Places to see in ( St Just - UK )
St Just is a town and civil parish in the Penwith district of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It lies along the B3306 road which connects St Ives to the A30 road. The parish encompasses the town of St Just and the nearby settlements of Trewellard, Pendeen and Kelynack: it is bounded by the parishes of Morvah to the north-east, Sancreed and Madron to the east, St Buryan and Sennen to the south and by the sea in the west.
The town of St Just is the most westerly town in mainland Britain and is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) west of Penzance along the A3071. St Just parish, which includes Pendeen and the surrounding area. St Just lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park. St Just is one of only two towns included within the Cornwall AONB.
The identity of Saint Just is not known. Cornwall's long resistance to the edicts of Canterbury and Rome makes it most unlikely that the saint was Archbishop Justus of Canterbury, as some sources claim.[citation needed] Another possibility is the 6th- or 7th-century Saint Iestyn, said to be the son of a ruler of Dumnonia.
Among the prehistoric antiquities nearby is Ballowall Barrow, a chambered tomb. St Just is one of the most ancient mining districts in Cornwall, and remains of ancient pre-industrial and more modern mining activity have had a considerable impact on the nearby landscape.
The parish church of St Just is a fine 15th-century building. In 1336 the church was rebuilt and dedicated by John Grandisson, Bishop of Exeter; however only the chancel of this church survives and the nave and aisles are 15th-century in date. There are two Methodist chapels. St Just is the home of Cape Cornwall School which also serves Sennen, Sancreed, Pendeen, St Buryan and other places in the district.
St Just is home to the popular Lafrowda festival a seven-day community and arts celebration usually held in Mid July. A more ancient celebration associated with the town is St Just Feast which is held every year to celebrate the dedication of the parish church in 13 July 1336. Feast celebrations were moved to the Sunday nearest to All Saints' Day in 1536 following an Act of Henry VIII which means it usually take place at the end of October / beginning of November. Feast itself is a two-day event with a church service and civic procession being held on Feast Sunday and a larger scale popular celebration being held on Feast Monday (which includes a meeting of the Western Hunt). A description of St Just Feast
St Just also has a 'Plen an Gwarry' (Cornish for playing place), locally pronounced 'Plain an Gwarry'. These sites were used historically for open-air performance, entertainment and instruction. St Just's Plen an Gwarry occasionally hosts productions of the Cornish Ordinalia mystery plays. St Just has a healthy artistic scene, including the painter Kurt Jackson who has made several television appearances. Contemporary singer and comedian Jethro from nearby St Buryan played for St Just Rugby Club and has recorded a song entitled St Just.

St Just-in-Penwith, Cornwall
St Just-in-Penwith is a small town in West Cornwall. It is the smallest town in Cornwall, the first and last town on mainland Britain, and is the furthest town in the UK from a motorway. This small town is no bigger than a village however, at one time, this town with barely any shops was one of Britain's most important towns. St Just-In-Penwith was one of the centres of mining. Many mines are near St Just including Cape Cornwall Mine, Wheal Castle, Wheal Owles and Botallack Mine. Many of the terraces in St Just are built in long rows one after another. These are miners terraces and were built to accommodate the miners. St Just is also in an area of Cornwall well known for its ancient sites. In side the parish church is the The Selus Stone with an ancient cross from nearby St Helen's Oratory behind it. Just outside the town is Ballowal Barrow (or Carn Gloose) which is a large ancient burial chamber. Tom Thumb Rock, a rock used for sacrifices at the sunset of St Just's Feast Day, sits just outside the town.
St Just-In-Penwith has been used in the German TV Series 'Rosamunde Pilcher' as well as the 1970's version of Poldark.
St Just-In-Penwith should not be confused with St Just-In-Roseland which is on the Roseland Peninsula near St Mawes.
B3306 to St Just and Cape Cornwall
The coast road west from St Ives is a good one, even if tour buses occasionally get in the way. Cape Cornwall, too, is worth a visit.

Wonderful, wintery stroll around blustery Cape Cornwall, St Just, Cornwall
In our video we visit Cape Cornwall, nr St Just-in-Penwith after a storm has passed through. We wanted to blow away the cobwebs after work and find out if the sea still had a swell. We also wanted to see if it is a great but safe storm watching spot.
At Cape Cornwall there is a National Trust car park near the cove giving you a bird's eye view to Brisons, the rocks about quarter of a mile off Cape Cornwall. Watch as the rays of light dance on the churning seas below, as they crash into the rocks and cliffside.

Several Views of areas of Cape Cornwall,St.Just,Cot Valley. It was a good sunny day for a lot of walking. The weather has been kind of dry so the heather was not as plentiful and colourful as it normally is.The resolution is a bit foggy but still pretty good. The area toward the end of the video is a place I only fairly recently discovered-quite beautiful cove with a very horizontal rock that looks like pillar. I was told that when the tide is out one can walk on the beach to an area called Kennegie which is a bit further on and continue on a footpath and get some great views from the beach.

