Difference between Trebbiano Toscano e Trebbiano Spoletino
Francesco Mariani from Raina Winery tells us about the difference between Trebbiano Toscano and Trebbiano Spoletino
night and day only the name is similar they are not similar at all the grapes are different, the way they look like The Trebbiano Toscano is a big grape with a thin skin it ripens quite early and from an aromatic point of view it is almost a neutral grape, with no strong aromas while Trebbiano Spoletino has a really tightened grape a really thick skin rich in the aromas and ripens late so the opposite of the Toscano I prefer to drink the Toscano when I'm looking for a simple wine If I'm in a rush and I have some bread and salami I open a bottle of Toscano while at dinner or for important meals I open the Spoletino this is more likable from an aromatic point of view but even the Toscano, despite its reputation, can give you wines that are really good. what Trebbiano Abruzzese (another grape variety) can give to you a Toscano cannot because the Toscano does not have big aromas, so the wine is like naked sometimes can give you wines really austere but interesting because if you make it without adding fake or artificial aromas and if you don't blend it with other grape varieties... they can be wines that are really expressive shall we have a bruschetta?
