A trip to Canadian World, an Anne of Green Gables themed theme park in September 2013. The park opened in 1993, making this its 20th (and perhaps final) year of operation.

This is a little tourist trap that seems to have lost its appeal or something -- there was almost no one there! Since Ashibetsu (Hokkaido, Japan) and Charlottetown (PEI, Canada) are sister cities, it is like a miniature version of Anne of Green Gables' town.

「赤毛のアン」の舞台となった、プリンス・エドワード島をモチーフとして開園していたテーマパークです。
開園は88’でしたが、97'には経営不振により閉園した。
99'には「芦別市営カナディアンワールド公園」として、無料公園として開放されている。

Eri Muraoka - Japan, Canada, & Me!
Eri Muraoka's grandmother Hanako Muraoka wrote the first Japanese translation of Anne of Green Gables, the beloved Canadian novel. After it was published in 1952, the story quickly became popular in post-war Japan, where it remains so to this day.
Eri Muraoka wrote a biography of her grandmother who was schooled by Canadian missionaries and overcame many obstacles throughout her life culminating in her translation which has brought Canada and Japan closer together. This biography was the basis of an NHK serialized drama which aired in 2014.

Jigoku Valley (Hello Valley) in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido Japan
The most impressive scene at Noboribetsu hot spring is the Jigoku Valley (Hell Valley), where yellowy gray volcanic gas seeps from the surface of the rocks. This makes the whole place smell strongly of sulfur, and gives it an image like that of hell. The valley is a 450-meter-diameter mouth of a volcano, which produces 3,000 liters of hot water per minute.
