Fly fishing and light tackle in Cancun
For more info about this activity visit
Cancun is famous for its water sports, beaches and deep sea fishing but not many visitors know that the fly fishing and light tackle fishing in Cancun is outstanding. Cancun and its surrounding lagoon system are large bodies of water with tranquil saltwater flats that are home to tarpon, snook, bonefish and even the elusive permit. Enjoy the thrill of battling a tarpon, catching an elusive bonefish or snook, or enjoy a lifetime of bragging rights by catching a permit. The lagoons alone are worth visiting with their mangrove channels, variety of bird species, and tranquil waters. All the tours are handled by expert fishing guides who are insanely passionate about fishing.
The fly fishing tours are taken on either a 17 foot Maverick Mirage or on a Hughes Redfisher that can hold either two adults or one adult and two children . Those interested in light tackle fishing will fish off of an 18.2 foot Redfisher that has room for three fisherman and a guide.
For all fly fishing tours they use top of the line G-Loomis and Sage Rods with Tibor or Bauer reels. Floating lines for the flats and sinking lines are used for the channels. For light tackle they have Shimano reels and the rods are Ugly Sticks by Shakespeare and Extreme Graphite fast action Basspro rods.
Take a day off of the beach, head into mother nature and catch a tarpon, snook, bonefish or permit to complete your vacation.
Trip To Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico (Robb & Bry)
Over this last weekend (Presidents' Day), we skipped town for some fun in the (mostly) sun in the Yucatan where we visited Mayan ruins (Tulum) two water parks (Wet 'n' Wild with their oceanside Dolphin Experience and the excellent Xel-Ha with it's caves and snorkling), went on a jungle adventure through the mangroves in our own boat and drank far too many pina coladas. Our hotel was the Oasis Palm Beach in the north part of the hotel zone (not bad for the price). Iguanas and seabirds abounded -- the first two you see were right by the hotel, as was the mini-Chichen Itza. Music is by Katrina and the Waves -- Mexico. Enjoy!
From Robb McCaffree & Bryan Harrison.

Sunset Marina Resort and Yacht Club, Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico
Sunset Lagoon Hotel and Marina is a hidden jewel in a central location on the lagoon side of the Cancun Hotel Zone. This private, quiet resort is perfect for travelers who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of noisier, more frantic locations. Families will have a great time here, too, because there's a great entertainment staff and tons of activities.
The Admiral Yacht Club and Club Lagoon is right next door to the resort. This water sports facility provides guests with the ideal amenities to enjoy this unique natural setting. For an exciting, fast-paced adventure, jet through the lagoon and out to the natural protected coral reserve in the Caribbean Sea. Rent a yacht for a day and enjoy Caribbean fishing at its finest or take a private cruise to the superb beach on Isla Mujeres. If you like your excitement up close and personal, take the Hummer Jungle Tour. Deep Sea Fishing in Cancun
We had a great time on our first deep sea fishing trip!

Isla Activites in the water
Isla Mujeres has long been a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. With beautiful white sand beaches, crystal clear turquoise waters, magnificent reefs near-by and challenging deep-sea fishing, Isla has something for everyone. Explore the natural wonders of the Mexican Caribbean.
The Beaches of Isla Mujeres
There are beaches all around Isla Mujeres. The major beaches are on the north and west sides of Isla. Calm, turquoise waters and soft white sand make them ideal for sunning, swimming and snorkeling. The spectacular and rocky eastern shore is too dangerous for swimming, the currents are very strong on the Caribbean side. There are posted warnings, but accidents can happen so please be careful and always supervise your children.
Playa Norte (North Beach) is considered one of the best beaches in the Caribbean and it deserves the honor. The soft white sand, palm trees and water so blue the sky looks pale, make it the perfect place to relax and unwind from the rigors of life. There is almost no current and you can wade out very far with the water still only coming to your waist.
In front of the hotels on Playa Norte there are beach bars offer lounge chairs and umbrellas (for a fee) with waiter service on the sand. You can also rent water toys, kayaks and snorkeling gear.
Playa Posada, which runs along west side of town, is usually less crowed than Playa Norte but the water is not as shallow and clear.
Playa Media Luna is a small, beautiful, curved beach just around the eastern bend of Playa Norte. There are no beach services and it is too dangerous for swimming because of the strong currents there.
Playa Paraiso, Playa Lancheros and Playa Indios
These more secluded beaches are located on the west side of Isla Mujeres facing Cancun, mid-island near Hacienda Mundaca. There are open air palapa restaurants, gift shops, bathrooms, chairs and umbrellas. You can also rent kayaks, canoes and even beach toys for the kids.
Garrafón Reef Park
The Park is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm and offers several packages including an all-inclusive package which includes a buffet lunch, beverages with open bar, snorkel equipment, life jackets, kayaks, hammocks, an infinity pool, bathrooms, showers and lockers as well as admission to Punta Sur and the Sculpture Garden.
Garrafón de Castilla
Located next to Garrafón Reed Park at the south end of the island. The entrance fee includes use of lounge and beach chairs with beach umbrellas, restrooms and shower facilities. Snorkel gear, lockers and towels are available for an additional cost. There is also a small restaurant/snack bar.
Cancun Watersports
In, above, and below the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, youll enjoy some of the worlds finest beaches and most exciting watersports. In all, 14 miles of white-powder sand make up the Cancun beachfront and are ideal for sunning, windsurfing, parasailing or swimming.

Cancun, Mexico
I have always enjoyed visiting Cancun for the crystal blue water of the Caribbean Sea. I have yet to find a water more blue. The water sports are amazing including deep sea fishing, windsurfing, parasailing and jet skiing. I venture out of the hotel zone to visit Marcado 21 (an indoor/outdoor shopping market) and I always enjoy playing golf at Iberostars Cancun Golf Club.
