Voice of a Grateful Nation - Volume One - Texas Rock, Blues & Folk
Presented by the Welcome Home Project
The Welcome Home Project is a nationwide effort designed to unite the power of music with our country's compassionate spirit, entrepreneurial skills, and individual creativity to herald a resounding Thanks and Pledge of Support for our military veterans. Our production team and non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization have assembled an exceptional group of Texas songwriters to write songs and revisit wartime classics in support of veteran issues. Voices of a Grateful Nation, Volumes I & II, are the initial offerings in this ongoing CD series. These first two Texas-flavored recordings will be followed by additional releases from different parts of the country and will feature the vast aesthetic spectrum that characterizes American Music.
The Project and the CD Series play an essential role in highlighting the challenges faced by our troops and by introducing a no-nonsense benefit package for our returning warriors. We are bringing together large corporate sponsors, smaller regional businesses, and compassionate individuals in a partnership of a national unity designed to generate pragmatic results.
We feel that our greatest challenge, and by extension, the standard by which our country will be judged, rests with the quality of support we render to our military veterans. The Welcome Home Project is a unique opportunity for Americans everywhere to come together and adress our moral responsibilities in supporting the United States Armed Forces.

Planning the perfect meeting in Lubbock, Texas
Sammy, a meeting and event planner, sends a video postcard to her friend Ted about Lubbock, Texas, which will be hosting her company's annual conference. While doing her site visit, she discovers all of the big-city amenities, small-town charm and surprising perks that make Lubbock a perfect destination for corporate, association, social, military and religious groups. Created for Visit Lubbock. For more information, go to
Here's a transcript of the video:
Dear Ted,
I just finished my site tour in Lubbock, Texas and I had to tell you about it. Remember last year's convention, where we spent most of our time on shuttles? Well, not this year. Getting around is so quick and easy in Lubbock. In fact I think a lot of things are going to be easier here.
Everyone is so friendly and makes you feel so welcome, everywhere you go. I think that will really play well with my association — and with that church group you're working with. Actually, they have one of the best and most affordable golf courses in the US. I know you need to look out for that executive retreat you're planning, in terms of budget and perception, so you may want to look at Lubbock for that too.
My association meeting is about 250 to 300 people, so I was thinking about using the Overton Hotel & Conference Center as our host hotel. It's the only Four Diamond hotel in West Texas, and we could all meet under one roof. But there are a lot of other options for overflow or for smaller groups like the Holiday Inn Hotel & Towers, Holiday Inn Park Plaza, LaQuinta, Embassy Suites and Hawthorne Suites.
For our opening reception, I was thinking of using the Silent Wings Museum. Most of the World War II glider pilots were trained there. The CVB knew a great swing band I could use. In fact, there were so many musical resources and music-themed venues here that I'm going make that a major part of this meeting.
There's the Buddy Holly Center and the West Texas Walk of Fame. You can get group tickets to see shows at Moonlight Musicals or the Cactus Theatre, and most of it is located in the Historic Depot Entertainment District. I was thinking of doing a progressive event though there one evening. I really want my group to sample the variety of sights, sounds and tastes Lubbock has to offer. Because this small town has so many big city amenities!
In fact, I just assumed that most of their events were in the 250 to 450-person range. I had no idea they do up to 11,000-person meetings. Then I remembered the United Spirit Arena on the Texas Tech campus, which seats 15,000 people, and they also have the weather — and the plazas — to do large outdoor events as well.
I checked out the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center for you. I think you'll like it a lot. Their 40,000-sq. ft. exhibit hall is column-free, which I knew you'd love. And they also have a 1,400-seat theater and 14,000-sq. ft. banquet hall.
I also thought you'd like the American Wind Power Center, home to the largest windmill museum in the world, — you can take your groups there to learn about renewable energy, and they also have meeting and event space.
Hey, did you know that Texas Tech has amazing speakers? The CVB is going to help me secure a couple. Oh! And they have a place where you can go and watch prairie dogs. It's called Prairie Dog Town — I love them. I think I'm going to have to fit that in somewhere — maybe for a spousal or family tour.
For our closing night reception, I'm going to book the Cap Rock Winery. It's housed in a beautiful Spanish Mission-style building and features event space perfect for groups both big and small. There's actually a total of 5 wineries around Lubbock, all of which offer tours and tastings.
The CVB is really taking great care of me. They're hooking me up with welcome bags and programs, on-site registration and tours, signage, name badges, press releases for local media and I think the Mayor is going to come and welcome our group. How cool is that?
Well Ted, I'd love to tell you more, but I have to sign off so I can enjoy this amazing sunset at a Lubbock hot spot called The Roof. I may have to figure out how to bring people here too.
OK, see you soon. Hopefully next spring in Lubbock!
Your friend, Sammy.

Cactus Cuties - Think - Capitol Building, Washington, DC
Please sign our petition to keep music education in schools:
The Cactus Cuties entertain over 1,000 music students from across the country on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Capitol Building as part of The National Anthem Project. National Anthem Project is sponsored by MENC: The National Association for Music Education.
According to a Harris Poll 2/3 of the population DO NOT know the lyrics to The Star-Spangled Banner.
Not knowing the national anthem is a symptom of a larger problem in our school systems, said Dr. John Mahlmann, Executive Director, MENC. Research shows music education at an early age greatly increases the likelihood a child will grow up to seek higher education, earn a higher salary and feel more personally fulfilled. Music education teaches people how to think and work with others - - skills that are the foundation to success in our society today. We know as a result of The National Anthem Project, more teachers are teaching children The Star-Spangled Banner. Thats the good news. The bad news is music teachers have less time and fewer resources to work with our children. Our country and our children will be poorer for it..

Peyton Reusch 2 sings Star Spangled Banner (Cactus Cuties Style)(Autism)
Here is a video i took today on my B-Berry. Anywho this is 2 year old Peyton serenading us while we are eating. He is singing the star spangled banner (he learned it from his girls the Cactus Cuties). He has been singing this since he was 1, but i have never been able to catch him singing it till now. He would always stop when i busted out the camera. U kinda have to say it along with him or you might get lost. Most of it you can understand, but some of it turns into gibberish. He actually sings it twice......u have to listen all the way through. At the end of the second one he hits a high note that is soooo funny. Anyhow hope it works.........this is for all my family out there who tried to get P to sing this song for them at x-mas and he wouldn't. Enjoy!!
