The Afterwhile can cover a wide range of musical genres and have become one of the most sought after bands around. They have been compared to the likes of Mumford & Sons, Brandi Carlile, Ray Lamontagne, and Adele just to name a few.
The Afterwhile's lead singer Gina Cuchetti holds a degree in voice from the prestigious Berklee School of Music in Boston and was a final 20 choice in the blind auditions in front of the celebrity judges on season 2 of the hit TV show “The Voice”. DeLandapalooza 2014: Walk Around Video #1
5 April 2014 - Downtown Deland, Florida.
DeLandapalooza #4 featured 150 bands on 27 stages, spread out on both sides of Woodland Boulevard. I was there to video one of the bands scheduled for 8:30 PM on the main stage of Cafe DaVinci at the corner of Florida and Georgia Avenues.
The gates opened at 1 PM. I arrived at 3, parking near Main Gate #2. I wanted to experience an event I had heard about, but not attended, so I decided to spend several hours walking around, shooting short video clips and, on ocassion, a few minutes of from a band.
Like all music events, the entertainment is provided by the people who attend, as much as the musicians.
The inital playlist has seven walk around videos and part of the set of a group called Coyotes & TownDogs.
There will be a few more added, since I want to feature a couple of performances.
The first stage I passed (#24) was a showcase for metal bands. Just down Georgia Avenue was Cafe DaVinci, with three stages (21, 22 & 23). The path from Cafe DaVinci went along Artisan Alley, where stage 20 was located. Stage 19 was tucked in the back of an ecletic gift shop.
Artisan Alley led to New York Avenue, and the Volusia County Courthouse. In the courtyard around the courthouse was Chess Park, stage 2, with an attrative waterfall backdrop.
Stage 1 was located on Indiana Avenue, near the Atbhens Theater. Vendors lined Indiana Avenue all the way to Woodland Boulevard. Stages 2 and 3 were in the Artist Village area.
Rich Avenue and Woodland had stages 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. I didn't get down there.
A food court was surrounded by stages 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17. Stage 18 was adjanct to the Blind Pig at the corner of Florida and New York. Stages 24 and 25 were on Woodland Boulevard between New York and Georgia.
Since there was so many bands, I often got to a stage as set up was taking place.
Next year, I'll plan a little better and focus more on some of the bands, rather than the excitement of the venue.

This is a warning to Rappers from J which is Yod meaning Hand in Hebrew. I'm happy your industry tried me then tried to F me over. I don't twist no story homey. That hole discourage n people before you stank them. It didn't work for so many. You'll see where they went. Y'all Rappers just keep shitting on me. Its a short stroll to that stage.
Lori's Song - The Afterwhile
I wrote this song by special request from Lori Schumann of Kiester, MN. I met Lori five years ago at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where she was being treated for breast cancer. Lori was an amazing, positive, spirit and was always quick with a joke or something to make you laugh about. She asked me to write a song about her hometown of Kiester, MN where she was born and raised and later raised her two children with her husband.
After returning home to Florida I wrote the song over the next two months. In that time Lori's cancer had gotten really bad and they sent her home to Kiester to be comfortable with her family and friends. I was going to fly up to sing the song for her in person, but something told me to make a quick recording of it and send it up through email. Her daughter placed the laptop next to Lori on her bedside and played her the song. She told me Lori was in tears with a big smile on her face. Shortly after the song was over Lori passed away peacefully. Her family told me she was waiting for her song and I feel so grateful that she was able to hear it.
Since then Lori's Song has sort of taken on it's own wings and Lori has been putting it in places I never could have. I just feel blessed and fortunate to have been the vessel through which this song could take form.
Please feel free to share this story and song with anyone you feel is in need.
Above all, never give up and stay positive!! Thanks for listening!
Anthony Cuchetti
