【Venice】
Venice is a city in northeastern Italy and the capital of the Veneto region. It is situated on a group of 118 small islands that are separated by canals and linked by over 400 bridges. The islands are located in the shallow Venetian Lagoon, an enclosed bay that lies between the mouths of the Po and the Piave rivers (more exactly between the Brenta and the Sile). In 2018, 260,897 people resided in the Comune di Venezia, of whom around 55,000 live in the historical city of Venice (centro storico). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), which is considered a statistical metropolitan area, with a total population of 2.6 million.
The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century BC. The city was historically the capital of the Republic of Venice for a millennium and more, from 697 to 1797. It was a major financial and maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, and a staging area for the Crusades and the Battle of Lepanto, as well as an important center of commerce—especially silk, grain, and spice, and of art from the 13th century to the end of the 17th. The city-state of Venice is considered to have been the first real international financial center, emerging in the 9th century and reaching its greatest prominence in the 14th century. This made Venice a wealthy city throughout most of its history. After the Napoleonic Wars and the Congress of Vienna, the Republic was annexed by the Austrian Empire, until it became part of the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, following a referendum held as a result of the Third Italian War of Independence.
Venice has been known as La Dominante, La Serenissima, Queen of the Adriatic, City of Water, City of Masks, City of Bridges, The Floating City, and City of Canals. The lagoon and a part of the city are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Parts of Venice are renowned for the beauty of their settings, their architecture, and artwork. Venice is known for several important artistic movements—especially during the Renaissance period—has played an important role in the history of symphonic and operatic music, and is the birthplace of Antonio Vivaldi.
Although the city is facing some challenges (including an excessive number of tourists and problems caused by pollution, tide peaks and cruise ships sailing close to the buildings), Venice remains a very popular tourist destination, a major cultural centre, and has been ranked many times the most beautiful city in the world. It has been described by the Times Online as one of Europe's most romantic cities and by The New York Times as undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man.

The Church of San Zaccaria is a 15th-century former monastic church in central Venice, Italy. It is a large edifice, located in the Campo San Zaccaria, just off the waterfront to the southeast of Piazza San Marco and St Mark's Basilica. It is dedicated to St. Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist.
The first church on the site was founded by Doge Giustiniano Participazio in the early 9th century to house the body of the saint to which it is dedicated, a gift of the Byzantine Emperor Leo V the Armenian, which it contains under the second altar on the right. The remains of various doges are buried in the crypt of the church. The original church was rebuilt in the 1170s (when the present campanile was built) and was replaced by a Gothic church in the 15th century. The remains of this building still stand, as the present church was built beside and not over it.
The present church was built between 1458 and 1515. Antonio Gambello was the original architect, who started the building in the Gothic style, but the upper part of the facade with its arched windows and its columns, and the upper parts of the interior were completed by Mauro Codussi in early Renaissance style seventy years later. The facade is a harmonious Venetian mixture of late-Gothic and Renaissance styles.
The interior of the church has an apse surrounded by an ambulatory lit by tall Gothic windows, a typical feature of Northern European church architecture which is unique in Venice. Nearly every wall is covered with paintings by 17th and 18th century artists. The church houses one of the most famous work by Giovanni Bellini, the San Zaccaria Altarpiece. The walls of the aisles and of the chapels host paintings by other artists including Andrea del Castagno, Palma Vecchio, Tintoretto, Giuseppe Porta, Palma il Giovane, Antonio Vassilacchi, Anthony van Dyck, Andrea Celesti, Antonio Zanchi, Antonio Balestra, Angelo Trevisani and Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo.
The church was originally attached to a Benedictine monastery of nuns also founded by Participazio and various other doges of the family. The nuns of this monastery mostly came from prominent noble families of the city and had a reputation for laxness in their observance of the monastic enclosure. The abbess was usually related to the doge.

Anteprima Home Venice
Dal 23 febbraio al 4 marzo raffica di show per la grande anteprima di Home Venice nella piazza più bella del mondo. Partner dell’evento la Città di Venezia, Vela e Redbull.
