PAL Canoe Escape 2010
eLogic Learning proudly sponsored 42 kids on a canoe adventure down the Hillsborough River in Tampa July 2, 2010. Four hours of paddling five miles down the spring fed river through Oak Hammocks and Cypress knees, five alligators and three turtles later, the kids were excited, tired, and more connected to each other and their environment.
PAL Tampa offers after school and summer programs to inner city youth and relies heavily on charitable contributions to fund educational and life enriching experiences for kids aged six to 15, whom may otherwise not have these experiences. This was the first time PAL organized a canoe trip, and the first time many of the kids ever glided down the river that is a lifeline and geographical mainstay in almost every neighborhood in Tampa.
I didn't think we would ever finish, an 11-year-old girl said still breathing heavy with a paddle in one hand and her other arm around her friend. But we took turns paddling and worked together.
Another girl started the journey terrified of the water and the unknown, I thought I was going to be eaten, but I got used to it. She walked to the edge of the dock as the canoes were being loaded. Can I jump in?
eLogic Learning believes in enriching lives trough training and development in business and in the community.
Hillsborough River Canoe Trip - Live The Odyssey
The Hillsborough River flows 54 miles from its head waters in the Green Swamp to its mouth in Hillsborough Bay, a portion of Tampa Bay, Florida's largest open-water estuary. The Hillsborough has an estimated drainage area of 675 square miles. The watershed extends over parts of three counties, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Polk. From nearly pristine conditions, the river winds its way to Tampa Bay through rural, suburban, and urban settings. For the most part the Hillsborough is what is known as a dark or black water river. The water is stained reddish-brown by the tannic acid. The acid comes from the decaying leaves and other vegetation in the swamp.

Consisting of 3,950 acres along the Hillsborough River in northwest Hillsborough County, in proximity to the Tampa Bay area makes it a popular destination for those wanting to get back to what Florida used to be. The park's seven miles of nature trails wander through hammocks of live oak, hickory, magnolia, and sabal palm trees.

DAY TRIP // CANOEING AT HILLSBOROUGH RIVER
Watch as we hit Hillsborough River State Park with the fam jam and canoe our way through the river ways. Gators were spotted, branches were dodged, and we only got stuck like five times so I'd call it a pretty successful day. Also, I am by no means a pro-naturer but I will however claim the pro top-knotter title. #canoehair
