CAPE KRI - RAJA AMPAT, INDONESIA | EPIC DIVE SITES (2019)
Raja Ampat, in Bahasa Indonesia, literally means Four Kings. The story is that the four main islands of Raja Ampat, Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool were ruled by four different kings. However, there are more than 1,500 small islands in total surrounding the area, making it the best place to find pristine, deserted, white sand beaches.
Raja Ampat is also the epitome of marine biodiversity, with insane sites like Cape Kri breaking the world record for 374 different species of fish in one dive. The extremely rare Oceanic Manta, the largest ray in the world can also be found in several dive sites here. Diving here is extraordinary, with over 200 dive sites in the archipelago alone, excitement and diversity is guaranteed. Raja Ampat is full of surprises, while excruciatingly uncommon, Whale Sharks and Hammerheads have been spotted. Because of the sheer diversity and the untouched nature of the reefs, you never know what you might find.
The corals themselves are a huge draw— aptly described as the rainforests of the oceans, the reefs in Raja Ampat are the finest in the world. When you make your first descent, the medly of colours overwhelms and mesmerizes you. How could something that looks so absolutely calm at the surface be so full of life? Soft corals, hard corals, giant corals which seem too large to be real, corals that seem otherworldly and alien, corals that are green, red, purple or bright pink, corals that dance to the tempo of the currents (and also of course corals that sting and unpleasant things). Silence. There are no sounds underwater to convey the excitement you might feel. Instead you rely on clumsy hand signals to communicate your astonishment to your diving buddies, badly. Raja Ampat truly, houses some of the best dive sites in the world.

Diving in Raja Ampat Indonesia - Cape Kri, Gam Reef & Oceanic Manta Rays | VLOG 98
Escape with me 10 minutes to Cape Kri
Raja Ampat in West Papua has the highest biodiversity and the most colorful reefs on the planet. I took all scenes in this video during my 5 months stay where i worked there in a dive resort as a videographer and dive guide. The coral reefs on the planet are highly endangered. Global warming and pollution has a big impact on the fragile ecosystems. Some scientists estimate all reefs on the planet could disappear in the next centuries. Famous reef systems like in the Maldives are already highly effected by coral bleaching. But also divers have their impact on destruction. Everyone visiting the underwater world should remember, we come as guests to this fantastic eco system.
I hope you enjoy my video from one of the most and remote places in the world and lets hope all together paradises like Raja Ampat will still exist in the future.
Greatest Biodiversity - Cape Kri - Raja Ampat, West Papua - Indonesia
Cape Kri, located on the tip of Kri Island is the Divesite with the largest number of species referenced in one single dive! The up, down and side way currents make it a a dive for experienced divers, but also have created an incredible variety of fauna and flora – all kinds of sharks, many shoals of fish, amazing coral diversity, nudis…everything is there! Besides Blue magic definitely the best Divesite in the best diving area of the world!
Raja Ampat - Cape Kri
The tides in Raja Ampat normally fall from the north and rise from the south except in the Dampier Strait where large amounts of sea water are funnelled from the east on a falling tide and from the west on a rising tide. We were warned about the currents here before we entered the water and the goal was to swim against the current to a converging point where large pelagics are known to assemble. The start of this dive was a real workout and by the time I reached the diverging currents my air supply was down below 2000 psi. The strength of the current made it difficult to shoot anything and, after only a few minutes, I reached the turnaround pressure of 1000 psi and allowed myself to be carried to the exit by the current. This was like filming in fast forward with resplendent reefs rushing by in a cacophony of colour. Near the end of the dive an encounter with a rather large sea snake provided some interesting moments but it was still quite a challenge to film against the current.

Diving Paradise. Discover Cape Kri. Cape Kri in central Raja Ampat is probably the most diverse dive site in the area, if not the world, with more than 280 species of fish counted on a single dive. This dive site, although amazing, can hold some hidden dangers. So if you are planning to dive this site, pay close attention to your dive guide and their briefing. This video was entirely recorded on a GoPro Hero 7 Black. Please excuse the background noise while I'm talking ... the boat generator :(
