Synopsis:
When they ran to save their lives for the first time, they were mere 12-year-old boys, and the world called them 'refugees'.
The war of 1971 gave birth to a new country - Bangladesh. It also gave birth to two young orphans - Bikram and Bala. They witnessed the war and its aftermath, where the world tried to trample over them. Fighting for survival, they clung to each other and escaped to Calcutta.
Before they knew the world, they knew each other. Such was their bond, such was their friendship.
Each time they sought new beginnings, each time they would rise, the world would crush them down. So, they fought again... and again. Together they were unbeatable. They were unstoppable. They were inseparable.
In the years that passed, Bikram and Bala, became Calcutta's most loved, most celebrated, most reckless, most fearless and most powerful GUNDAY!
They had everything... then, one fine day, bells rang...
Nandita, the most beautiful cabaret dancer, walked into their lives, and they lost everything to her. Their murky world turned magical and colourful. They fell head over heels in love with her.
But that was only a blissful lull before an impending storm...
And then entered ACP Satyajeet Sarkar, the right for every wrong, a law for every outlaw and a counter force for Bikram and Bala.
What follows from here is the most sensational-most thrilling-most dramatic story ever told!

Learning BENGALI, The OFFICIAL Language of the State of West Bengal | Kolkata, India
The country of India stole my heart when I first stepped foot on its soil back in February of 2018. I was so blown away by the culture, food, architecture, and people that I knew I had to go back for round two just ten months later in November, this time with my travel buddy, Sam from Samuel & Audrey. We spent 18 days exploring seven different cities and had an incredible experience neither of us will ever forget!

-Welcome to Kolkata
Bengali was very different to the other languages I tried to learn in India. It was kind of mellifluous and seemed to almost have some Latin influences.
So, how did we do in our first Bengali lesson? And if you have any more words or phrases in Bengali you think I should know, please let me know in the comments!

Morning on Howrah Bridge, Calcutta, 2012
Howrah Bridge on Hoogly River, Calcutta is a mythical space. I've been trying to capture its life in photography for a few days. The air was almost impossible to breathe, the noise extreme. About 2 million people cross the brigde daily as well as over 50.000 cars and busses. It's one of the most intense places I've ever been.

PRINSEP GHAT & INDIAN COFFEE HOUSE, KOLKATA
Day 4 still continue after visiting fish market i went to Prinsep Ghat
This monument was built in the year 1843 and is named after James Prinsep, an extraordinarily brilliant researcher and architect, who also served as the honorable Secretary of the Asiatic Society. It was designed by W. Fitzgerald. The monument was restored by the city;s Public Works department in 2001 and is well maintained since. The Vidyadsagar Setu above it adds to its charm all the more.
Bengalis and Kolkatans are by nature romantic. They love to recite Tagore whenever got chance. The Princep Ghat is one of the most romantic places in Kolkata. It is a perfect place for meet up with friends, a great hangout place where you can gossip and chat over phuchkas and bhelpuris. It is a perfect place for catching up with your old friends.
rinsep Ghats (Bengali: প্রিন্সেপ ঘাট) is a ghat built in 1841 during the British Raj, along the Kolkata bank of the Hooghly River in India. The Palladian porch in the memory of the eminent Anglo-Indian scholar and antiquary James Prinsep was designed by W. Fitzgerald and constructed in 1843.
There is a railway station named Princep Ghat. It is a part of the Circular railway track of Kolkata. A journey through this railway track will take you through very beautiful landscapes and is highly recommended. Take a train from Princep Ghat to Bagbazar. You will travel beside the Hooghly river and below the Howrah Bridge. From Bagbazar, you can return back to Baboo ghat by return launch.
s you cross the railway track, you see the serene river welcoming you. You can sit at the ghat and enjoy some tranquil moments. Watching the sunset is an added bonus. A boat ride in the river is also a wonderful experience. With The Howrah Bridge and the Vidyasagar Setu at the backdrop, boat ride through the Hooghly river will definitely leave you wanting for more! Boat rides can be takes from the ghat for Rs.300/- for half an hour. It is surely an experience which must be indulged in.
After visiting prinsep ghat i went to kolkata's very famous coffee house
The history of the Coffee House at College Street can be traced to Albert Hall, which was founded in April 1876.[1] Later, the Coffee Board decided to start a coffee joint from the Albert Hall in 1942. Notable citizens were frequent visitors to the place. In 1947, the Central Government changed the name of the place to Coffee House.[2] The place became a meeting place for the poets, artistes, literati and people from the world of art and culture. In 1958, the management decided to shut down the Coffee House, but it was re-opened the same year, after professors of Presidency College and Calcutta University rushed off a special petition to the government, to save the heritage place. In 2006, a huge financial crunch kept the co-operative society from undertaking renovation of the coffee house. Though a few companies such as Asian Paints approached the society with offers to renovate the restaurant, the offers were refused due to clash of norms and conditions.
Coffee House is a cafe located opposite the Presidency College in College Street, the most famous of Indian Coffee House branches in Kolkata. It has been for a long time a regular hang out and a renowned meeting place (adda) for intellectuals and students (and ex-students) of the Presidency College, University of Calcutta, and other institutions in College Street. It has played an important part in Calcutta's (Kolkata) cultural history and known as the hub of intellectual debates.

