Prince's Island Park is an urban park in the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It is developed on an island on the Bow River, immediately north of downtown Calgary.

Prince's Island Park Calgary - it was named after Peter Anthony Prince, the founder of the Eau Claire Lumber Mill. The park was built on land donated in 1947 to the city by the Prince family. It is often incorrectly referred to as Princess Island Park. The park is open from 5 a.m. until 11p.m. every regular day.
The island has a surface of 20 hectares and is linked by three bridges to Eau Claire and downtown Calgary and a north bridge to Memorial Drive and the community of Crescent Heights. It is part of the pathway and hiking trail system lining both sides of the Bow River. The southern arm of the river has been landscaped, while the eastern end of the island re-creates a wetland environment. Canada geese and mallard ducks are common birds found in the park.

Calgary Neighbourhoods: Elboya
Elboya is one of the prettiest communities in Calgary.
Starting at the Elbow River and stretching south up the side of a large, drawn-out hill, Elboya enjoys a unique topography that boasts views of both the Elbow Valley and the downtown skyline. Now, add to that 100-year-old trees lining the streets, and you’ve got a neighbourhood that feels like Sherwood Forest.
“The inner city is small, and spots like Elboya are always coveted,” says Michael O’Hara, president of the Elboya Community Association. “People target the area because the land can hold its value; plus, with some of the older homes, they can renovate or rebuild to get the home of their dreams.”
In recent years, this trend to buy and rebuild has seen a number of eye-catching new homes pop up. “That’s given the community even more charm,” O’Hara says. It’s easy to see why Elboya is so popular.
The major transportation arteries, Elbow Drive and Macleod Trail, give residents direct access to the downtown, which is only four kilometres away. And the Elbow River park and pathway system provides joggers and walkers with great trails to tackle.

The Bow River pathway is a pathway system developed along the banks of the Bow River in the city of Calgary. It contains a network of pedestrian and bicycle paths connecting parks on both sides of the river.
The Bow River pathway follows the Bow River from west to east, then north to south.
The pathway is used for cycling, hiking, jogging, as well as rollerblading and skateboarding. The paths are connected with a system that extends along the Elbow River and other areas of the city.
The network spans 48 kilometres (30 mi) from Bearspaw Dam to Fish Creek Provincial Park, connecting major parks and green areas in Calgary.
Construction of the Bow River Pathways started in 1975 to mark the city's centenary. The project was funded by the City of Calgary, the Province of Alberta and the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations. It was dedicated on June 25, 1977 (Wikipedia)

Crowchild Trail construction kick-off
On October 29, 2017, The City will begin the first phase of Crowchild Trail upgrades over the Bow River, between Bow Trail and Memorial Drive, and then further along north up to 5 Avenue N.W. These changes will improve travel and mobility along and across Crowchild Trail, while maintaining and enhancing its bordering communities.
This is a two-year, $87 million-dollar project, and once completed, the new Crowchild Trail will manage traffic better over the Bow River, move traffic more efficiently on to and off of Crowchild Trail, and improve connections for people who walk and cycle in the area.
Project Manager Jeff Baird has more details: “It’s a major undertaking because we’re widening the bridge over the Bow River, adding a traffic lane in both directions between Bow Trail and Memorial Drive (and a northbound lane from Memorial Drive to 5 Avenue N.W.), and moving on and off ramps so people driving don’t have to change lanes as quickly. In addition to this work, we’re also adding a couple of pathways and a crossing that will make it easier for people who walk and cycle to connect to The Bow River Pathway system.”
Crowchild Trail is a critical part of Calgary’s transportation network; it sees up to 107,000 vehicles a day, has thousands of people using the pathways below, and communities on either side. “We have to keep this road open while we work because it’s the main north-south link across the west side of Calgary, provides access downtown, and connects to major destinations across the city”,Baird explains.
“For the safety of crews and people travelling in the area, we’re slowing people down through the site, but we’re keeping all the traffic lanes open during weekdays and focusing on more of the road impact work through the night.” Baird adds, “Our team is working to ensure the noisier work is minimized through the night and we’ll be communicating our night schedules to our neighbours and posting it online.”
When pathway closures and detours are necessary, notices will be put in place (Upcoming closure: Crowchild Trail pedestrian bridge closed from Nov. 6 to spring 2018, to accommodate bridge work. People can use Edworthy Park bridge or 14 Street S.W. bridge to cross the Bow River).
The City is grateful for the patience and understanding of the many citizens, communities and area businesses that will be impacted by this construction project over the next two years.
For more information, visit calgary.ca/crowchild.
This project is one of many The City is undertaking that will put people to work. It’s estimated, upwards of 600 jobs will be created through the Crowchild Trail Upgrades projects.
Background
From Feb. 2015 to Dec. 2016, The City of Calgary worked with Calgarians to identify short-, medium-, and long-term upgrades to Crowchild Trail from 24 Avenue N.W. to 17 Avenue S.W., as part of the Council-approved corridor study for Crowchild Trail. On April 24, 2017, funding for the short-term plan from the Crowchild Trail Study was approved by Council.

Calgary Neighbourhoods: Rideau Park
Elbow Park & Glencoe are residential neighbourhoods in the SW quadrant of Calgary. It is one of the oldest and wealthiest areas in the city. It is bordered to the south and east by Elbow River, to the east by Elbow Drive, to the north by Council Way and to the west by 14 Street. Tree lined streets provide an ideal setting for the 20th Century estate homes that predominate in the area, many of which have been completely renovated to restore them to their former glory and incorporate the latest in interior design and finishing.
As long established communities located just a few minutes south of downtown, Elbow Park & Glencoe have easy access to all major amenities. The trendy shopping districts of 4th Street and 17th Avenue include many specialty grocery stores, boutiques, cafes and fine dining offering a variety of cuisines.
In Elbow Park you will find a green space that separates the neighbourhoods and provides opportunities for walks or picnics along the bank of the Elbow River or explore the full extent of Calgary’s river pathway system. Park facilities include a playground, skating rink and tennis courts. The Elbow Park Community Association hosts a number of events in the park.
