tamaki Shrine
Tamaki-Jinja is located near the top of the Tamaki Mountain which is 1076m tall. It had been selected as the UNESCO World Heritage, as part of the Kiisanchi-no-reijo and Sankei-Michi. Starting off from the oldest Cedar tree, Jindaisugi which had been reported to be over 3000 year old, this Shrine is surrounded by the natural monument.
There are another shrine called Tamaishisha if you climb up from the precinct upon the top of the hill. Tamaishisha considered as the original of Tamaki-Jinja Shrine which has no main building only ancient pebble stone left.
Kumano Hayatama Taisha
Kumano Hayatama Taisha (熊野速玉大社) is one of Kumano's three important shrines. It is located in Shingu City on the southeast coast of the Kii Peninsula. Together with the other two shrines, Hongu Taisha and Nachi Taisha, Hayatama Taisha holds an important place in Japanese mythology.
While the buildings were rebuilt recently, Hayatama Taisha has occupied the same spot on the Kumano Riverbank since at least the 12th century. In addition, religious artifacts that date back to the 3rd century are evidence that the area has been a site of worship for much longer. In fact, a Shinto creation myth claims that three kami (Shinto deities) descended to earth on a rock not far from the shrine.
Kumano Nachi Taisha
Kumano Nachi Taisha (熊野那智大社) is one of the three Kumano shrines, situated a few kilometers inland from the coastal hot spring resort of Katsuura. The shrine is part of a large complex of neighboring religious sites that exemplify the fusion of Buddhist and Shinto influences that is particular to the Kumano region. The site also boasts the tallest waterfall in Japan.
Kushimoto
Kushimoto (串本) is located on the southern tip of the Kii Peninsula. The small town and its surroundings feature nice coastal scenery and several mildly interesting museums.
Cape Shionomisaki, just south of Kushimoto's town center, is the southernmost point of Japan's main island Honshu. A shrine and Shionomisaki Lighthouse stand nearby. The lighthouse contains a small museum with exhibits about the building and local history. It is also possible to climb to the top of the lighthouse.

On the mainland, visitors can see a series of rocks (around 40) dot the coastline leading out from the shore towards Oshima Island. It is believed that these rocks, called Hashikui-iwa, (meaning bridge pillar rocks) were created by the famous Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi. It is said he formed the rocks after being challenged by a monster to build a bridge across the sea. Now a national natural treasure, many visitors come to watch the sun rising over this beautiful, mysterious creation.

Trip to Wakayama/Mie12-2010
Yoko and I spent three days in Wakayama and Mie, Dec. 30th to Jan. 1st. We left Nagoya by train to Kii Katsuura Station. From there it was all by tour bus, except for the Turtle Boat to the first hotel.
We stayed at two Urashima Hotels, the first one in Nachi Katsuura-Cho, at the Port of Katsuura. The second one was Urashima Harbor Hotel in Kushimoto. One of them had 5 hotsprings and a couple were in caves with nice ocean views. check out this video:
The tour included Adventure World in Shirahama (its most popular attraction are the baby pandas), Kushimoto Marine Park, Hashikui Rocks and the southern-most place in Shiono-Misaki (Cape Tower), where we had a Tuna burger.
In Kumano we stopped at Nachi Falls and Nachi Taisha Shrine (to go up you have to climb 473 stone steps). Up there we had coffee and cake.
Our last stop before taking the train back to Nagoya was at the natural rock formation called Onigajo (devil's castle) near Kumanoshi Station.

- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
During the last weeks of World War II, warships of the United States Navy, the Royal Navy and the Royal New Zealand Navy bombarded industrial and military facilities in Japan. Most of these bombardments were conducted by battleships and cruisers, and caused heavy damage to several of the targeted factories, as well as nearby civilian areas. A major goal of the attacks was to provoke the Japanese military into committing some of its reserve force of aircraft into battle. However, the Japanese did not attempt to attack the Allied bombardment forces, and none of the involved warships suffered any damage.
The major bombardments began on 14 and 15 July 1945, when US Navy warships attacked the cities of Kamaishi and Muroran. The next attack was made by a joint American and British force against the city of Hitachi during the night of 17/18 July. Groups of cruisers and destroyers subsequently shelled the Nojima Saki area on 18 July, and Shionomisaki on the night of 24/25 July. On 29 July, American and British warships attacked Hamamatsu, and on the night of 30/31 several American destroyers shelled Shimizu. The final bombardment took place on 9 August, when Kamaishi was attacked again by American, British and New Zealand warships. Two US Navy submarines conducted small-scale attacks during June and July 1945; one of the submarines also landed a small raiding party.
The Allied naval bombardments disrupted industrial production in the cities targeted, and convinced many Japanese civilians that the war was lost. Up to 1,739 Japanese were killed in the attacks, and about 1,497 were wounded. The only Allied casualties were 32 Allied prisoners of war killed in the bombardments of Kamaishi.
