Santorini | Sea Kayaking
An island like Santorini has plenty of scope for water sports, including sea kayaking, which you can enjoy in either the open waters of the east side of the island or in the calmer sea inside the Caldera, or volcano mouth ringed by the spectacular cliffs.
Sea kayaking is an activity that you can enjoy scenery that is not visible by any other means, and in Santorini there are plenty of places especially in the coves of the volcano.

Travel tips for Santorini, Greece:
- The last tender boat back to the ship leaves at 4:30.
- Allow ample travel time for your destinations. You need to drive to the popular sites.
- Plan for big lines to get back onto the ship is bonkers for the cable cars and tenders!
- If you can, get premium disembarking packages. You get two tickets that let’s you disembark before everyone else. This saves you so much time! My tour guide told us her coworker was still waiting for their customers to disembark 1 hour later.
- Book a private tour guide to take us around Santorini. It will save you a lot of time.
- Walk in the REVERSE of all of the ship tours in the mornings and you'll skip all of the crowds.
- It cost 6 euros a person for a one way ticket for the Santorini cable car. Remember to bring some cash as it is cash only. For the best view sit on the right side of the gondola. You'll be facing the ocean instead of a hill.
- AVOID walking on the donkey trail. It's slippery and you can easily fall or get kicked by the donkeys. I also wouldn't ride the donkeys as it's expensive and they look miserable.
- I recommend this tour company:
The good thing is because we booked tours from 3 different cities we got a 10% discount.
Top Things to Do and See in Santorini:
- Oia -
Oia is famous for viewing the sunset. I heard it was beautiful because different colors from the sunset bounce off the white buildings. It must be a romantic place to be.
Oia is such a beautiful place to visit. There’s all these little narrow paths everywhere because it helps reduces the wind and also to protect them from pirate attacks. This way they cannot attack with a huge army but instead are forced to enter one by one because the streets are so narrow.
- Black Sand Kamari Beach -
Santorini is unique because it’s one of the few places where you can visit white, black, and red beaches all on one island. Bring towels or a bathing suit as it's a nice, pretty place to relax and enjoy the ocean.
- Pyrgos -
Pyrgos is a typical example of medieval architecture with narrow, twisty streets, fortified walls and hidden passages. If you want peace and quiet away from all the tourists then this town is a must visit. It was mostly just to see the buildings in a much quieter setting compared to Oia.
- Venesantos Winery -
Because it's so windy on Santorini, the farmers and vineyards grow crops in a unique way…for example, the wine grapes are grown on the ground in bunches rather than on vines.
The wine grapes on Santorini are grown with no irrigation! The vines get all their necessary water from “sea fog” which is a mix of humid ocean air and moisture from the active volcano. I loved their wine so much we bought two bottles.
I wish I could buy more but we didn't have any more room left in our suitcases. But they ship their wines to these places - maybe one day in the future I will find their wines there.

SANTORINI SUNSET BOAT TOUR IN GREECE - SPECTACULAR - MUST WATCH!
SANTORINI SUNSET BOAT TOUR IN GREECE
SANTORINI BOAT TOUR
We decided to take a boat tour in Santorini with transportation and barbecue included. We chose the afternoon tour to be able to enjoy the sunset at sea.
The tour starts at Akrotiri Beach
The blue color of the sea is breathtaking.
Now we are passing the famous Red Beach and the White Beach
Vagelis, the captain, brings me a beer and explains that my name in Greek means putting beer in the glass. We all laugh a lot!
At the top of the cliff we spot a lighthouse.
The white buildings topping the coastline are typical of Santorini.
Now we head towards the volcanic islands of Palea Kameni and Nea Kameni.
Due to the proximity of the volcano, the waters become green and warmer.
We stopped for a swim to enjoy the mild temperature of the sea and have some melons.
As it is already dinner time, we head towards a small deserted beach, where Vagelis’assistant awaits us with wine, salad, fruits and fish barbecue.
We set anchor and take the small inflatable boat to reach the beach.
Santorini has many spots to watch the sunset, all crowded with tourists. On the boat, we could enjoy it peacefully, just by ourselves.

Boat tour of Santorini, Greece
Our first trip to a Greek island was Santorini. The island sits on a volcano and a major fault line in the Aegean Sea. The cliffs are breathtaking. The white buildings you see up top is the city of Thira. This was taken on an excursion to one of the volcanoes and hot springs. -Scotty

Sailing in the caldera of Santorini - Greece

Don't forget to watch in HD (1080p)
A caldera is a large cauldron-like depression that forms following the evacuation of a magma chamber/reservoir. When large volumes of magma are erupted over a short time period, structural support for the crust above the magma chamber is lost. The ground surface then collapses downward into the partially emptied magma chamber, leaving a massive depression at the surface (from one to dozens of kilometers in diameter).

Aphrodite Sunset Boat Tour Santorini
All aboard the Aphrodite Sunset Boat Tour in Santorini, Greece!
We found the bus stop to get picked up for our boat tour. It was only a few blocks away from the Kavalari hotel. It was a short 20min ride from our bus stop to the port of Athinios, the main port in Santoini. We boarded the ship and quickly looked for the best spot on the boat to get a seat. Early bird gets the worm and we didn't want to be stuck in the hot sun so we chose a covered spot on the first floor near the back. Most importantly, it was right next to the bar! Ha!
Our first destination was the famous volcano of Santorini. After 20 minutes of sailing, we reached Nea Kameni’s jetty. We got off the ship and paid the 2.5euro/ per person as an entrance fee to walk to the top. The walk to the top was a bit strenuous as it was very hot and the elevation change that I could feel in my lungs. We stopped to take a few pictures on the way up and to catch our breathe. As we got higher and higher, the view become more spectacular.
As we embarked to the island of Palea Kameni where the famous hot springs are located, we jumped off the ship and right into the Aegean Sea.
Next, we were off to our next location, Thirasia. We pulled into the cove of Ormos Korfou and anchored. We swam and took some GoPro shots before climbing up the ladder and getting rinsed off by the crew. As we dried off and listened to the dinner bell ringing, we grabbed a plate and got in line.
Dinner on Board consisted of a tasteful Greek buffet; pork, chicken, rice, baked potatoes, Greek salad, tzatziki sauce, bread, seasonal fruit and an included glass or local wine. The food was pretty good!
As the warm light cast brilliant shadows along the caldera and surrounding islands golden hour was upon us. Everything looked straight out of a fairy tale. As the sun dives to the sea in the northernmost part of the island, we settled in at a great spot to watch the sunset. This was an unforgettable experience as the Caldera and the village of Oia turned into gold. The tour could've not concluded any better as the sun set and we made our way back to the port.

Europe Cruise. Day 3 Santorini Port 1 - Always Gutom Never Busog Travel & Food Vlogs
On our first port, We docked at the Island of Santorini. Originally named Thira by the greeks, I was later named Santorini by the Venetians. I went on a 4x4 Excursion that was offered by Norwegian Cruise Line. I chose this tour because I wanted to show a different side to the Charming island of Santorini since most tourists just visit the town of Oia and the capital, Fira.
We rode an Open aired 4x4 vehicle and set off to visit a black pebble beach, the unique vineyards and the beautiful panoramic view on the highest point on the Island. After our tour, we were also treated to a scrumptious authentic Greek meal. I will forever remember that awesome experience. So come join me as I explore the hidden beauty of Thira! Enjoy!