Epic Cornwall Wild camping Ballowall Barrow Cape Cornwall St Just Jack wolfskin gossamer tent SWCP
Last night i wild camped by the big waves of Maen dower. I walked along the South west coast path until Porth Nanven where i walked up valley for a bit from the coast path then headed back to Porth Nanven and back on the coast path. I had a look around Ballowall Barrow which i have been to a fair few times. After that i headed to Cape Cornwall still on the coast path. At Cape Cornwall i had a look around St Helen’s Oratory which i have been to many times before still i not video it before. After that it was a walk to St just to restock on food however the co op supermarket at the time was being made bigger the irony was because this is was smaller while they was building the add on. So not much choice in ST just food wise. I did get fish and chips which was fantastic only £5 and tasted great. Also got a pasty which was also fantastic. I walked though the mediæval amphitheatre in St just back towards the Library where i charged up my gear. Then i headed back to the coast path where i camped in a old quarry under Kenidjack Cliff Castle that night was 50mph gusts.
Ballowall Barrow is a prehistoric Neolithic to the Bronze Age funerary cairn (chambered tomb) The construction of the site is unique in consisting of a combination of Neolithic and Bronze age funerary
rituals.
Cape Cornwall Until the first Ordnance Survey, 200 years ago, Cape Cornwall was believed to be the most westerly point in Cornwall. The name Cape Cornwall appeared first on a maritime chart around the year 1600. The original Cornish name, Kilgodh Ust, has fallen out of use
St Helen’s Oratory - which date back as far as Roman times according to one observer, but i doubt very much. An ancient cross was discovered on the site but was sadly lost. The current cross on the chapel is one that was found nearby so it is said.
St just mediæval amphitheatre. is a large circular enclosure retained by a 2 metre high dry stone wall, with two entrances cut into the north and south-east sides. Despite the fact that it almost disappeared in the 19th century, St Just’s plain-an-gwarry survives today as a good example of a rare and distinctively Cornish monument
Kenidjack Castle is a multivallate hillfort .Two sets of triple ramparts with outer ditches have been built on the north east and south west sides. The northern ramparts are the best preserved and show the remains of stone revetting, with the inner one almost wholly built of stone. The outermost rampart of the southern set has been lost through erosion and landslip.

SO UNEXPECTED!! Best of Cornwall UK | Lands End & Minack Theatre | England Vlog
Minack Theatre and Lands End are insane! This really is the best of Cornwall and shows off the UK and England as a travel... ⬇ Click 'Show More' ✈ Learn to travel full-time:
Cornwall has quickly become our favourite spot in England, possibly even the UK at this point considering we haven't travel that far into it. In this particular vlog we got to discover Minack Theatre and Lands End and were just blown away (literally actually) all day long!
Minack Theatre has a fascinating story about how it came to be. We picked up a lot of the info from our Rabbies driver, Dean, as well as the musuem-ish on sight next to the Minack Theater. It really does need to be seend to be believed because its not something we expected to see in the UK.
Just around the road is Lands End, a very famous spot in the UK and about as far on the island of England as you can possibly go. The wind here was intense but the lookout was beautiful - the water below was clear, and the views are worth the travel into Cornwall to see.
This is the Bnb/Guesthouse we stayed in, the host was SO lovely!

Epic Cornwall Wild camping Cape Cornwall St Just Penzance YHA Bad weather 50mph gusts on the coast.
I camped in a old quarry under Kenidjack Cliff Castle that night was 50mph gusts. Today i went back into St just to get the First Kernow bis into Penzance buses in Cornwall are not cheap but i am sure they use to be. In Penzance i went to the Library to charge my gear up but hey you say you was going stay at the YHA penzance but i say you can not check into 1700 which made it pointless stopping there but i only was made clear about that after i had paid online. I could have and would have camped on the moors as the wind was going to die down later and i charge my gear up at the Library anyhow. Since i paid i stopped the night there least i got a shower and it was warm but was more of a dribble of water than a power shower. The hostel was clean and kitchen. It was only £10 for a night camping.

เที่ยว Cornwall Cape Cornwall
เที่ยวดอนวอล ตอนเคปฟ์คอนวอลCape Cornwall (Cornish: Kilgoodh Ust, meaning goose back of St Just) is a small headland in West Cornwall, UK. It is four miles north of Land's End near the town of St Just.A cape is the point of land where two bodies of water meet. Until the first Ordnance Survey, 200 years
ago, Cape Cornwall was believed to be the most westerly point in Cornwall.
Cape Cornwall
Cape Cornwall is a cape just outside the town of St Just-in-Penwith in West Cornwall. It is one of only two capes on the British Isles, the other being Cape Wrath in the Scottish Highlands. The cape is the original Land's End and tourists would visit the cape to see the end of Britain. The cape has a beach, Priest's Cove, which is a rocky beach with its own Tidal Swimming Pool however there was another beach here, which was larger and had sand, at the other side of the cape. However, this beach was completely washed away in storms in the early 20th century.
Cape Cornwall was interestingly purchased by the food company 'Heinz' in 1987. They then presented it to the National Trust who manage it. On top of the cape is a chimney which is part of Cape Cornwall Mine, this is now called the Heinz Monument due to the purchase. Cape Cornwall Mine operated between 1838 and 1883. It has since been destroyed however the chimney has been left for navigation purposes. It is now a landmark in this area of Cornwall.
At the bottom of the cape is St Helen's Oratory, a small Celtic oratory. On top is an ancient cross however this is not the original. The original was moved in the 19th century and was taken to the Vicarage Garden at St Just-in-Penwith. It was then, it is said, thrown down the well. The original cross is now on display in St Just-in-Penwith church and another cross, also Celtic, has been put on to the oratory.
Cape Cornwall is at the start of The Tin Coast.
