New Rating
This was the second time we visited this year and it was great fun. Our 2 year old son really enjoyed all the rides and the staff were very pleasant. The only disappointing part was the Demon Drop slide was closed and we couldn't go down the water slides with two in a boat. Other than that we would definitely recommend it and will be returning soon!

Padstow is a town, civil parish and fishing port on the north coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The town of Padstow is situated on the west bank of the River Camel estuary approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) northwest of Wadebridge, 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Bodmin and 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Newquay.
Traditionally a fishing port, Padstow is now a popular tourist destination. Although some of its former fishing fleet remains, it is mainly a yachting haven on a dramatic coastline with few easily navigable harbours. The influence of restaurateur Rick Stein can be seen in the port, and tourists travel from long distances to eat at his restaurant and cafés.
The LSWR (and Southern Railway) promoted Padstow as a holiday resort; these companies were rivals to the Great Western Railway (which was the larger railway in the West of England). Until 1964, Padstow was served by the Atlantic Coast Express – a direct train service to/from London (Waterloo) – but the station was closed in 1967. The old railway line is now the Camel Trail, a footpath and cycle path which is popular owing to its picturesque route beside the River Camel. One of the railway mileposts is now embedded outside the Shipwright's Arms public house on the Harbour Front. Today, the nearest railway station is at Bodmin Parkway, a few miles south of Bodmin. Plymouth Bus operate buses to the station.
The South West Coast Path runs on both sides of the River Camel estuary and crosses from Padstow to Rock via the Black Tor ferry. The path gives walking access to the coast with Stepper Point and Trevose Head within an easy day's walk of Padstow. The Saints' Way long-distance footpath runs from Padstow to Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall. The Camel Trail cycleway follows the course of the former railway (see above) from Padstow.

Camel Trail Padstow to Wenford Bridge
Filmed with GoPro mounted on handle bar stem
The Camel Trail in North Cornwall
We were staying at Gunvenna Caravan park near Port Isaac, which is a part of Cornwall I have not been to for a long time. We were looking for something to do which would involve the whole family, My wife Sue and myself, Maddy age 6 and Rosie who is just 1 year old. We had read about 'The Camel Trail' in North Cornwall, which is a cycle friendly path made from an old disused railway track. In actual fact The Camel Trail goes from Padstow to Bodmin and also has an extra arm which goes from Bodmin to Wenfordbridge. The distances involved are Padstow to Wadebridge, 5 miles, Wadebridge to Bodmin 6.1 miles and Bodmin to Wenfordbridge 7.1 miles.
Our original intention was that Sue would walk along with Rosie in the pushchair and Maddy and I would hire some bikes. We didn't do this because when we arrived at Padstow Cycle Hire we realised they had every conceivable combination of bike you could wish for. Adult bikes came in the form of hybrids, mountain bikes, tricycles, tandems. Babies and small children could be accommodated in trailers, child seats or 'tagalong' bikes.
We opted for two Claude Butler hybrid adult bikes for Sue and me, mine was pulling a trailer for Rosie. Maddy had a shiny purple Dawes Blowfish child's bike.
We set off from Padstow heading towards Wadebridge, within five minutes we were cycling over a lovely old railway bridge which spans the Little Petherick Creek. The Camel Trail hugs the south side of the River Camel giving lovely views over the estuary towards Rock and the disused quarries on the north bank of The Camel.
Roughly halfway along was a little stall setup based on tricycles, Treats-on-Trikes they were called, where you could buy cups of tea, cold drinks, ice creams and of course Cornish Pasties.
All the way along the Camel Trail people are on bikes, walking and running, but above all everyone seemed to be smiling. It didn't seem too long before we were going under the A39 bridge and Wadebridge was looming. At Wadebridge we could have carried on to Bodmin, but we thought that was probably enough for the time being so we had fish and chips at a restaurant called 'The Glass House' and then headed back.
So there you have it, converting a disused railway into a cycle path is just a brilliant thing to do, it means that there are no steep hills, excellent scenery and no cars.

Pencarrow House & Gardens
Pencarrow House & Gardens is a still privately owned estate, although open to the public, belonging to the Molesworth-St Aubyns family.
The estate dates from the 18th century when politician Sir John Molesworth, 4th baronet, started construction of Pencarrow in the 1760's, which was an extension on to an older house dating from between the late 17th and early 18th centuries on the same site.
However, the gardens and woods are slightly more recent than Pencarrow House. They were made by the 8th baronet, Sir William Molesworth who was also a politician, between 1831 and 1835. It should not be forgot that Pencarrow Gardens contains an astonishing 700 different species of rhododendron!
Pencarrow, however, has been active for much longer than the 18th century. A Medieval wayside cross was found in the estate in 1870 and can still be seen today. Even older, a well preserved Iron Age hillfort is at the entrance to Pencarrow and is passed on the way in to the estate. The hillfort has views over the beautiful North Cornwall countryside towards St Mabyn, Camelford and beyond.
In more recent times, Pencarrow House & Gardens was used as a filming location in Doc Martin. It was also used as a filming location in the film 'Fisherman's Friends'.
Pencarrow House & Gardens is located just outside Washaway, between Wadebridge and Bodmin in North Cornwall.

Hiking the Cornwall Coast Path
Cornwall, a rugged, wind-swept coastal land of myth, magic and legend, has long had an association with pirates, but smuggling became so rife in the early 19th century that in 1822 the HM Coastguard was formed to patrol the coastline. A coast-hugging pathway was created to enable the new coastguards to patrol every cove, inlet and creek. Slowly but surely law and order prevailed, and smuggling decreased. By the beginning of the 20th century there was no longer any need for these foot patrols, and they were abandoned. The coast path, however, lived on. Today it remains one of the UK's most spectacular hiking trails. The Cornwall section of it stretches for almost 500km, and in the summer of 2015, I walked its entire length as part of my research for the fifth edition of the Trailblazer guidebook, Cornwall Coast Path. I was lucky enough to be joined by some of my family along the way; my mum, my brother, my uncle and, for 70 particularly special kilometres, by the bundle of energy that is my five-year-old daughter. The landscape was magical, the air impossibly clean and the camping a whole lot of fun (except when it rained). The book will be out in April 2016 (see trailblazer-guides.com). Until then, here's a little video to whet your appetite...

Did you know, that between Wadebridge and Padstow, there's a special valley that hides a secret... apparently, it's home to a whole host of psychic animals!
Neil and Tina had a great day out at Cornwall's Crealy Adventure Park, where the animal manager Steve revealed that staff believe that many of their animals have special psychic abilities... and we thought we'd put it to the test!
So we've selected a number of upcoming football games that are taking place in Brazil, and asking our special psychic animals to predict the winners!
..and for the final, we've pushed the boat out - see what Cryptic Croc thinks about the overall winner.....
