Welcome To The Channel, The Canadian Firefighters Museum Closes
Welcome to my second channel, where I'll be uploading videos, blogs, and Sein Kim Explorer clips. Most of the stuff here will also be on the Sein Kim Official channel.
The Canadian Firefighters Museum is closed starting this month because the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) is closing it because barely anyone comes to the place anymore, and across the river, they're removing radioactive waste to a place a few kilometres away from where I live, out in the countryside in sealed containers. There's a big chance the place won't be open even after the removal happens. Plus, the only people who show up around there are people who play Pokémon GO, fish, or head to the beach nearby.

ABOUT THIS FEED:
Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada, in the Canadian Rockies, is located on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), where their Shuswap Sub meets their Mountain Sub. The Shuswap Sub runs to the west to Kamloops, BC (towards Vancouver, BC), and the Mountain Sub runs to the east to Field, BC, through Rogers Pass.
The CP traverses the Canadian Rockies over 2 passes. Rogers Pass, which is to the immediate east of Revelstoke, and further east, Kicking Horse Pass, which is to the immediate east of Field. Rogers Pass is at 4,360 feet (1,330 meters), and Kicking Horse Pass is at 5,339 feet (1,627 meters). To the west of Revelstoke is the lower Eagle Pass, at 1,804 feet (550 meters).
Among the freight trains seen here are unit potash, unit grain, and unit coal. Loaded westbounds feature both mid-train and end-of-train DPU’s, and empty eastbounds have fewer engines, both on front and as DPU’s. Many but not all eastbounds will stop to enter the yard, which is located to the east of the museum and cameras. Also seen are manifests, intermodal, and combined intermodal/manifest..
On occasion, the gates will activate, but will soon after deactivate, with no train, which is due to the switcher in the yard proceeding far forward enough to enter the crossing's track circuit.
There are no VIA Rail passenger trains through Revelstoke, however, during part of the year the Rocky Mountaineer can be seen.
There are 2 ATCS layouts, one for each sub, but there is no server coverage. No radio feeds are available.
There’s no schedule for freight trains, but some of our more knowledgeable members will provide real-time information when it’s available. Please refrain from asking.

Canada Day (French: Fête du Canada) is the national day of Canada. A federal statutory holiday, it celebrates the anniversary of July 1, 1867, the effective date of the Constitution Act, 1867 (then called the British North America Act, 1867), which united the three separate colonies of the Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a single Dominion within the British Empire called Canada.

My 10 Most Disappointing Weapons...
Highland Warriors, at the Canadian War Museum
From the fierce Gaelic warriors of medieval Scotland to the proud traditions of Canada’s Highland regiments today, trace the history and culture of an enduring military icon.
In this video I talk about swords and other things I've encountered over the years that have failed to impress. Not all of these were inherently bad. Sometimes it was bad lack with an unusually negative personal experience (a lemon, perhaps?), sometimes it was something that simply didn't live up to my expectations for one reason or another. Either way I hope you find this entertaining. :)

Canada's War on Weed
With a reported value of over six billion dollars, it's no secret that marijuana in British Columbia is big business. However, due to the recent legalization of weed in Washington and Colorado, the draconian crime laws pushed forward by the Canadian Conservative government's omnibus crime bill, and recent changes to medical marijuana regulations, the entire industry is suddenly facing an identity crisis. VICE Canada went west to talk to the people directly affected by these recent events: from the legalization activists and the large and small scale growers, to the illegal traffickers and law enforcement, we talked to the people on the front lines of the battle for control over one of Canada's most undervalued resource.

Fire Ants vs. Bird-Eater Tarantula
Fire ants vs. Bird-Eater Tarantula: It sounds like the battle of the century, right? Well, this video is not what you're thinking. In fact, what happened when two fierce creatures come face to face will astound you, and to the best of my knowledge, I'm certain nothing like this has ever been filmed before! You will see what I mean by the end of this video. Both sides put up a fight and the entire situation shook up the entire Antiverse (my Ant Room). Even I was left scarred from the ordeal! Join us for this educational and amazing exploration of how our massive fire ant colony, called the Fire Nation, deals with Imelda, my 8-inch legspan Bird-Eater Tarantula placed into their terrarium.

