Camarillo is a beautiful suburban community just north of Thousand Oaks down the Conejo Grade. The population is just over 65,000, and is known for having perfect weather. Farming is a big part of Camarillo, with some of the land permanently zoned for agricultural use. It was named after the Spanish settler Adolfo Camarillo who owned and operated a cattle ranch for over 68 years, eventually progressing into crop farming. His 6000 square foot, 14-room house is absolutely gorgeous, with an amazing oak tree right out front. Also located in Camarillo is the California State University at Channel Islands, a four-year public university which took over the land at Camarillo State Hospital in the late 1990s. Camarillo has one of California's largest outlet malls which brings in revenue for the city. The largest employer is Wellpoint with over 1000 employees. Camarillo has its own train station and private airport, in addition to multiple country clubs.
