Driving Downtown - Ottawa East, Canada - Episode 1.
Starting point:
Ottawa map:
Ottawa has East, West, South, North and center town. Most big high tech companies locate in West of Ottawa. East of Ottawa is cheaper to live compared to West. East of Ottawa more French speaking and in the West. Canada is official bilingualism and you can practice your French or English as you wish. Cities in North like Quebec is more French speaking and cities in the south like Toronto is more English speaking. Parler en Francais no problem here. Ottawa is Canada's capital.
Ottawa (/ˈɒtəwə/ (About this soundlisten), /-wɑː/; French pronunciation: [ɔtawa]) is the capital city of Canada. It stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of southern Ontario. Ottawa borders Gatineau, Quebec; the two form the core of the Ottawa–Gatineau census metropolitan area (CMA) and the National Capital Region (NCR).[12] As of 2016, Ottawa had a city population of 964,743 and a metropolitan population of 1,323,783 making it the fourth-largest city and the fifth-largest CMA in Canada.
Founded in 1826 as Bytown, and incorporated as Ottawa in 1855, the city has evolved into the political centre of Canada. Its original boundaries were expanded through numerous annexations and were ultimately replaced by a new city incorporation and amalgamation in 2001 which significantly increased its land area. The city name Ottawa was chosen in reference to the Ottawa River, the name of which is derived from the Algonquin Odawa, meaning to trade.[13]
Ottawa has the most educated population among Canadian cities[14] and is home to a number of post-secondary, research, and cultural institutions, including the National Arts Centre, the National Gallery, and numerous national museums. Ottawa has the highest standard of living in the nation and low unemployment.
Driving around Ottawa, Ontario - Canada
Ottawa is on the south bank of the Ottawa River and contains the mouths of the Rideau River and Rideau Canal. The older part of the city (including what remains of Bytown) is known as Lower Town, and occupies an area between the canal and the rivers. Across the canal to the west lies Centretown and Downtown Ottawa, which is the city's financial and commercial hub and home to the Parliament of Canada and numerous federal government department headquarters, notably the Privy Council Office. On 29 June 2007, the Rideau Canal, which stretches 202 km (126 mi) to Kingston, Fort Henry and four Martello towers in the Kingston area, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Ottawa is the capital of Canada and is part of the province of Ontario. It is south of the Ottawa River. In 2004, there were about 808,391 people in the city. The region has about 1,146,790 people. The mayor of the city today (since December 2010) is Jim Watson. Ottawa is in the Ottawa Valley on the border with the province of Quebec. Ottawa is the fourth largest city in Canada.
When people talk about Ottawa, they are sometimes using the name as an eponym meaning the highest government in Canada, and not its local government or the city.
The cities of Ottawa, Kanata, Nepean, Gloucester and Vanier and the villages of Manotick and Rockcliffe Park joined in the year 2000 to form the new city of Ottawa. Ottawa also includes Orléans, which joined at that same time.
The city began with the name Bytown and became the city of Ottawa in 1855. The Rideau Canal ends in Ottawa.
Ottawa has many museums, many buildings for the government of Canada and many parks. There is a market area downtown.
There are many festivals during the year including Winterlude in February, The Tulip Festival in May, and BluesFest in the summer. There is also a large celebration on July 1st for Canada Day.
The Ottawa Senators play ice hockey in an arena called The Canadian Tire Centre.

In this video I want to share with you the highlights of my trip to Ottawa, Ontario. Ottawa is the capital city of Canada and a beautiful place to visit, especially if you can check it out during the warmer summer months.
There are a ton of different things to do in Ottawa and plenty of ways to occupy your time.
You can explore the local Byward Market for a bite to eat, admire incredible art at the national Gallery of Canada, or head down to the water and cycle on the Rideau Canal for a more natural experience in the Heart of the City.
During my visits I spent three days in Ottawa and despite the heat I had a great time exploring. Public transportation is easily accessible and there's a widespread bike-sharing system that you can use to get anywhere you want.
Ottawa is a wonderful place to visit if you ever get the chance. It's truly one of Ontario's hidden gems as it's so often overlooked by many of Canada's other cities.
The popular landmarks in this video include:
- The Rideau Canal
- Parliament Hill
- Chateau Laurier
- Rideau Hall
- The Byward Market
..and a lot more of the beautiful city of Ottawa!

Ottawa (/ˈɒtəwə/ (About this soundlisten), /ˈɒtəwɑː/; French pronunciation: [ɔtawa]) is the capital city of Canada. It stands on the south bank of the Ottawa River in the eastern portion of southern Ontario. The Thousand Islands International Bridge (French: Pont des Mille-îles) is an American-maintained international bridge system over the Saint Lawrence River connecting northern New York in the United States with southeastern Ontario in Canada. Constructed in 1937, with additions in 1959, the bridges span the Canada–US border in the middle of the Thousand Islands region. All bridges in the system carry two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, with pedestrian sidewalks.
Thousand Islands International Bridge system is a series of five bridges[3] that span parts of the St. Lawrence River, ultimately connecting both banks. From south to north:
American mainland to Wellesley Island (main span[1])
Wellesley Island to Hill Island (international crossing)
Hill Island to Constance Island
Constance Island to Georgina Island
Georgina Island to Canadian mainland
The southern end of the bridge connects with Interstate 81 and the northern end of the bridge connects to Highway 401 via Highway 137. There is also an interchange with the Thousand Islands Parkway on the Ontario side.
The actual international border bridge crossing is a set of two parallel 90 ft (27 m) long bridges between Wellesley Island in the United States and Hill Island in Canada.
The Thousand Islands Border Crossing connects the towns of Alexandria Bay, New York and Ivy Lea, Ontario at the Thousand Islands Bridge.
The crossing is the westernmost of the three on the St. Lawrence River and is very busy, with up to two hours of waits during the summer.[8] The US border station of Alexandria Bay has sometimes been called Thousand Islands, and the Canada border station of Lansdowne has sometimes been called Gananoque, named for the nearby town where international ferry service has historically (and continues to be) provided. These border stations are also responsible for inspecting vessel traffic between the two countries. The US has seasonal vessel inspection stations on Heart Island and at Cape Vincent, NY, and Canada has seasonal vessel inspection stations at Rockport, Ontario and Gananoque, Ontario, and both Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will travel to selected ports and marinas to conduct inspections upon request.
