EXPLORING CAMBER CASTLE | EAST SUSSEX
Whilst in Rye Harbour in East Sussex, myself and Andy from Kent Survival visited the impressive remains of Henry VIII's Camber Castle, now a mile or so inland from the sea.
The castle is open very rarely and when it is, it is only open for a certain amount of time and you have to go on a guided tour. It is at least a mile from any roads, so access can be quite tricky. It was worth the walk though!

A device fort built during the reign of Henry VIII, it was originally on the coast, but as the area silted up it is now in the middle of a field!

Weekend Vlog- Rye, Camber Castle and Eltham palace
Another exciting weekend to share with you, I hope that you are liking the weekend vlogs. Rye is a beautiful town to visit with a lot of history, Camber Castle is a few mile walk away from the the town centre and is also close to Winchelsea.

Directions to Camber Castle, Harbour Road, Rye TN36 4JS:
(Do not follow the postcode or address navigation, as it does not take you near the castle)
I recommend taking the A259 New Winchelsea Rd and turn into Sea Road. Before the sharp bend on Sea Road that takes you into a residential area, park somewhere along that stretch of Sea road and walk through the country lane ( Private road) to Camber Castle.

Rye Harbour and Camber Sands
The landscape and atmosphere of Rye Harbour and the River Rother as it exits into the sea at Camber Sands. A magical place to spend an hour or two at any time of the year, watching the horses ride along the beach, the birds on the reserve or the sailing boats out at sea.

Camber castle
Set in the Rye harbour nature reserve between Rye & Winchelsea, Camber castle is a 500 year old fortification. The central tower was built by sir Edward Guldeford between 1512 & 1514. It was built to defend the harbour. In 1539 Henry viii built the remainder of the castle, finishing in 1544. The castle was abandond in 1637 when the river Camber silted up it left the castle high & dry almost 2 miles from the sea. It cost £16,000.00 to build.

Camber Castle Uk
Camber Castle, also known formerly as Winchelsea Castle, is a 16th-century Device Fort, built near Rye by King Henry VIII to protect the Sussex coast of England against French attack. The first fortification on the site was a small, round artillery tower, constructed by Henry between 1512 and 1514, overlooking the Camber anchorage and the entrance to Rye Harbour. In 1539, increasing tensions with France encouraged Henry to rethink his coastal defence plans, and Camber Castle was rebuilt and extended over the next year under the direction of the Moravian engineer, Stefan von Haschenperg.
