CALLE CRISOLOGO, VIGAN AT NIGHT | A MUST SEE Spanish street in the Philippines
Calle Crisologo has everything you need. It is a long street studded with souvenir shops where you can buy t shirts, magnets, keychains and other woven products made in Ilocos. If antiques are your interest, then come to this place. Along the street are special benches for photo shoots. At night the street transforms into a long lighted street where there are street cafes and specialty restaurants. It is a good time to see the heritage houses and buildings which Vigan is known for. Do not miss this place.
The main attraction and reason for most Travellers to visit Vigan. A Street free of traffic except the horse pulled Callessas. The cobblestone set up and the mostly well maintained Spanish houses give the visitor the feeling to be in the middle of a Spanish town 100 years ago. Most of the houses have souvenir shops on street level.
To have some bistros or outdoor restaurants along the strip would enhance the character.
We walked the street leisurely during daylight. Then had dinner in an adjacent area. On the way back to our hotel it was after sunset. The moon was bright though with some clouds. The scenery was something one expect to see in a movie.

Calle Crisologo Vigan City 2019
We took a short trip in Calle Crisologo on our way home back to Manila from Pagudpud. We were there noontime, it would be better at night. Bought some pasalubong and rode the Kalesa.
Note: If you are in a hurry don't bother getting empanada at Casa Jardin. It is so famous that it has a long cue. It took us 45 minutes to get our order, but it was worth it. The Casa Jardin's emapanada is one of the best.

Why I Love Philippines!
Vlog #1: Calle Crisologo, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
Articles extracted from
Calle Crisologo – Mena Crisologo Street
The major attraction of Vigan City is its mestizo district which is filled with Spanish-style houses that evoke a bygone era when its people lived prosperously because of the Manila-Acapulco maritime trade. For visitors who want to experience being transported back to this period in Philippine Spanish colonial time, a walk or a calesa ride through Vigan City’s Calle Crisologo or Mena Crisologo Street is a must. The tour will take visitors more than a couple of hours and will cost around half a thousand pesos. You will be guided through four blocks of cobblestone streets lined with heritage houses of the families of the Filipino-Chinese traders who rose to prominence during that time of vigorous trading in abel cloth, indigo, gold, tobacco and other goods that were transported to Vigan City from all over the North.
The houses are simple but lovely subjects ready for picture-perfect shots with their roofs of red tiles, thick walls, huge doors and stair cases leading to rooms of high ceilings and sliding capiz shell windows. Having survived the many natural and man-made calamities throughout the centuries, the families who own these treasures have endeavored to maintain them. Visitors can admire more closely the architecture and intricate craftsmanship employed in the grill and wood works when they step inside some of the houses that have been turned into stores and museums. They can even experience staying in a heritage house during their visit as some have been converted into inns.
Though a trip to Calle Crisologo is enjoyable during the day especially because of the opportunity to shop for Vigan’s best products (antiques, abel woven products, bags, basi wine, burnay and dimili products, chicharon, jewelry, sweets, Vigan vinegar and woodcrafts) in the inobtrusive shops located in the ground floor of some of the grand houses, a walk through it is magical at night. Since it is closed to vehicular traffic at any time of the day, the stillness and shadows that come with the night adds more to the 18th century ambience of the lamp-lit street that local and foreign visitors love. Couples can take advantage of this romantic atmosphere by having dinner in one of the old houses that has been converted to a restaurant, like Café Leona, before or after their walk.
For those who want to know something about the person the street is named after, Mena Pecson Crisologo is among the most-respected sons of the Ilokos region. He wrote Mining wenno Ayat ti Kararwa, which many compare to Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere; an Ilocano translation of Don Quixote entitled Don Calixtofaro de la Kota Caballero de la Luna; and a zarzuela entitled Codigo Municipal.

Vigan Tour | Calle Crisologo | 1080p HD
Vigan is a city in the Philippines, on the west coast of Luzon island. It's known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architecture. Calle Crisologo dominates the Mestizo district, with its cobblestone streets, malecón, horse-drawn carriages and rustic mansions. Near the white baroque Vigan Cathedral are Plaza Salcedo, offering fountain light shows, and Plaza Burgos, known for its street-food stalls.

Vigan in Philippines is the capital of Ilocos Sur on the west coast of Luzon island. It's known for its preserved Spanish colonial and Asian architecture. Near the white baroque Vigan Cathedral are Plaza Salcedo, offering fountain light shows, and Plaza Burgos. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
