HIKING THE TRAIL OF TEARS | ADVENTURE ARKANSAS EP 2

On our weekly Explore Arkansas trip we decided to hike part of the Trail of Tears in Conway AR. The park is called Cadron Settlement Park and runs alongside the Arkansas River. After hiking, we headed to my folks house for some good ole steaks and a round bale of hay for my new bow target :)

Cadron Park Part 2

Overview: This trail starts off with a steep little climb which there seems to be a lot of these out there. As for long sustained climbs go you won't find any really long ones out there, however, there is one in particular about 3.5 miles in that is a little long and a little steep. The descents on this trail are about like the ascents, short and steep. Be prepared for a lot of up and down and around on this trail, it's kind of like a roller coaster ride. As for technical stuff goes there are a few places out there that might intimidate some but for the most part it really is not that bad. The trail itself is tight and twisty so don't expect an open and flowing trail. The trail does open up a bit from time to time where you can really get going. One spot I found particularly fun was a natural banked turn coming off a small hill. Signage, for the most part, is pretty good. There is another trail that intersects this one so watch out for that. The trail is not that long but it is fun to ride. I don't think I would drive over an hour to ride it but if in the Little Rock or Conway area I think it would be worth it. If you needed to get a quick ride in after work or something, this trail would give you a great workout. There are some really great views of the Arkansas River from some nice advantage points. The only complaint I had was the mosquito's, I have never seen them that bad. My advice is if you go out there in the spring or summer months get yourself some mosquito spray. While you’re there go check out the old log garrison up on the hill, there was some pretty interesting history made in that little area of the world.

Recommended Route: Park near the restrooms next to the Sand Company. The trailhead is across the parking lot from the restrooms, across a rock bridge. We did this in a clockwise direction and it seemed to work out pretty good for us.

Rating: Advanced beginners and up should like this trail. About the only thing I could see that someone might not enjoy is the steep climbs.
