City Walks: Billings, Montana Virtual 360 Treadmill Walking Tour
We were in spending time in Billings on our way home and decided to spend a couple days exploring. There's so much more to see and do than we expected. Great breweries and restaurants, museums and indoor activities as well as trails and shopping. Tons of fun. I was able to take a morning and do a walk downtown. I think this will be the last of my 360 walking videos. They are just too much work for the results. Hope thats ok and I apologize to those who are using the goggles and vr headsets. Maybe as the technology improves I'll be able to get back to them. Thanks!
Billings, Montana Info - Pulled from Wikipedi -
Billings is located in the south-central portion of the state and is the seat of Yellowstone County, which had a 2017 population of 158,980. The 2017 Census estimates put the Billings population at 109,642, making it the only city in Montana with over 100,000 people. The city is experiencing rapid growth and a strong economy; it has had and is continuing to have the largest growth of any city in Montana. Parts of the metro area are seeing hyper growth. From 2000 to 2010 Lockwood, an eastern suburb of the city, saw growth of 57.8%, the largest growth rate of any community in Montana. Billings has avoided the economic downturn that affected most of the nation 2008–2012 as well as avoiding the housing bust. With the Bakken oil development in eastern Montana and western North Dakota, the largest oil discovery in U.S. history, as well as the Heath shale oil discovery just north of Billings, the city's growth rate stayed high during the shale oil boom. Although the city is still growing, the rate of increase has diminished markedly with oil price declines in recent years.
Billings was nicknamed the Magic City because of its rapid growth from its founding as a railroad town in March 1882. The city is named for Frederick H. Billings, a former president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. With one of the largest trade areas in the United States, Billings is the trade and distribution center for much of Montana east of the Continental Divide, Northern Wyoming, and western portions of North Dakota and South Dakota. Billings is also the retail destination for much of the same area. With more hotel accommodations than any area within a five-state region, the city hosts a variety of conventions, concerts, sporting events, and other rallies.
Area attractions include Pompey's Pillar, Pictograph Cave, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Zoo Montana, and Yellowstone Art Museum. Within 100 miles are Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Red Lodge Mountain Resort, and the Beartooth Highway, which links Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park.
Billings is the largest city in the U.S. state of Montana, and the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area with a population of 170,498. It has a trade area of over half a million people.

Couple Climb In the White Mountains Beautiful Views
- For those who doubt my facts: 2015 study on rehydrating with beer:
Our Trek:
Reaching a height of 2000 feet, Pleasent Mountain rises abruptly from the west side of Moose Pond near Bridgton Maine. The 112-year old Camp Winona is perfectly situated on Moose Pond, which in reality is a medium-sized lake. Tori and I arrived at camp Winona a day early for the Maine Canoe Symposium which I'd been asked to present at and instruct several workshops at.
When asking some locals about hiking opportunities in the area, we came up with Ledges Trail and Bald Peak Trail which met at the summit of Pleasant Mountain and saw that both trails could be taken to form a perfect loop for a day hike of low-end, intermediate difficulty. Better still, we would get a beautiful view of the snow-covered, Mt Washington from the tip. It wasn't long into our climb before the views got good and the weather was perfect! It took us under an hour to reach the summit where we hung out for a bit, ate some food and enjoyed a beer.
The descent down Bald Peak Trail was beautiful. It was quite steep at times though, but not nearly as steep as our ascent up Ledges Trail. It was longer however and did not provide quite as many views. None the less, there were some beautiful open areas as well as a gorgeous canyon and crystal clear creek. It wasn't too long before we were back at the Jeep. The rental car place offered me an upgrade for 10$ a day and I was an easy sale. Turns out, the convertible hard top Jeep Wrangler is about the coolest vehicle you can drive in the state of Maine. Tori and I took the top off and drove back to camp Winona feeling about as free as a couple of birds. We missed our 11-month old son Wesley but we knew he was in good hands with family back home and we guiltily enjoyed our little baby-free adventure.

Nature getaway in black hills sd
The Blacks Hills of South Dakota are known mostly for Mount Rushmore, but there is so much more that you can do. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a week long camping trip, there is something for everyone. Nature hikes are a great way to spend an afternoon without spending money. They can also be fun for the whole family, but pick the difficulty of trails accordingly or plan to get your kiddos feet wet if hiking along a river.

Montana man posts bloody Facebook video following grizzly bear attack
ENNIS, Montana — A Montana man mauled by a grizzly bear not once, but twice(!) last week, posted gruesome footage of his injuries immediately after the attack in a video that has gone viral.
EastIdahoNews.com has not been able to independently verify the man’s account, but the photos and video provide compelling evidence for his story.
Todd Orr, 50, of Bozeman, set out for a morning hike Saturday and, according to a post on his Facebook page, “hollered out ‘hey bear’ about every 30 seconds so as to not surprise any bears along the trail.”
Orr said about three miles in, a mother grizzly bear with cubs saw him and charged from about 80 feet away. He fired bear spray in the animal’s face as it approached, but it failed to stop the bear.
“I went to my face in the dirt and wrapped my arms around the back of my neck for protection. She was on top of me biting my arms, shoulders and backpack,” Orr wrote. “The force of each bite was like a sledge hammer with teeth. She would stop for a few seconds and then bite again. Over and over. After a couple minutes, but what seemed an eternity, she disappeared.”
