Cycling on the Cal Sag Trail from Lemont, IL
The Cal-Sag Trail Legacy Campaign
The Cal-Sag Trail will be a 32-mile multi-use path connecting Burnham, Illinois to Lemont along the Cal-Sag Channel and Calumet River. It will transform this corridor into health infrastructure, a corridor of commerce, a protected space—it impacts a Triple Bottom Line.
You can participate directly in this transformation.
The Cal-Sag Trail Legacy Campaign ( is a fundraising effort by the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail and the Cal-Sag Trail Coalition to raise 20% of construction costs, or $3 million, that are unfunded by federal grants.
Contact Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail, friends@calsagtrail.org or 708/365-9365, to discuss sponsorship and donor opportunities that can make the Cal-Sag Trail a part of your legacy.

Cal-Sag Trail Ride 2012
Soon after learning the Friends of the Cal-Sag Trail had posted the trail alignment for the Cal-Sag Trail, Blue Island's Glen and Jason set off to ride the entire alignment in preparation of FOCST's annual Bridges & Blues fundraiser... and to stake Blue Island's claim of first to finish and the glory of bare-knuckle trail building. Due to the Marquette & Jolliet nature of this early exploration, the 26 mile trip took nearly 7 hours to complete as the boys stopped to discover some of the hidden gems of this amazing trail - and lunch at T&G's in Uptown Blue Island.
Setting off from Lemont on a cold Saturday morning, the trail took them through Cook County Forest Preserves, Palos Park, Palos Heights and Lake Katherine, Crestwood, Alsip, historic Blue Island, Riverdale, Dolton, and Calumet City before finishing in Burnham at the Burnham Greenway. We love our Cal-Sag communities and you should come down for a visit soon!
Thanks much to Steve Buchtel of Trails for Illinois and Blue Island Alderman Mark Patoska for helping make it happen!
