Trip info:
Best time to visit, take the early morning tours that leave at 4-5am. Confirm with tour operator that you can see the animal feeding at 8am. That’s when the animals come together.
There’s 19 giraffes and 35 zebras at the time of our visit. But we didn’t get to see all as we went after the feeding time.
Calauit isolated island, easy to contain disease outbreak if it happens. A 1976 experimental project. The initial animals that came from Africa have all died. These are their offspring.
There’s a lot of poisonous jellyfish in the sea so this area is not recommended for swimming.
Never in my wildest mind have I imagined another island could beat Nacpan in terms of sand quality and beauty. We present to you - BLACK ISLAND!

5D|4N Coron, Palawan Budget-Friendly DIY Tour
CORON PALAWAN
Coron is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Located in the Calamian Archipelago, its boasts different natural attractions from enchanting lakes and lagoons to picturesque white sand beaches. It was also listed as one of the most beautiful diving sites in the world.
Coron, a town in the province of Palawan, is one of the most sought after destinations in the Philippines. And you can easily understand why. It has pristine white sand beaches, unbelievably turquoise waters, rich marine life, World War II shipwrecks and karsts-dotted landscapes that can rival the best that the world has to offer. Often referred to as the country’s Last Frontier, it is located at the upper region of Palawan.
ACCOMMODATION
We stayed at Jim's Castle Inn through Booking.com, got 4-nights for P2700.00 only ????
TOURS
We recommend getting fliers from the Airport and compare the rates, usually there is P100-P500 difference when it comes to the tours. You can always haggle as well and make sure to check the amenities too like free kayak and entrance fees. The most popular is J and Y Tours, we got them for both Coron Island (Private tour) and Beach Hopping of Malcapuya, Banana and Bulog Dos islands (Joiner tours). They have affordable joiner rates and cheap boat rentals if you plan on touring private. You will also be assigned a tour guide per boat. Their joiner tours also include lunch. When we visited, they served us grilled fish, lato, chicken-pork adobo, a veggie dish, rice, salad, bread, and fresh fruits – more than enough for the 10 of us who joined.

KISS a Giraffe - Calauit Safari Tour Coron
How to KISS a Giraffe - A bit of Africa in the Philippines Palawan! Our next adventure takes us to Calauit Safari Park which is a game reserve and wildlife sanctuary in Calauit Island, Palawan. The animals here came mostly from Africa shipped to the Philippines in 1977. This wildlife sanctuary was established in response to Kenya's then President's request during a third world conference to help save African wildlife from drought and war. We saw giraffes, zebras and the endemic Calamian deer roaming freely around the park. There were other animals in cages which according to our tour guide were kept on display for about a month and then released into the wild. Most of the animals that were confiscated in Palawan due to illegal poaching are also brought here for monitoring and eventually released into the wild. We saw some big river turtles kept in a pond here which were confiscated from poachers. After our tour, the park guide took us to the area for feeding the giraffes. These gentle tall creatures are not shy when it comes to getting their food. Watch the video and find out how to kiss a giraffe!????????

Calauit Wildlife Reserve Philippines A Piece of Africa With Tribal Adventures and the Divergent Travelers.
Take a walk on the wild-side in Africa? No it's the Philippines! It is quite a surreal experience to see giraffes and zebras wandering around at will. These animals are not tame by any means, the guide are sure to keep and eye on you and be sure you maintain a safe distance from them as they move freely through the area. There is a select herd of zebras and giraffes that hang out in the main area that you arrive to, these guys are more tolerant of seeing people and are less shy.Check out our full blog post and photos Finding piece of Africa on Calauit Island.
WELCOME TO | Calauit Island, Palawan, Philippines
Calauit Island is one of the islands in the Calamian Archipelago. Located north west of Busuanga Island in the province of Palawan, Philippines, it is a animal sanctuary and a tourist destination.
The Calauit Wildlife Safari park is frequented by locals. Its resident animals are actually from Africa and were imported there in the 1970s. It's a move to help save certain African animals from extinction.
Then, the Philippine government selected this island because it has a similar terrain to an African savanna. Several species were imported but only giraffes and zebras survived and are now thriving on the island.
These beautiful animals freely roam more than 3,000 hectares of land. The African animals share the island with some other imported animals and endemic species like the Calamian deer.
There's a section where animals are confined in cages, much like a zoo. However, these animals were rescued from poaching, injury, and abandonment.

WOW! Safari in the Philippines?
We can't believe that there's a Safari in the Philippines with Giraffes and Zebras and other wild animals! The Giraffes were amazing! They were so cute despite their size but they're also snobbish. Check out the video to see what I'm saying.
