Walking Around Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva, Florida
To the northeast of Fort Myers, the 768-acre Caloosahatchee Regional Park – which was intended to become a state park – provides an outdoor escape along the Caloosahatchee River. The trail system, while a little tricky to follow in places, includes four short interconnecting trails that make up 3.4 miles of hiking. Bicycles are permitted on many of the trails, and one trail – the Overlook Trail – is wheelchair-accessible. A rustic campground provides a base camp for families to enjoy a weekend tent camping in the tropical wilds near the river.

Mountain Biking Caloosahatchee Regional Park
A day out on my Yeti SB150. Riding some a fun trail system at Caloosahatchee Regional Park. Who says you can't have fun riding a big bike on XC trails?? I had a blast and found this bike to be just as capable as my trail/all mountain bike on these tight and twisty trails.

Caloosahatchee Regional Park Mountain Bike Speed Run - Don November 2012
Youtube is not responsible for any motion sickness induced from watching this video! Seriously though, this is a time-compressed video showing the Caloosahatchee Regional Park's trails located in Alva, Florida (near Fort Myers) for mountain biking enthusaists. As you will see, some parts of the trail are quite technical and difficult to navigate. The video is timelapsed to between 150 and 235% depending on the clip. Sadly Don was not able to capture GPS data from his trip so I was not able to overlay a speedometer/map/compass. Maybe next time. Well see.
Anyways, enjoy.

The Great Caloosahatchee River
The Caloosahatchee River is a river on the southwest Gulf Coast of Florida in the United States, approximately 67 miles long. It drains the rural areas on the north western edge of the Everglades, east of Fort Myers. An important link in the Okeechobee Waterway, a man made inland waterway system of southern Florida, the river forms a tidal estuary along most of its course and has become the subject of efforts to restore and preserve the Everglades.
