Visit a Cacao Farm in Ecuador - A Farm to Table & PURE Chocolate Bean to Bar Foodie Experience
???? Did you know Ecuador is now believed to be the birthplace of chocolate, and Ecuador played a key role in introducing it to the West? The world’s oldest chocolate was made 5,300 years ago in Southern Ecuador by the Mayo-Chinchipe-Marañón people. As chocolate lovers we're especially excited to share our next video with you!
???? We visited a lovely farm called 'Cacao & Mango' in Naranjal, Guayas, Ecuador (near Guayaquil). We enjoyed walking around the farm to see everything they grow including cacao, mango, plantain, dragonfruit, lemongrass, rice & more. We got to taste the sweet white fruit of the Cacao pod, and then see how they roast, shell & grind the beans to make PURE CHOCOLATE! Wow! Absolutely delicious!
☕ Some chocolate connoisseurs say Ecuador's fine cacao is more complex because their Arriba beans vary hugely in taste & size, depending on where they're grown (just like wine). And some say there's magic to cocoa beans grown at the equator. Ecuador's fine chocolate is known for its floral qualities, but some beans taste more like fruits, while others have nutty or malt flavors.
???????? We enjoyed a beautiful, delicious lunch with food from the farm at their open air restaurant by the river. We visited with the farmer's son Jairo Lara and his sisters to learn about their life there. Their family has been farming this land for 65 years, and it was the idea of one of the Lara daughters - Tourism student & chef Ninfa - to create a restaurant and chocolate experience at the farm. This has been a new revenue source to support their family. After lunch, some of our team relaxed in the hammocks by the river ????

Field to city exchange: Ally Peruvian cacao farmers visit Ecuador
Our Peru Project is part of the field to city exchange program. In this opportunity, we invited 9 women cacao farmer allies from where we obtain our Fino de Aroma cacao profile from Perú. The entrepreneurs traveled to the capital of Ecuador, Quito, where we have our chocolate production factory and our Chocolate Laboratory.
The objective of the meeting was to promote opportunities that allow the participation of women in the cocoa production process, achieve rural development, incorporating a perspective of gender equity and productive diversification focused on artisanal transformation with added value. # SDG5 #Genterequality

In Quito, successful family farming systems are being developed. With technical assistance from specialists, the Ecuadorian capital produces around 420,000 kilos of food a year, simultaneously generating jobs and strengthening social ties.
