Every morning tourists are waiting with cameras until kangaroos come to the beach to be fed. Not really natural, but with beautiful images of kangaroos at sunrise as reward. A proud mother even shows a baby in her pouch.

Meet the beach-loving kangaroos at Cape Hillsborough National Park, Mackay - The Big Bus
Welcome to The Big Bus tour and travel guide's YouTube channel.
In this short video, we take you to Cape Hillsborough National Park north of Mackay in Queensland to meet the famous kangaroos and wallabies that gather on the beach at dawn. These agile wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos have featured in big budget tourism campaigns and a Qantas onboard safety video. Drawn to the beach to feed on mangrove seed pods washed up on the shoreline, the rock star roos draw quite a crowd and are perfectly positioned for a photo with the sun rising in the background.
While anyone can go down onto the beach, participants on Mackay Tourism’s Sunrise with the Wallabies Tour get a headset and running commentary from host Ranger Sam. If you’re at a loose end afterwards, there are some wonderful walks to do in the area.

I love hiking and especially like it when it's a hot day, near the ocean and you could take a swim, if you remember to pack the bathers.
Yep I forgot the bathers, what a dill. Who drives all the way to a beautiful beach on a steaming hot day and forgets bathers?
ME!
Cape Hillsborough is a gorgeous part of Queensland with a caravan park surrounded by nature, hills and beach.
This hike was the Andrews Point Trail a 5.2km hike suitable for beginners wanting to get out into nature at the Cape Hillsborough National Park.
Only 50 minutes drive from Mackay , Queensland along picturesque roads which along the way there are so many places to stop, you could take all day. Some links I will add below.
Andrews Point Track takes around 2 hours so take some water although as there is a caravan park they do have a small shop you can purchase drinks and snacks. There is also toilet facilities and BBQ area with play equipment for the kids.
Along the way there are a few look outs and if the tide is on the way out you can walk back along the beach to the caravan park, perhaps go for a swim if you remember your bathers.
Take a BBQ picnic lunch and sit in the undercover areas provided to have your lunch.
On the way back into town stop at the Organic and Natural store for some fruit and vege or a coconut Ice cream.
As you passing through The Leap stop at the local for a coldie.
If you are looking at a great track with awesome views, take the day to visit the Cape Hillsborough National Park .
