Cairns, considered the gateway to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, is a city in tropical Far North Queensland. Its Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park tells the stories of indigenous Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with music and dance. Cairns Esplanade, lined with bars and restaurants, has a swimming lagoon. Northwest of the city, Daintree National Park spans mountainous rainforest, gorges and beaches.

Skyrail Rainforest/Kuranda Scenic Railway day trip travel guide, Cairns, Australia
Skyrail is a 7.5 km long cableway from the Cairns suburb of Springfield to the small town of Kuranda. There are two stopping points where you are encouraged to alight from the capsules and explore the World Heritage Listed rain forest at ground level.
There are two levels of Skyrail travel: standard and Diamond View. The later lets you travel in glass-floor gondolas and you join a priority line at all terminals and stations. It is a great experience which ever level you select.
Kuranda is a village in the rainforest with several interesting attractions. Three of these are situated in the famous tourist market where there are stalls and restaurants to keep every visitor satisfied. This is where you find the Birdworld Kuranda, Koala Gardens and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary.
Skyrail operates from 8.45am each day. The Kuranda Scenic Railway departs from Freshwater train station at 8.55am and 9.55am. It departs from Kuranda at 2.00pm and 3.30pm.

Welcome back! In ep 2 we take the 5 cast who have only just met out to explore The Great Barrier Reef off Cairns, Australia on EVOLUTION ~ a 120ft luxury vessel with Down Under Cruise & Dive. This is part of a series so make sure you check out ep 1 if you haven't already.
These guys didn't know what we'd lined up for them day to day while filming this travel show so to take them out to explore one of the natural wonders of the world on this vessel was incredible but surprisingly challenging for them too!
Between visiting exclusive reef sites, a glass out day with 25m viz for scuba diving & snorkelling, the surprise addition of a scenic flight onboard a luxury aircraft for one of the cast, semi-submersible coral viewing and GOLD CLASS - we're talking your own air conditioned private section of the vessel for your group, your own own mini bar/wine fridge, flat screen with high tech audio, gourmet bbq lunch + wine, cheese & live music on the cruise home she was a ripper day!