JUNGLE vs. FIRE ANTS! OMG! Fire ants are on a whole different level! They are a force to reckon with in the ecosystems they belong to, are super aggressive and sting, and can even float on water! They are the true kings (or queens rather) of the jungle! Join me as I recreate the fire ant motherland, the Amazon rain forest, in a massive South American biotope paludarium, complete with flowing river and both native Amazonian plants and creatures, in order to provide a new and fitting home for our ravenous and aggressive Fire Nation (red tropical fire ants). Watch how we put this incredible half terrarium-half aquarium habitat together! How will our fire ants deal with the move into this new home? Hope you enjoy this week's episode and debut of the Selva de Fuego!
*Correction: I discovered after creating this video that the Assassin Snail (Clea helena) is actually native to Southeast Asia, not South America, so I will be swapping it out with a Channeled Apple Snail (Pomacea canaliculata), which is native to South America.

Historic Sandon, Ghost Town, BC, Canada
A ghost town with a story to tell, located in southern BC, Canada.
Janer B and I took a road trip through southern BC, Canada in May 2012. One of the places I always love to visit is Sandon, a historic mining town located in the Selkirk mountains, approximately 10km east of New Denver.
In 1891, vast deposits of galena ore were discovered here by Eli Carpenter and Jack Seaton. Swarms of prospectors from all over north America rushed in to the valley to stake their claims. In short order, Sandon came to be known as the Monte Carlo of the north, capital of the silvery Slocan. Upwards of five thousand people called Sandon home in the late 1800's. Today, the population numbers but a few hardy souls.
Due to the almost instant prosperity, Sandon quickly became a community with the most modern of conveniences. There were twenty nine hotels, twenty eight saloons, theatres and stores along with the factories and mills to process the ore; there was even a bowling alley and a cigar factory along with a school, hospital, curling rink and a sawmill. A number of churches did their best to police the predominantly male population, as they frolicked amongst certain ladies who were also attracted by ready cash.
Electricity was quickly supplementing candlelight and other forms of power and with their prosperity and abundant water, Sandonites saw no reason why they should miss out on this new state of the art power source. Sandon was the first settlement in British Columbia to become entirely electrified. Ample water supplied from high in the mountains was directed through pipework in to Pelton wheel turbines; over the years, eight separate hydro generating stations were built. Originating in 1897 the Silversmith station (in the video) was the finest generating station built in Sandon and continues to to supply A.C. power to the north American grid. The Silversmith Power and Light Corporation, based in New Denver, has an excellent description of the powerhouse and associated equipment here:
The danger of fire was ever present in Sandon as most of the buildings were made of wood and built back to back in the narrow valley. By 1897, countermeasures were in place to deal with fire in the event of an outbreak; a large fire hall was built and a number of fire-fighting sheds, containing hose reels, axes and buckets, etc., were erected at suitable locations in the community. The inevitable happened: on May 30th 1900, Spencer's opera house presented The Bitter Atonement. Just after midnight, fire was spotted in the adjoining lot and quickly spread. Despite the townsfolk's best efforts and that of the fire department, the downtown core was razed. Ironically, due to wind direction, the red light district escaped the blaze. The upper gulch was spared due to the detonation of a wagon load of dynamite, which created a fire break. Despite losses, which were estimated at $750,000, rebuilding proceeded apace. Destroyed buildings were rebuilt, although perhaps not to the original lavish standard, particularly in the case of the new Reco Hotel. The boom years were over however, as miners were enticed away to the Klondike and metal prices slumped; recent labour strife didn't help and the town never regained it's original size or vigour.
Ironically, despite the many benefits of numerous gushing mountain streams, including the new fangled hydroelectric power, it was water in combination with the giant tortuous flume, that finally undid the town. Since Sandon's inception, Carpenter and Sandon creeks flowed through and around the town and following incorporation in 1898, the council opted to contain their path on a route directly through town. Rectangular in cross section, the flume was basically a giant wooden pipe designed to tame the two creeks. Once built, the former stream beds were filled in and levelled adding inventory to a booming real estate market. After the 1900 fire the planked over flume was designated Main street and with it's restrictive size and plank road above, as well as a couple of twists and turns, became another accident waiting to happen. Annual spring thaw must have been an anxious time, especially if the run off was compounded with heavy rain. In 1933 a landslide upstream Sandon creek added considerably to the seasonal debris and quickly plugged the flume. Water was everywhere and when it finally subsided, left the settlement with washed out gullies and rocky debris all around. In 1955 the ageing flume plugged one more time and another major washout caused the thirty or so remaining residents to give up hope of rebuilding.

