During the First World War when there was a large military camp at Cannock Chase which became the base for the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. There was also a prisoner-of-war hospital with 1,000 beds, and both camp and hospital used the burial ground.
Cannock Chase War Cemetery contains 97 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, most of them New Zealanders, and 286 German burials. There are also three burials of the Second World War. The 58 German burials in Plot 4 were all brought into the cemetery in 1963, as part of the German Government's policy to remove all graves situated in cemeteries or war graves plots not maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

I read about this cemetery in an amazing novel called The Eagle has landed by the brilliant author Jack Higgins, some of you may have seen the movie staring Michael Caine and Donald Sutherland. I knew right away that I was gonna have to check this out.
This was opened in 1967 and the bodies of 4925 German servicemen where transfered here, this is in a huge park called Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England. Not one of my most exiting videos but I do find these kind of places very interesting.
Thanks for watching, Enjoy Folks!

Cannock Chase - Regional Odyssey - Midland Memories.
Midlands Memories - Staffordshire.
First featured on this video the once rural town of Cannock followed by the surrounding area known generally as the Cannock Chase district.
Starting with the Floral Festival and the Queen's Silver jubilee celebrations in 1977.
The odyssey goes back in time to the dim and distant past and yet it was only yesterday!
A Cannock Chase Odyssey is part of the 'Midland Memories Series'. This video is like an odyssey through time and the history of an area forming part of South Staffordshire in the central UK. Most of the area covered has changed almost beyond recognition but will be recalled by those of a certain age who treasure such memories. Once upon a time we were basically all rural peasants, living and working upon the land according to the rhythms and moods of Mother Nature. We look back as on a lost Elysium with small close communities shaped by the the landscape and topography.
Cannock Chase communities however, were founded mainly on the coal seams that happened to surface near by and so easy to mine. Now even that has passed by into history over the last thirty years or so. Mining was a dirty dangerous business, however the strong sense of bonding among the miners and their families facing a common danger is something rarely encountered today. Life has become easier certainly but not necessarily simpler or happier.
Cannock Chase also bears the now fading scars of two world wars. In this video we visit some of the camps that were set up to train the brave soldiers and airmen due to be sent away to a very uncertain future, this was in order to protect our future!
We can't live in the past, but that does not mean that we should not respect our past and our history. Some of us will nevertheless yearn hopelessly for what has been lost.
Enjoy this video in whatever way you can.

The dense woodland of Cannock Chase has often been said to be one of Britain’s most active paranormal hotspots – most famously for its werewolf sightings. The Werewolf of Cannock Chase apparently appears on the outskirts of Stafford near the German War Cemetery with reports from people spotting a wolf-type creature walking on its hind legs. In recent years there have been a high number of pet disappearances around the cemetery and many animal mutilations have taken place over the past decade (mainly deer).
There have also been reports of UFO and ghost sightings from residents in the area.
Covering almost 30 square miles, it's no wonder that Cannock Chase feature some of the most bizarre and intriguing tales of the paranormal in Staffordshire. From alleged encounters with werewolves (more than 20 reported sightings in the last 10 years), UFOs , and phantom shadow people to the more recent spate of black eyed children, Cannock Chase seems to have it all.
A beautiful location for a walk during the day turns into something far more sinister when the sun goes down.
Last year, I was contacted by more than 30 people claiming to have witnessed terrifying incidents that cannot be explained…
Cannock Chase is the home of the legendary Black Eyed Girl.
She was recently seen for the first time in over 30 years and reportedly has black coal pit sockets for eyes. She is thought to be the victim of a diptheria outbreak in the 1800s.
While there have been random sightings of Black Eyed Children around the world, Cannock is the only place where they consistently happen in the daytime.

On 16 October 1959, an agreement was concluded by the governments of the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany concerning the future care of the graves of German nationals who lost their lives in the United Kingdom during the two World Wars. The agreement provided for the transfer to a central cemetery in the United Kingdom of all graves which were not situated in cemeteries and plots of Commonwealth war graves maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in situ. Following this agreement, the German War Graves Commission (Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraberfursorge) made arrangements to transfer the graves of German servicemen and civilian internees of both wars from scattered burial grounds to the new cemetery established at Cannock Chase. The inauguration and dedication of this cemetery, which contains almost 5,000 German and Austrian graves, took place in the presence of Dr. Trepte, the President of Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraberfursorge, on the 10th June 1967. In the centre of the Hall of Honour, resting on a large block of stone, is a bronze sculpture of a fallen warrior, the work of the eminent German sculptor, Professor Hans Wimmer.
