Places to see in ( Canterbury - UK )
Canterbury, a cathedral city in southeast England, was a pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages. Ancient walls, originally built by the Romans, encircle its medieval centre with cobbled streets and timber-framed houses. Canterbury Cathedral, founded 597 A.D., is the headquarters of the Church of England and Anglican Communion, incorporating Gothic and Romanesque elements in its stone carvings and stained-glass windows.
Canterbury is a historic English cathedral city and UNESCO World Heritage Site, which lies at the heart of the City of Canterbury, a local government district of Kent, England. Canterbury lies on the River Stour.
The Archbishop of Canterbury is the primate of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion owing to the importance of St Augustine, who served as the apostle to the pagan Kingdom of Kent around the turn of the 7th century. The city's cathedral became a major focus of pilgrimage following the 1170 martyrdom of Thomas Becket, although it had already been a well-trodden pilgrim destination since the murder of St Alphege by the men of King Canute in 1012. A journey of pilgrims to Becket's shrine served as the frame for Geoffrey Chaucer's 14th century classic The Canterbury Tales.
Canterbury is a popular tourist destination: consistently one of the most-visited cities in the United Kingdom, the city's economy is heavily reliant upon tourism. The city has been occupied since Paleolithic times and served as the capital of the Celtic Cantiaci and Jute Kingdom of Kent. Many historical structures fill the area, including a city wall founded in Roman times and rebuilt in the 14th century, the ruins of St Augustine's Abbey and a Norman castle, and the oldest extant school in the world, the King's School. Modern additions include the Marlowe Theatre and the St Lawrence Ground, home of the Kent County Cricket Club. There is also a substantial student population, brought about by the presence of the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University, the University for the Creative Arts, and the Girne American University Canterbury campus. Canterbury remains, however, a small city in terms of geographical size and population, when compared with other British cities.

Canterbury City Wall
Canterbury's defensive walls have loomed large in the city's history for nearly two millennia. By the third century, Canterbury was already known as Durovernum Cantiacorum, meaning the walled town of the tribe of the Cantiaci by an alder marsh. The 2.7km wall was then newly built, but it deterred invaders for another 700 years at least, with stories still told of Danish Vikings being thrown from the battlements. Today, much of it remains, including long stretches of wall, gatehouses and wall towers.

Canterbury - Tour to Cathedral of Canterbury
Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, Kent, is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in England. It forms part of a World Heritage Site. It is the cathedral of the Archbishop of Canterbury, currently Justin Welby, leader of the Church of England and symbolic leader of the worldwide Anglican Communion; the archbishop, being suitably occupied with national and international matters, delegates the most of his functions as diocesan bishop to the Bishop suffragan of Dover, currently Trevor Willmott. Its formal title is the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ at Canterbury.
Founded in 597, the cathedral was completely rebuilt from 1070 to 1077. The east end was greatly enlarged at the beginning of the twelfth century, and largely rebuilt in the Gothic style following a fire in 1174, with significant eastward extensions to accommodate the flow of pilgrims visiting the shrine of Thomas Becket, the archbishop who was murdered in the cathedral in 1170. The Norman nave and transepts survived until the late fourteenth century, when they were demolished to make way for the present structures.

The Canterbury Tour 1920 Part 1
Shot from the back of a truck, this film takes the viewer from one end of 1920 Canterbury to the other: a procession of shops along the old medieval streets of the town as horse drawn carts mix with cyclists and even a handful of motorcars.

Dane Jon in Canterbury After Canterbury Castle Closure
I take a stroll through the Dane Jon in Canterbury after finding out that Canterbury Castle has closed because it is falling down.
I really hope that they can save the Canterbury Castle and re-open it to the public ASAP. It has great potential for being an ideal spot for producing awesome time lapses using my DJI Osmo Mobile 2.
I also walk along the Canterbury City wall and do a time lapse of Rheims Way, which is the ring road around Canterbury city centre.
