Indian museum, kolkata
The Indian Museum, located in Kolkata, West Bengal, is one of the best museums in India. Here is a rare collection of antiques, war materials, jewelry, skeletons, mummies, fossils, and Mughal paintings etc. It was founded by Danish Botanist Dr. Nathaniel Valke in 1814. It is Asia's oldest and largest museum in India.
Shankar International Dolls Museum, Delhi
Shankar International Dolls Museum is located in New Delhi, which was created by Shankar Pillai of the famous cartoonist. Here is a collection of dolls adorned in various garments, which is one of the largest collections in the world. This museum is located in the building of the Children Book Trust on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg. This doll is an interesting story behind the house construction. It is said that when Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister of the country, Shankar was a member of the team of journalists accompanying him. His dolls were deeply interested.
They used to collect different types of dolls from each country. Gradually they got 500 kinds of dolls gathered. So with their cartoons they started displaying these dolls too. There was only one difficulty in the fact that many of them were broken down in carrying the dolls again and again.
Once Nehru visited his exhibition with his daughter Indira Gandhi and he liked them very much. At that time, Shankar told him his problem and Nehru suggested him a permanent home. In this way dolls got a unique house called Doll House to stay. This museum of 5184.5 sq ft contains dolls in more than 160 glass cases.
Calico Museum of Textile, Ahmedabad
Calico Textile Museum is one of India's finest textile museums and it is known for its diverse collection of Indian clothing. In Ahmedabad, this museum was established in 1949 by Shri Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Geera Sarabhai. Not only here, the ancient cloth made during the Mughal era has been displayed in India but it also tells about the progress of the textile industry of different parts of the country. The beautiful Kashmiri Pashmina, carpet and Iqat, which are displayed here, are worth seeing in handloom. Children under 10 years of age are not allowed in this museum.