Sul palco tra gli altri Furio e gli Ska-J ospiti gli Stellari, Slick Steve & The Gangsters, Onde Beat, The Fireplaces. La società organizzatrice: “A sorpresa durante il carnevale annunceremo i nomi degli headliner”
Il Carnevale di Venezia è una delle ricorrenze più spettacolari al mondo, attira migliaia di turisti ogni anno. Sarà per la magica atmosfera che solo la città lagunare ha il potere di effondere, sarà per la magnifica Piazza San Marco, una location che già di per sé vale il viaggio, sarà per quell’aria di gioia e spensieratezza che si respira: per questi e molti altri motivi è stata scelta da Home Entertainment, in collaborazione con la città di Venezia, Vela e Redbull, per presentare l’anteprima di Home Venice.
Da sabato 23 febbraio fino a lunedì 4 marzo, infatti, la piazza simbolo di Venezia sarà animata da un ricco programma di musica live e dj set, un assaggio del festival Home Venice che si svolgerà dal 12 al 14 luglio al Parco San Giuliano di Mestre. D’altronde questa è stata una scelta naturale, dettata dal cuore. Il legame che la società organizzatrice sente per la città lagunare ha una storia lunga, dalla costante collaborazione con l’Hard Rock Cafe con live e eventi ogni settimana, alla scelta dell’autore del logo dello stesso festival, il veneziano Sebastiano Girardi.
Ed eccoci allora alla prima grande anteprima di Home Venice. Si parte sabato 23 febbraio, una serata in collaborazione con Hard Rock Cafe Venezia, alle 18 con il dj set di Roberto Meneghello che prepara il terreno agli Onde Beat, i cinque ragazzi trevigiani che rappresentano il meglio del beat italiano dei ruggenti anni ’60. Domenica sono i dj Detroit Soul e Michele Buran ad aprire la serata alle ore 17.30, a seguire il live dei Killer Queen, la tribute band ufficiale dei Queen in Italia con alle spalle migliaia di spettacoli. Lunedì, sempre dalle 17.30, alla consolle troviamo Alberto Miani, e poi sferzate di pura allegria e colore con i Mariachi Peralta, un gruppo di musicisti internazionali che promuove la musica tradizionale messicana per tutta l’Italia. Martedì 26 è il repertorio del dj Tuny Rubber a riscaldare l’atmosfera, e dalle 18.30 la festa continua con la migliore musica pop dance degli anni Ottanta e Novanta con le OndeRadioLive; mercoledì spazio all’elettronica con contaminazioni jazz e funk a cura di Michael Salamon, già dj resident di The Club di Palazzina Grassi, e dalle 18.30 a scatenare il pubblico ci pensano i Fireplaces con il loro show energico e dinamico che celebra il loro amore per la musica d’oltreoceano. Il 28 si festeggia il giovedì grasso alla consolle dalle 17.30 con il dj set di Raphael Delaghetto e poi, dalle 19.30 lo show imperdibile di Slick Steve&The Gangsters, una miscela esplosiva di arte, sonorità vintage e moderne, swing, rock’n roll e performance circensi, dalla magia alla giocoleria che mozzano il fiato. Venerdì 1 marzo tocca al dj set di Neva Doric ad aprire la serata alle ore 18, mentre dalle 19.30 gran tuffo nei magici anni Ottanta con la musica della Spazio Zero Band. Weekend in fiamme, sabato dalle 17.30 sarà Pongo assieme alla nota dj e producer OYADI ad accogliere il pubblico, e dalle 19.30 grande live con l’immancabile artista veneziano Marco Forieri, meglio noto come Furio, ex cantante dei Pitura Freska e dal 2002 scatenato frontman degli Ska-j, che per l’evento si esibisce con Gli Stellari e il loro energico sound afroamericano. Domenica 3 marzo, la seconda serata in collaborazione con Hard Rock Cafe Venezia, dalle 19.30 alle 21 è a tutto folk con il cantautore Damien McFly, mentre dalle ore 21 alle 22 protagonista è Dj Christian Effe, il dj di punta dell’Home Rock Bar. Lunedì 4 marzo, ultimo giorno della kermesse carnevalesca targata “Home Venice”, alla consolle è chiamato dj Danielino, seguito dalla band-orchestra The Take off che farà ballare la piazza più bella del mondo col loro mix di swing, boogie woogie e rock&roll.