Pluses:
As usual typical top class Taj staff service.
We wanted to step out for some local street food and we had our Lobby manager step out till the street to guide us....only at the Taj!!!
Super Breakfast spread
Extremely comfortable rooms and beds
The service here is excellent, we loved our rooms and the delicious breakfasts. There's a very good selection of restaurants catering for different tastes. The gym is pretty good too.
Minuses:
Up keep of rooms
The hotel rooms are looking dated .
The pool area could be better. When we stayed the hotel was carrying out some noisy building work next to the pool making it impossible to use even if we wanted to. It's not very private i.e. Overlooked by the main restaurant and lots of bedrooms so you'd feel like the hotel entertainment should you use the pool!

The Last Anglo-Indian Jockeys Of Kolkata | Unique stories from India
The community brought horse racing to Kolkata. But how much longer will this legacy last?
The Alfords are considered the first family of horse racing in Kolkata. Rutherford Alford was the last in a line of jockeys going back five generations. That is, until a tragic accident on the track in 2006 left him with a spinal injury. Even though he is now unable to ride, the accident hasn't dampened Rutherford's love for the sport. He still visits the track twice a day.
The Anglo-Indian community has been upholding the legacy of horse racing in Kolkata. But many members of the younger generation have moved on to other careers in other countries, following better prospects. Will the next generation of Anglo-Indians in Kolkata continue the family tradition? Only time will tell.
101 Traces looks at the last of anything: ethnic communities, folk craftsmen, disappearing trades, forgotten people. It sketches portraits of these unique individuals, locked in a battle they cannot win: a battle against the future. Together, they represent the dying whispers of ancient heritage and traditional individuality. As India moves towards homogenized global pop culture, 101 Traces honors the people, the objects, and the skills that connect us to our ancient identity.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! team wishes Howrah Bridge a very Happy Birthday - TOI
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! team wishes Howrah Bridge a very Happy Birthday
Dibakar Banerjee’s Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! trailer has got a lot of appreciation and as suggested it does promise to except the unexpected. The makers have yet again stroked an unexpected idea. On the occasion of Howrah Bridge’s birthday, 50 dancers did a flash mob at the Howrah Bridge on the film sound track Calcutta Kiss wishing happy birthday to the bridge, early in the morning. The dancers shook a leg on the song Calcutta Kiss from the film. The bridge was constructed on 3rd Feb 1943 and was never inaugurated due to security issues as the Japanese was on an aerial attack. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! is set in the same time zone as the birth of Howrah Bridge and the team was keen to honor the bridge in their way. And Byomkesh Bakshy being the most iconic character of Calcutta, he wished the bridge a very happy birthday.
