Camina Balay Nga Bato @ Iloilo
A meal at Camiña Balay Nga Bato is like stepping into a time machine at a dinner table. Not only does one get a serving of authentic heirloom Iloilo cuisine, one is also given a peek into Iloilo’s storied past.
One must try to visit the beautiful stone house when Luth Camiña, the 4th generation owner, is in residence. She is a treasure trove of information and anecdotes about the grand house made of stone.
The 150-year-old house was designed by the first parish priest of Molo, Anselmo Avancena, for Don Fernando Avanceño, who died a holy man healing the sick. It was then passed on from one family to another until it came under the Camiñas family.
Camiña persuaded the clan to open the house to the public. Since then the house has been awarded by the city of Iloilo for best adaptive reuse and it has been designated by the National Museum and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts as an Important Cultural Property.
Camiña Balay Nga Bato is an underrated tourist attraction. I have never even heard of this restaurant before this visit, which was arranged by AirAsia. I’m glad I was able to soak in some culture and history in a place like this old stone house, which is a great place to visit for food, fhistory, and Camiña’s stories of Iloilo.

Camiña Balay nga Bato: Iloilo Attractions | Truelocal Philippines
Camiña Balay nga Bato means ‘house by the river’. Built between 1860 and 1865 in a style we call ‘arquitectura mestiza’, the house is a beautiful example of indigenous Filipino building merged with colonial Spanish influences. Luth and Gerard Camiña, 4th generation owners, spent 10 years renovating Camiña Balay nga Bato into the treasure you see today.

ILOILO | Part 1 - Garin Farm + Miagao Church and Camiña Balay nga Bato
So the day has come for our Iloilo trip. We have arrived at around 10PM and decided to booked in Madielyn's Inn near the Airport for our overnight stay before heading to the City. Gigantes Island was in our itinerary but the weather is not in our favor. PAG-ASA declared a suspension for all small boat trips going to the Island and we had to think a plan B, so we decided to take an Iloilo day tour instead. We rent a van for Php4200 and that's include a driver, so not bad.
Here is the highlights on our day 1. Enjoy the video and please like if you like it and consider subscribing.
If you're traveling to Iloilo and need to rent a van for a day tour, kindly contact kuya Renz thru 09476948183. You can negotiate with him. He is really helpful. You can ask suggestions too.
We are staying in Circle Inn at Iloilo City proper. A walking distance from Iloilo University.
Have you tried Airbnb? Sign up with my link and you will get up to ₱2,200 off your first trip.
