outside and took two still images on my phone. This was at 10:17 pm. The first still image is part of this video and will be attached below. The second image was more of a blur so is not in the video. This will be below as well. I do like the clearer still image even though it isn't super crisp because you can see how red it is.
After I took the two pictures, I clued in that I should be taking video and started to record at 10:18 pm. What was interesting to me at the time, was that the light looked white and not red in the video. It flew South over the top of my building, zig-zagged a bit, and then finally disappeared.
A few minutes later, at 10:23, I saw an identical light travelling in what appeared to be along the exact same path. I then took the second clip included in the above video.
The building you can see on the horizon is the government building across from Nanaimo's city hall (behind the tree). The intersection below me that can be heard is Albert Street and Commercial/Victoria Street.
Since I shot this video, I've become aware that these lights have been seen all over the island and around the Greater Vancouver Area. There are other videos available online, and reports where people describe the lights the same: reddish or orange.
One previous time that I saw them, there were two flying quickly from West to East away from the island in a diagonal pattern. By diagonal pattern I mean that one flew slightly above and to the side of the other. During that incident they flew so fast that they were out of sight in seconds.
I can not pretend to know what these lights are. They're mysterious and unexplained to me. As I said above, however, I'm undecided if these lights are paranormal in nature, something from another world (?), or a classified military craft of some sort.

A Second Look at Strange Light in the Sky
NANAIMO -- A Nanaimo man is still searching for answers to a strange object he captured on his camcorder in the sky above Campbell River over the weekend. And he is not alone.
Since CTV News first aired the story last night, we received feedback from viewers regarding similar sightings of strange lights in the sky. Many viewers told us that you too have seen the light, while others offered suggestions as to what it could be.
CTV News took the video to an astronomy professor at Vancouver Island University. He says the sighting could be anything, ranging from an aircraft to a meteor.
Suggestions also poured in on Twitter with one amateur star gazer saying he thinks the light is a reflection from the International Space Station. He expects the light to return tonight at 10:05 PM and again at 11:40 PM as it is directly correlated to the Space Stations rotation around Earth.