Maurine Karagianis - Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum
My community of Esquimalt has a long and proud naval and military tradition, and that pride is on display at CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum.
Located in 19th century buildings at NADEN on Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt, this museum informs and educates with displays and exhibits telling the remarkable story of Canada's naval presence on the west coast right from 1848, when Esquimalt Harbour began to be used as an anchorage.
The museum is part of a national historical district and traces the ups and downs of the Canadian navy with a series of exhibits from the navy's formation in 1910 through the turbulence of two world wars, the conflict in Korea and beyond.
It tells the story of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service and the challenges of defending Canada's west coast. The museum represents the proud heritage of the Canadian Women's Army Corps, which had its beginnings at the Esquimalt base in 1941. Nearly 22,000 women served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps in the Second World War, paving the way for future generations of Canadian servicewomen and bringing the issues about equality to the forefront.
As well as exhibits and displays, CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum houses an expanding archive and library that includes thousands of photographs, documents, histories of Canadian naval vessels, navigational charts, biographies of important leaders in the Royal Canadian Navy and much, much more.
The museum has grown in size and scope thanks to the tireless and dedicated efforts of its staff and volunteers. I hope the members here will join me in acknowledging the importance of their work and thank them for their contribution in celebrating our proud military and naval history.
I sincerely hope that members will take the advantage to go to the museum and view the things that they have on display there.

Mynarski Lancaster Bomber - pure sound!
Planes Trains & Other Cool Stuff
Mynarski Lancaster bomber - pure sound. Taxi, takeoff, flybys, landing and taxi, Aug 2010. The second of my Mynarski Lancaster videos. Footage from a very quiet spot in the middle of the airport. Truly amazing sound with no crowds or music, just the sound of those four Packard Merlin 224 engines. Sounds wonderful with good headphones.
From the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum website:
The Museum's Lancaster Mk. X was built at Victory Aircraft, Malton in July 1945 and was later converted to a RCAF 10MR configuration. In 1952, it suffered a serious accident and received a replacement wing centre section from a Lancaster that had flown in combat over Germany. It served as a maritime patrol aircraft, with No. 405 Squadron, Greenwood, NS and No. 107 Rescue Unit, Torbay, Newfoundland for many years and was retired from the RCAF in late 1963. With help from the Sulley Foundation in 1977, it was acquired from the Royal Canadian Legion in Goderich, Ontario, where it had been on outside display. Eleven years passed before it was completely restored and flew again on September 24, 1988. The Lancaster is dedicated to the memory of P/O Andrew Mynarski and is referred to as the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster. It is painted in the colours of his aircraft KB726 -- VR-A, which flew with RCAF No. 419 (Moose) Squadron. Andrew Mynarski won the Victoria Cross, the Commonwealth's highest award for gallantry, on June 13, 1944, when his Lancaster was shot down in flames, by a German night fighter. As the bomber fell, he attempted to free the tail gunner trapped in the rear turret of the blazing and out of control aircraft. The tail gunner miraculously survived the crash and lived to tell the story, but sadly Andrew Mynarski died from his severe burns.
Sadly its only 5 minutes in duration. A special thank you to the Calgary Fire Dept Stn 13 for making this rare 'pure sound' opportunity possible, otherwise near impossible. I hope students of history will appreciate this footage and what it represents.
