How to Get to Playa del Carmen from the Cancun Airport ✈️
Learn the best and cheapest ways to get to Playa del Carmen from the Cancun Internation Airport and back. We explore options by ADO bus, shuttle, taxi, and rental car.
For about $10 USD you can take a bus to Playa del Carmen. You can pay in dollars, but take our advice and get the best rate possible. The bus ride is about an hour and ten minutes. A taxi ride is faster, but a little more expensive. If you want the most freedom, you can rent a car, but this certainly isn't the cheapest option.

Cancun Airport What To Expect
Here are some scenes from Terminal 3 at Cancun International Airport. The only real advice I give has to do with the Timeshare Shark Tank. The rest is mostly just showing you what it looks like.
What To Expect At Cancun Airport
Tips for getting through Cancun airport immigration and customs efficiently, learn what scams to avoid, how to find transportation to your resort and important tips for your return trip home.
All visitors must have an immigration form. Generally these forms are passed out by flight attendants. We recommend that you fill out your form online prior to your departure at:
MAKE SURE...you print this form so you can present it with your passport. Immigration officials will return part of this form to you. This tourist card MUST be kept with your passport and turned in prior to boarding your return flight home.

Go past the timeshare sharks!
How to get around Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum.
In this video I go over all the basic information needed when taking public transportation in Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum.
Taking public transportation in a foreign city can seem scary but it's truly easy and a much more affordable option. While taking taxis will go directly to your destination it will be much more expensive
When arriving at the Cancun International Airport you have three transit options to choose from.
1st - You can take the ADO bus. The ADO is a large, comfortable and hassle free way to get out of the airport. Currently it cost less then 100 pesos to get from the Cancun International Airport to downtown Cancun and just over 200 pesos to get from the Cancun International Airport to 5th Avenue (Playa Del Carmen). From there you can transfer and take the ADO bus to Tulum.
2nd - You can take a taxi. A taxi from the Cancun Airport to downtown Cancun or the Hotel Zone currently cost you 300-400 pesos per ride. Be sure to ask the locals what the current rate should be before getting into a taxi.
3rd - Booking a private shuttle. If you’re traveling in a group of 3 or more this will likely be the most affordable option. Book it before arriving.
As tourist the only two Cancun buses you need to be aware of is the R-1 and R-2 bus. They travel between the Hotel Zone, Downtown Cancun and the ferry terminals.
Now when traveling in Playa Del Carmen or Tulum taking a colectivo will be the most budget friendly option. A colectivo is a small minivan that works as a bus. The colectivo will have the final destination (and sometimes other major stops) on the front of their windshield. The colectivo that travels between Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum will stop at any point along the way, just be sure to sit near the drive and let them know where you want to get off.

Going downtown Cancun by bus - Must Watch ✔
Hola! Today Jennifer and I went downtown Cancun and walked the local street to have an authentic feel of how the local people live. We took the city bus from our resort which costed only 10.5 peso per person. Our first stop was Plaza 28 and then we walked a couple minutes more to get to Market 28. The local people were super friendly and helpful. Don't be surprised if many vendors call you and pitch to you in an attempt to get you into their shops as you walk by (nearly 100% of the time).

Cancun Buses
Taking the bus in another country can seem like a daunting task, but is actually quite easy and is an affordable option for getting around. While taxis are a more direct route, they are much more expensive.
Taking the bus offers an easy, affordable way to get around as well as a inexpensive tour of Cancun. There are several routes which are easily posting the front window of the buses. R-1 and R-2 run from the hotel zone to downtown Cancun and the ferry terminals. You can easily transfer to alternate routes once you reach downtown. The buses also will note some major stops on the front window such as Walmart, Puerto Juarez, or Mercado 28.
Fair at time of video being published is $10.50 (pesos), and can easily be checked at the front desk of any hotel or by asking the driver. You will get a better deal if paying in pesos vs dollars.
Quick tips:
Have your money ready
Move quickly once the bus stops
Get off quickly
Paying once allows you to ride the bus the whole length of the route. Use this as a cheap tour of the city.
Cheapest Ferry to Isla Mujeres departs from Puerto Juarez (last stop on R-1). Be sure the bus list Puerto Juarez as a stop. The ferry from Puerto Juarez is the shortest water travel time and costs ~1/2 of the other terminals.
