Phlegraean Fields - Naples - Italy
Campi Flegrei, also known as the Phlegraean Fields, is a large 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) wide caldera situated to the west of Naples, Italy. It was declared a regional park in 2003. Lying mostly underwater, the area comprises 24 craters and volcanic edifices. Hydrothermal activity can be observed at Lucrino, Agnano and the town of Pozzuoli. There are also effusive gaseous manifestations in the Solfatara crater, which is known as the mythological home of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan. The area also features bradyseismic phenomena, which are most evident at the temple of Serapis in Pozzuoli. ( source Wikipedia )

Supervolcano Campi Flegrei stirs beneath Naples, Italy and now scientists are worried - TomoNews
NAPLES, ITALY — A supervolcano that last erupted nearly 500 years ago is showing signs of reawakening.
The Campi Flegrei supervolcano lies beneath the Bay of Naples in southern Italy and contains 24 craters along with numerous geysers and vents.
There has been a recent decrease in gas pressure at the supervolcano, which combined with an increase in temperature of the hydrothermal reservoir means the magma may be approaching critical degassing pressure, scientists wrote in the journal Nature on Dec. 20.
That could lead to volatility and even culminate in an eruption.
Campi Flegrei is Italian for “Burning Fields.” The supervolcano is 8 miles wide and sits directly under more than half a million people.
Campi Flegrei spewed ash across Europe for eight consecutive days when it last erupted in 1538.
The Italian government has raised the threat level of the supervolcano from green to yellow, meaning that it now requires scientific monitoring, according to National Geographic.

ROMAN RUINS DIVING IN NAPLES ITALY | Campi Flegrei Diving at The Sunken City of Baia
The most unique scuba diving in Italy that you can do is probably the Roman Ruins diving in the Bay of Naples. Here, you can do the Phlegrean Fields - Campi Flegrei Diving to see the underwater Baia Archeological Park.
The Sunken City of Baia is a submerged archaeological park that once used to be a prominent resort city during Roman times. Throughout the centuries, as the nearby Monte Nuovo (new mountain) rose up, a natural phenomenon occurred that caused the ancient Roman ruins to slowly submerge under shallow waters of the Bay of Naples.
The highlight of this archeological dive is the villa of Emperor Claudius. It was once adorned with mosaic floors, marble statues, and a grand spa complex. A lot of these remnants were preserved under no more than a layer of sand.
The excellent dive center that we used was the Centro Sub Campi Flegrei (the Phlegraean Fields' Diving Center), located in Pozzuoli, Italy.
You can reach Pozzuoli with the regional train from the Stazione di Montesanto in Central Napoli. The journey takes around 40 minutes along the scenic view of the Bay of Naples.

The EGU Committee on Education has organised Geosciences Information For Teachers (GIFT, Workshops since 2003. These are two-and-a-half-day teacher enhancement workshops held in conjunction with EGU's annual General Assembly. There, selected top-level scientists working in the Earth Sciences offer the invited teachers talks centered on a different theme every year.
The main objective of the GIFT workshops is to spread first-hand scientific information to science teachers of primary and secondary schools, significantly shortening the time between discovery and textbook, and to provide the teachers with material that can be directly transported to the classroom. In addition, the full immersion of science teachers in a truly scientific context (EGU General Assemblies) and the direct contact with world-leading geoscientists are expected to stimulate curiosity towards scientific research that the teachers then transmit to their pupils.

CAMPI FLEGREI - ITALY'S SUPERVOLCANO - Looking for Things to Do in Naples? Campi Flegrei is the ideal destination to the west of Naples, Italy. Campi Flegrei is a Supervolcano with a caldera approximately 7 miles across and 24 points at which magma could erupt.
Campi Flegrei last erupted in the 1500s. Mount Agung in Bali is currently in the news due to a potential eruption, however an eruption at Campi Flegrei could be catastrophic, potentially wiping out half of Europe and lowering the global temperature by 4 degrees.
This video covers a trip to Vulcano Solfatara, part of the Campi Flegrei volcanic region. The area appears to be off limits, but after some accidental trespassing on private property, I managed to get up close and personal!

ITALY'S SUPERVOLCANO, 2015
A study of the active and ancient volcanoes of Italy. Starting in Napels, southern Italy, the group toured the excavations at Herculaneum and Pompeii, hiked to the summit of Mount Vesuvius, received an informative behind the scenes visit of the Vesuvian Observatory to understand the volcanic hazards of the area, and learned about the geology of Campi Flegrei by expert, Dr. Paola Petrosino of the University of Naples Federico II. Next stop, Florence, to learn about the history of geothermal energy in the area and tour the geothermal museum in nearby Lardarello. The remainder of the trip was spent in northern Italy and focused on the geology of Sesia Supervolcano in the Italian Alps. The excursion was led by SMU’s Dean James E. Quick and his colleagues from the University of Trieste, who discovered the 280 million‐year‐old ancient volcano. The tectonic collision of slices of Africa with Europe formed Italy and the Balkan Peninsula. The Alps were raised and in the process the Sesia Supervolcano was exposed to its roots, 15 miles in the Earth. Dr. Quick was awarded the Capellini Medal of the Italian Geological Society for his discovery.

CAMPI FLEGREI is an educational movie depicting the complex realty of the volcanic area of Campi Flegrei, near the city of Naples (Italy). Suggestive images from Solfatara crater and Pisciarelli fumaroles act as background to interviews to researchers of Osservatorio Vesuviano - INGV, the institution which carries out the volcanic surveillance of the Neapolitan volcanic areas. Detail on the complex surveillance network and scenes from the surveillance centre are shown in this of UPStrat-MAFA video production which also focused in the strictly interlink between volcanism and the history of the area which was first inhabited by Greek communities and then by Romans.
