I made this trip in early October, 2016. Video shot with a Brinno TLC-200 Pro time-lapse camera, mounted on my roof with a homemade magnetic case. I travel with two Brinno cameras - one facing forward, the other in reverse. Sometimes the reverse camera captures better video (fewer raindrops and bugs hit the rear-view lens).

Canada - Bay of Fundy Tides
Time lapse video of the extreme tides at the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia Canada. These tides are possibly the highest and most variable in the world leaving boats sitting on dry land at their low tide.
Bay of Fundy Tide time-lapse, Cape Enrage, Barn Marsh Beach,
Has Brian lost his mind? Too much time watching the giant tides of Fundy? It's true that trying to fully comprehend the incredible magnitude of the Bay of Fundy tide is enough to make anyone feel rather small and insignificant, or at least, awe stricken. Or is he just having fun?
September 18th, 2011 was an extraordinary day at Cape Enrage, New Brunswick. Imagine a day without enough wind to keep a kite up. And whoever heard of it being warm at Cape Enrage? Warm and no wind? Are you sure we're talking about Cape Enrage? It's no wonder Brian was acting a bit playful.
Four time-lapse cameras were used in the making of this video, along with a regular video camera to add some details.
Barn Marsh Beach is the rocky beach just before the last uphill section of the road to the Cape Enrage lighthouse. Off route 915 in Albert County, southern New Brunswick, on the Bay of Fundy. The rocky headland in the background is called Inner Head. Barn Marsh Beach is well known for the rounded flat rocks that make up the beach. However, at low tide a surprise is revealed. A beautiful expanse of flat smooth sand starts abruptly at the bottom of the rocky slope. The transition is dramatic. The flat sandy part is quickly covered by the rising tide and most of the 6 hours of the rising tide is spend gradually engulfing the sloped rocky section.

Bay of Fundy Tides Timelapse Video
Bay of Fundy is famous for its tides. The tides here are largest in size. In some areas, it can be as high as 45 ft !

The bay is in the north east end of the Gulf of Maine between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia - two provinces of Canada. The tides go so high here due to the funnel shape of the bay. The wide mouth and narrow end creates huge tidal pressures responsible for so large tidal waves.

Waterside Beach Time-Lapse, Bay of Fundy, NB
Four-camera time-lapse sequence of the Bay of Fundy tide rising at Waterside Beach, New Brunswick, Canada, September 2, 2011. The 6:13 hour tide has been compressed into 2:21 minutes.
Located on the Bay of Fundy scenic route 915 in southern New Brunswick, Waterside Beach is certainly Albert County's most magnificent expanse of sandy beach (nearly 2 km long) and yet it remains somewhat unknown by tourists because there is no large commercial interest promoting in. The main part of the beach is separated from the road by a beautiful salt marsh area, well known to birdwatchers, while the other side is hidden from view (from the road) by red sandstone cliffs.
My vantage point was at the beginning of the cliffs where you can get a wonderful panoramic view of the beach. However, this 180° view also presented a challenge since I could not show it all in a single view and I certainly didn't want to leave any of it out. I ended up using 4 time-lapse cameras to take in the entire view and also added some highlights with a video camera.
When I started at low tide at 9:36AM, the view of the beach to the east (left) was backlit, while the beach view west (right) was more front lit. By the time high tide arrived at 3:50PM the lighting had reversed. The colour looked quite different from each view, depending on the angle of the sun, and it turned out to be quite a challenge to get the different views to look more similar in colour. I hope you enjoy seeing all of the different aspects of the beach in my short video.

Cape Enrage Fossil Hunt
Cape Enrage, on the Bay of Fundy, is a fossil beach totally worth visiting. For thrill-seekers there is a zipline and you can rappel down the cliff face.
On the day of our visit Cape Enrage was definitely enraged with very strong winds and big waves.
We paired our visit with Waterside Winery's sparkling rhubarb wine!
Bay of Fundy Time-lapse, Upper Salmon River Estuary
Bay of Fundy tide flooding the Upper Salmon River estuary and salt marsh.
This view shows the Upper Salmon River estuary at the Alma entrance to Fundy National Park. Fundy National Park is on the left and the Village of Alma is on the right. Although the Upper Salmon River is flooded by the Bay of Fundy tides it is only the upper 2 (of 6) hours of the tide that affects this part of the river.
This time-lapse sequence was shot as regular video and then sped up 20,000%.

Tidal Art Aug 6 time-lapse Bay of Fundy
Time-lapse sequence of Tidal Art event, Aug 6, 2011, plus time-lapse of the advancing tide on Alma Beach, Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, Canada.
This is my most ambitious time-lapse project to date. It is actually two separate, but related, time-lapse sequences put together. Plus, it was photographed with 3 different time-lapse cameras at once, as well as with regular video and stills. The three different time-lapse vantage points allowed me to switch views if one became blocked or to show alternate aspects of the event. The super-wide views are from the GoPro camera. The high stepladder views were made with my iPod. All the participants were model released allowing me to add some close-up details and a group photo. Then I made a time-lapse of the advancing tide until it covered the sculptures, erasing them for all time.
Tidal Art is a program in Fundy National Park led by artist, Karin Bach, in which children and their families create Ephemeral Art (short-lived) on Alma Beach. They make sculptures using seaweed, seashells and different coloured rocks found on the beach. When the tide comes in these sculptures will be washed away leaving no trace of their artwork. Each week the sculptures are different. The designs are related to the shore, in this case a fish called a sculpin. Another sculpture is made showing the current phase of the moon. Karin enjoys introducing people to ephemeral art in which the joy of creating and living in the moment are paramount.
