Cape Palliser Lighthouse New Zealand
The drive to the lighthouse was a bit scary but well worth the trip. The Fishing town was cool, The seals sun bathing on the beach was cool, and the Lighthouse was also cool with beautiful views.

The sea is washing into the cliffs and eroding them away.
Years ago the batches would have been safe ,but now they are falling into the sea.
Cape Palliser 2017
The cast iron Cape Palliser lighthouse has stood on the cliffs here since 1897 - and she's still shining strong. Climb the 253 steps to see her up close. And spare a thought for the early lighthouse keepers who had to haul oil and kerosene cans up a dirt track before the steps went in!
The Cape is also home to the North Island's largest fur seal colony. If you're here November to January you might just spot some pups. I was here April, and as you can see by the video, young teenage fur pups playing happily in their safe haven

Discovering Wairarapa - Part 1
Mixing house sitting with living full time on the road means we have the best of both worlds. We get to explore areas that we would have previously just driven through, or not even detoured off the main route to spend time there. Wairarapa was no exception.
I'm the first to admit that the Wairarapa is one of the places that I'd previously just driven through to get from point A to B.Sure, I had visited some of the Wairarapa towns on the 'way through' to somewhere else without really researching the area and finding out exactly what there is on offer.
On our radar for this roadie is:
-Palliser Bay
-Lake Ferry/Onoke
-Ngawi Fishing Village
-Cape Palliser Lighthouse
-Fur Seal Colony
-Putangirua Pinnacles

Wairarapa Summer Adventure - Part 1
In December of 2014, Shirena and I left Windy Wellington to do a three day road trip around the Wairarapa region.
On day one we drove over the winding mountain road, crossing The Rimutakas and made our way south to our campsite at Lake Ferry. In the afternoon we followed the coast eastwards to Cape Palliser stopping for a picnic and exploring the crazy colourful bulldozers at Ngawi and the old lighthouse.

If you are visiting New Zealand and looking for things to do in the Greater Wellington region, exploring Lake Ferry, Ngawi and Cape Palliser in the Wairarapa are excellent choices.
A Night At Palliser
On the night of December 15th 2012, I set out from Wellington, New Zealand to the remote coastal area of Cape Palliser on the south eastern tip of the North Island. My goal was to capture the Geminid meteor shower, but unfortunately for me, being so far south on in the Southern Hemisphere, the meteors were few and far between.
But all was not lost as it was a perfectly dark cloudless night and millions of stars were shining above. This video is a collection of the images and time lapse I captured that night.
