This museum is located in an old Moorish fortres the Calahorra Tower, opposite the Great Mosque, at the end of the Roman Bridge.
Its aim is to provide a recreation of the Cordoba of the period between the 9th-13th centuries, at a time of brilliant cultural, artistic and scientific achievement. Its modern facilities include a system of headphones and infrared data transfer that guide you through the eight themed rooms with dioramas.
The Calahorra Tower was built by order of Enrique II de Trastamara to defend the city when under attack from his brother Pedro I 'the Cruel'. The interactive guided tour illustrates the many ways in which Jewish, Christian and Moslem cultures thrived side by side in Medieval Cordoba.
Visitors especially enjoy the excellent scale models or miniature of the Cordoba Mosque, Alhambra Granada

Torre de la Calahorra e Puente Romano, Cordoba - Spain 4K Travel Channel
Cordoba visitors should not miss to go to the Plaza del Triunfo, located between the Mosque and the Rio Guadalquivir. In the 17th century Cordoba was affected by a serious plague. The archangel Raphael, patron of the city, appeared to Father Andrés de las Roelas and announced that he will save the city. As the epidemic declined, one built a number of monuments in order to honor the saint. The San Rafael triumphal monument shows the statue of the archangel on a column.
The square also forms a viewing platform from where the Puente Viejo and Rio Guadalquivir is particularly nice to see.
Embedded between the Place del Triunfo, the Mezquita and the former episcopal see, a ramp leads to the Puerta del Puente, the Gate of the Bridge. It was originally part of the Arabian fortification walls, but later it was rebuilt in renaissance style.
The Puente Romano de Cordoba (the Roman Bridge) is also called the old bridge, Puente Viejo. It was built after the battle of Munda. 45 BC, Gaius Julius Caesar struck conservatives Republicans devastating. 30,000 people were killed. The brothers Sextus and Gnaeus Pompey escaped to Cordoba. When Caesar attacked the city, the city surrendered, nevertheless, further 20,000 people were killed. The Puente Romano was part of the Via Augusta, which runs from the Pyrenees to Cadiz.
At the other end of the Puente Romano is the striking Torre de la Calahorra, that once served as a watchtower. Today it houses a museum that deals with the religions during the time of the caliphate.
From here you have the best view of the city, the Mezquita, the Puerta del Puente, the Rio Guadalquivir and the Puente Romano. On the city side bank is a huge paddle wheel can bee seen. It once supplied the gardens of Alcazar de los Reyes Cristiano with water from the Rio Guadalquivir.

Roman bridge of Córdoba:
The Roman bridge of Córdoba is a bridge in the Historic centre of Córdoba, Andalusia, southern Spain, originally built in the early 1st century BC across the Guadalquivir river, though it has been reconstructed at various times since. Most of the present structure dates from the Moorish reconstruction in the 8th century. It is included in the small preserved area known as Sotos de la Albolafia.
The bridge was built by the Romans in the early 1st century BC, perhaps replacing a previous wooden one. It currently, after the Islamic reconstruction, has 16 arcades, one fewer than originally, and a total length of 247 meters. The width is around 9 meters.
The Via Augusta, which connected Rome to Cádiz, most likely passed through it. During the early Islamic domination the Muslim governor Al-Samh ibn Malik al-Khawlani ordered a bridge to be built on the ruins of what was left of the old Roman construction. In the Middle Ages, the Calahorra Tower and the Puerta del Puente were built at the bridge's southern and northern ends, respectively (the latter is now a 16th-century reconstruction). The bridge was reconstructed and expanded to its current size. The arches depict the famous Moorish architecture that dominates the city's scenery. In the 17th century, a sculpture depicting St. Raphael was put in the middle of the bridge, executed by Bernabé Gómez del Río.
During its history, the bridge was restored and renovated several times (in particular in the 10th century), and now only the 14th and 15th arches (counting from the Puerta del Puente) are original. It was extensively restored in 2006.
