The University of Cambridge is a collegiate public research university in Cambridge, England, often University of Cambridge is regarded as one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Founded in 1209 and given royal charter status by King Henry III in 1231, Cambridge is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world's third-oldest surviving university.
University of Cambridge grew out of an association of scholars who left the University of Oxford after a dispute with the townspeople. The two ancient universities share many common features and are often referred to jointly as Oxbridge.
University of Cambridge is formed from a variety of institutions which include 31 constituent colleges and over 100 academic departments organised into six schools. Cambridge University Press, a department of the university, is the world's oldest publishing house and the second-largest university press in the world. The University of Cambridge also operates eight cultural and scientific museums, including the Fitzwilliam Museum, and a botanic garden. Cambridge's libraries hold a total of around 15 million books, eight million of which are in Cambridge University Library, a legal deposit library.
In the year ended 31 July 2016, the University of Cambridge had a total income of £1.64 billion, of which £462 million was from research grants and contracts. The central university and colleges have a combined endowment of around £5.89 billion, the largest of any university outside the United States. The University of Cambridge is closely linked with the development of the high-tech business cluster known as Silicon Fen. University of Cambridge is a member of numerous associations and forms part of the golden triangle of leading English universities and Cambridge University Health Partners, an academic health science centre.
As of 2017, University of Cambridge is ranked the world's fourth best university by three ranking tables and no other institution in the world ranks in the top 10 for as many subjects. University of Cambridge is consistently ranked as the top university in the United Kingdom. The university has educated many notable alumni, including eminent mathematicians, scientists, politicians, lawyers, philosophers, writers, actors, and foreign Heads of State. Ninety-five Nobel laureates, fifteen British prime ministers, five notorious and treachourous spies, and ten Fields medalists have been affiliated with Cambridge as students, faculty, or alumni.

King's College college close fly over, following the river towards castle hill above the various college grounds below - unedited footage
shot at 1080 on a DJI phantom 4
at the end of the video I am on the green mound in front of the most prevalent building in the back so to speak, - maximum distance in this flight I think was no more than 400 meters - perhaps 450
The Backs, Cambridge University Campus, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, United Kingdom
The Backs are an area of parkland, trees, and waterways facing the River Cam and the back of the University of Cambridge Campus in England. The University of Cambridge is the 2nd oldest university in England (and the English-speaking world) after Oxford. It is also the 4th oldest surviving university in the world.
The university is located in the town of Cambridge, England (population about 132,000). There are several other places named Cambridge in the world, notably the towns of Cambridge, Massachusetts and Cambridge in Ontario, Canada. Cambridge is in Cambridgeshire County in southeastern England, northeast of London. The land around it is flat and the lowlying Fens are nearby. The River Cam flows through the town and past the university.
Cambridge is a university town. The town itself isn't very big, but the university attracts lots of students, so that students make up a big percentage of the population. Students make up about 15% of the town's population, and more locals work in the university.
Cambridge University has several big and imposing buildings. The older buildings at the University of Toronto (U of T), Toronto's oldest university, are probably smaller-scale imitations of the buildings at Cambridge and Oxford universities. You can see the rear views of some of these buildings from the Backs.
