EU military police carry out ‘extremely WORRYING’ civil unrest crisis training
A MILITARY police unit have carried out European Union-funded special training, ready to be deployed in the event of civil unrest or war.
The training, which took place in the German North Rhine-Westphalia province was designed to prepare troops as part of the EU’s Lowlands Gendarmerie programme.
Breitbart London reported that the exercise was attended by 600 members of various European police and military forces, in a bid to prepare the united troops of the European Gendarmerie Force.
The military police group is made up of seven European nations, including Spain, Romania, Poland and Germany, and aims to quell post conflict scenarios within EU member states.
Protesters take to streets after Trump rally in California
Scores of protesters took to the streets Thursday night outside a Donald Trump campaign event here, drawing out police officers in riot and tactical gear and on horseback who sought to disperse the crowd.
The crowd gathered in the streets outside the OC Fair & Event Center as Trump addressed several thousand supporters at the Center's amphitheater. At least one police car was damaged and several scuffles broke out amid the hectic scene.
Protesters blocked a main intersection, impeding traffic, and officers with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and Costa Mesa Police Department worked to disperse the crowd, ordering protesters out of the streets.
About 20 people were arrested, the Orange County Sheriff's Department tweeted late Thursday night after the protests had cleared.

Long Beach / Southern California Earthquake - 1933 - CharlieDeanArchives / Archival Footage
The 1933 Long Beach earthquake took place on March 10 at 5:54 P.M. PST with a moment magnitude of 6.4 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of VIII (Severe). The epicenter was offshore, southeast of Long Beach on the Newport–Inglewood Fault. Damage to buildings was widespread throughout Southern California, United States. An estimated forty million dollars' worth of property damage resulted, and 115 people died. Many of these fatalities occurred as people ran out of buildings and were hit by falling debris.
The major damage occurred in the thickly settled district from Long Beach to the industrial section south of Los Angeles, where unfavorable geological conditions (landfill, water-soaked alluvium) combined with poorly constructed buildings to increase the damage. At Long Beach, buildings collapsed, water tanks fell through roofs, and houses were tossed off their foundations. School buildings were among the structures that incurred the most severe damage.
The earthquake highlighted the need for earthquake-resistant design for structures in California. Many school buildings were damaged, with more than 230 school buildings that either were destroyed, suffered major damage, or were judged unsafe to occupy, that the Field Act was passed by the California State Legislature on April 10, 1933. The Field Act mandated that school buildings must be earthquake-resistant. If the earthquake had occurred during school hours, the death toll would have been much higher.

Republicans Turn on Each Other in US House Fight
(6 Jun 2018) Republicans are defending a string of endangered U.S. House seats in California, but one of the toughest fights in Tuesday's primary election involves two of their own.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is being challenged in Southern California's 48th District by a one-time protégé, lawyer Scott Baugh.
Baugh headed the Orange County GOP for a decade and says it's time for change. He says the 70-year-old congressman has ignored the district while emerging as Russia's leading defender on Capitol Hill.
Rohrabacher, seeking a 16th term, calls his rival an unethical lobbyist with questionable conservative values.
Several Democrats are among the top spenders in the race, including businessman Harley Rouda, who's backed by the party's campaign arm in the House, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. But Neuroscientist Hans Keirstead snagged the endorsement from the state Democratic Party.
A worst-case scenario for the Republicans would see no one from the party finish in the top two of the June 5 primary. That would give Democrats a seat that could help tip control of the House in their favor.
The uncertainty is heightened by the state's top-two primary system, in which all candidates appear on a single ballot but only the top two vote-getters regardless of party advance to a November runoff. In crowded, closely matched races, it's possible that only two Republicans advance to the runoff in some districts, or two Democrats.

California Spending on Prisons and Higher Education | Los Angeles Live 10-4-17
LIVE from the Los Angeles Music Center:
California’s public universities and colleges got a bump in funding this year, but so did the state’s prisons. In fact, the percentage of the state budget dedicated to higher education has declined over the past four decades, while the share going toward incarceration has reached an all-time high. Simultaneously, demand for post-secondary education has skyrocketed, and the prison population, at least in the last few years, has plummeted.
Why has California invested so heavily in incarceration while divesting from higher education?
To answer this question, veteran reporter Kim Baldonado ’87 moderates the discussion with expert panelists Robert Birgeneau, Chancellor Emeritus, UC Berkeley; Carol Liu ’63, C.EAS ’82, former California state senator; and Steven Raphael Ph.D. ’96, professor of public policy at UC Berkeley. Our panel will spend 60 minutes in discussion, followed by 20 minutes of Q&A.
